i'm glad it worked for you. now go and get your flash on:D

ok just to make sure that the file looks correctly. this is a pic of my renamed amon ra file:

I am laughing so hard at myself right now and I'll tell you why Ocnbrze!!! I have rooted my phone, using your Guide, and I've been flashing away, going back, flashing, reading, flashing, etc. So I'm on to partitioning because, although the bloatware is gone, I've downloaded a crap ton of stuff. I figured that I would use the same guide for partitioning and came to the end of this Guide to see any updates, etc... Sooooo, I'm looking at this screen you posted about Amon Ra and PC36IMG and the FIRST and ONLY thing my eyes can see is a picture of Phil Rivers and the Chargers!!! HAHAHA, although I am woman, I LOVE my Boston Sports and the NE Patriots. This might not strike you as funny but I laughed my rear end off at my distractable self! I also live in the Los Angeles area but I was born and raised near Boston and ALL my family is there! :D

P.S., I wrote a paper regarding Rooting for Dummies... the old fart edition! and mentioned your several "Guides" as a great info and reference. Thanks for taking the time to help others!! ;)

I'm copying and pasting my beta key info using the drop box of the revolution command prompt when it asks for the beta key info, but I keep getting invalid. Is there any way to solve this?

so in all my excitement (intoxication) i must have missed something somewhere if the guide is followed does something back up your stock system? and if so where the heck does it put it the reason I'm asking is i successfully flashed cyanogenmod but i don't really like it thanks in advance

i figured that i will answer you guys in one shot, so here goes:

yes after i posted it i realized i have him in my download folder. i used him for my fantasy football avatar. i am a huge chargers fan and one of the guys in the league is a phillip rivers hater so i used it to raz him a little. lol sorry but i can't stand brady in the pats. but i;m glad you are rooted and about to partition your card. if you have any questions on partitioning please ask away.

i have a 3vo now and had to root with revolutionary and the beta key was a pain in the ass. what i found that worked was to use notepad++. i copied the beta key that was generated on the revolutionary website and then i pasted it on notepad++ then i copied it from notepad++ to the command window for revolutionary. you have to right click on the upper left side of the window and select edit then select paste. i had to to that procedure like 5 times before it worked for some reason.

hope that helps.

just an fyi i would use amon ra 2.3 as a recovery then clockwork mod. it is a much better recovery and there is almost zero issue with it. clockwork mod IMO does not wipe well enough and that can create issues. you can get instructions on how to switch recoveries in the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html.

scudder you so funny. i love the fact that you answer your own questions. i very much appreciate that you post your answers as you find them.

:D

Well, I'll have problems (NOT just mental...with my phone I mean!! :D) and try a few things. Then I get to typing up my issues (again, issue with the PHONE I man) and posting here and then go back to looking. It just happens (kinda often) that right when I quit looking and post a question here the NEXT thing I look at is the answer!! :D

And I share the info and keep the post up to help others in case they are suffering from the same phone issue...OR mental problems!!

Thank you Ocnbrze, very much!!! I try not to ask a lot of noob questions as you guys (Guides) already take enough of your precious time to write instructions for us. I figure that if I don't get it, I'd better not do it till I understand and I read more stuff. Just sayin!

OH, BTW, I just thought I'd mention that in partitioning, my tricky (a.k.a dumb*ss noob) self would move a "Nandroid backup" from the SD card up to, say "empty root folder" cause I was too lazy to put the newest one on my computer. WRONG!!! NOOBS BEWARE, DO NOT EVER DO THIS UNLESS YOU WANT TO CHANGE YOUR UNDERROOS!! My phone did all kinds of pissed off stuff and I had a minor manic episode!!! Haha. Pulled the battery frantically and I was fine. Promptly went back for more reading!!! Needless to say, I have changed my thinking from "Princess-knows-a lot" back to the appropriate "Dumb*ss Noob" status!!

ask away. without you guys, us guides would not have anything to do. and if i can't answer then somebody else will. the AF is the best communtiy on the forums. it has the best people contributing so please never feel like holding back. let it out, we will help you out as much as we can.

so before partitioning you should first make a nandroid backup and then back-up your card onto the computer. in recovery there should be a usb ms toggle that will allow you to hookup your phone to the computer via usb and get access to your card. just copy everything to your computer. once that is done then you can select partition your card. and then follow the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html.

hope that helps. again feel free to ask away.

