Thanks, just to clarify you will only lose root on a reset not a reboot?
Looks like it wasn't as simple as I thought. Well it is, but not.
My guide will not be of any help. At least ROOTING and BACKUP will not. Upon Reboot, you will lose Root using the Hero Root. Knowing how often we reboot our devices, you'd be having to reapply Root way too many times.
You actually download an .apk file to apply the Root with unrevoked method. From reading, it is recommended to use Toast's method to have permanent Root. I owned an Eris, but never Rooted it. So I have no experience with unrevoked or Toast's methods.
Using unrevoked will not Brick your device, or cause any errors of any sort. Not to mention, if you decide to back out, just Reboot.
I say lurk around and sniff out some people who've Rooted their Hero and ask some questions on how they have done it.