Ok, I'm asking now cause you said I could!!

I decided on MikG v2.58. I like GB/Sense so I'm trying that. Hope its not to "Tron". Anyway, I usually make a .doc file with a combo of different sites directions, etc. so its all in one place in my doc. I get the difference between a2sd and the app APPS2SD, the app doesn't move all. You mention Darktremor. MikG v2.58 has an a2sd in it. I'm a little confused. My take? 1) I already copied ENTIRE SD card to computer. Check. 2. I'm going to reboot into Amon Ra and select Partition SD card. Then 0 for SWAP, 1024 for Ext2, the rest FAT. Then Upgrade ext2 to ext3. 3. USB toggle and put stuff back on SD, Nandroids, pics, flashable stuff but not apks and data. I'll leave it on computer. 4. Wipe everything, twice! 5. Flash MikG then reboot. I'll check to see what apks it has and deal with my apks accordingly. PLEASE correct any mistakes or omissions! Also, do I need to make any subfolders on SD card for data, cache, apk or will a2sd do that automatically?? Thanks in advance!!

you got the steps down great.

now as far as mikg and dark tremors are concerned, mikg has a2sd built in meaning that you do not have to do anything. when you restore your apps and such they will automatically be moved to the sd card. now if you want your data, and cache moved to the sd card as well then you will need to:
1.get terminal emulator from the market.
2.run t.e. and type su the typea2sd datasd to move data to the sd card
3.typea2sd cachesd to move dalvik cache to the sd card as well.

hope that helps.

For those of you who have gotten stuck at the with the "Waiting for device" on the DOS window, I was having the same problem. What I found was that the sticker on the back of my phone had one digit off from what the serial number was in the DOS window. I plugged the serial number from the DOS window into the beta key generator and it worked just fine.

Hope that helps anybody who was having that problem.

I noticed that too. If your having problems anyone just use the paste method that's in the tut. You can mess it up that way.

Why not 2.59? If you like purple I've got a nice theme for it in the themes/mods section. ;)

SUCCESS, I think. I'm not bricked at least!! :D I know there's a way to look and see if it's partitioned but I forgot how!!

@Nick, I LOVE purple and I will patch up to 2.59 but I already had 2.58 on my card and was so anxious about getting it up, I just used 2.58 for now. PLUS, If I spend much more time messing with my phone (SOLID month, from the time I wake up till I go to bed), and don't start cooking dinner and doing laundry, I might just find myself UN-engaged. He's gettin' pissed!!

Poop happens!!

Haha...I understand, believe me. Let me know if you can't find the theme.

after i flashed mikg i noticed one widget i use a lot out of place, a 4x2 size had more space on left and right of it...thought it was a bad flash so i restored then i tired jus to flash latest sprint ota and it was the same result, widget was smaller than screen size. i restored back and everything was perfect.
? is does flashing mess up screen resolution/sizing. and if so how do i resize.
i follow flashing steps to the letter.

it might depend on the rom and what it uses as far as icons and fonts. so it is more of a rom thing then a flashing thing.

What widget are you talking about? Been on MikG for a long time and haven't noticed anything crazy.

Also did you flash any themes/mods?

And I need to load the stock ROM on my EVO 4g. I have the image in the SD card I go to HBOOT and it starts downloading the IMG, it checks the image, but after it is done it does not ask me to install it, it just goes back to HBOOT and it sits there. Could it be a corrupt image? I am following the instructions on the Rooting for Dummies guide. Any suggestions? Can I do a hard reset? HBOOT is showing S-ON...

I feel your pain and frustration..sorry. All I can offer, advice wise, is do it again. All of it! When you are rooted and boot up holding volume down and power key, it will say Revolutionary in the first line. Also, if you try the steps again and your already rooted, Revolutionary will say your already rooted, do you want to flash CWM? I'm sure Ocnbrze will offer better advice and listen to him, he's the go to guy!!!!

Make sure you have the PC36IMG.zip in the root directory (topmost level and not in any folders) of your SD Card and named correctly. Keep in mind that Windows hides ext. so it's easy to accidentally name the file PC36IMG.zip.zip.

The img file name was correct. The hard reset worked. Problem solved now I can root again...
