Samsung Galaxy Prevail update?

Hi. Just got an update sent to my phone. Download and Install took about 5 minutes. My phone is running stock - haven't rooted it at all. Not quite sure what was updated? Can someone tell me what was updated? Thanks.

Here are my phone's specs:

Model Number: SPH-M820-BST
Android Version: 2.2.2
Baseband Version: S:M820.07 x.EE14
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
Build Number: Froyo.EE14
Hardware Version: M820.07

Im running stock but rooted. will I be getting this update?

Im guessing since I have already removed all bloatware might not.

Mine is rooted and not updates were found. By basedband and build numbers end in ED14 instead of EE14 that the OP posted. It could be that they are slowly rolling this out. Can someone confirm/give more info.

mine is rooted as well and my numbers end in ED13. I ran update profile and it says it updated, I ran update prl it updated and I ran update android none found.

my kernel number is the same.

Just rooted my phone last night, and this morning got this update. I probably should have said no (but it looked like it would keep pestering), once I did I was on 2.2.2/M820.07x.EE14/FROYO.EE14, and the rooting broke. Will attempt to re-root tonight, but it appears this was a "security" fix - I'd wager to chase after the published rootkit.

Hey I Just update one of my Prevails with OTA and the one click root wont work on EE14 So if your on ED13 stay or you wont be able to root till this one get figured out

Here is the official ota update.zip. Have fun dissecting it cf7ef825e071.update_SPH-M820_ED13ToEE14.zip

update_SPH-M820_ED13ToEE14.zip

[Mod note: the archive has been checked and appears legitimate. AV/malware scans also turned up nothing untoward, but caution is nevertheless urged. Android Forums will accept no responsibility for any bad things that happen.]

Working Fine Here! Jus Rename To update.zip & Runs No Probs.

Sorry for the noob question mine is also rooted wanted to know once I download the update manually where do I move the file and how do I run it? Its already asking for an ota update rather do it manually since there were no issues.
I originally used one click root

I just saw the Update.Zip download link on Facebook for Samsung Galaxy Prevail. I am a confused. Does this update DEFINATELY unroot and/or damage the phone? If it unroots, can you run ONE CLICK ROOT again and fix it afterward? Or, does it brick the phone?

If you have run the ShabbyMod series, I understand that you will not automatically get the update. Does flashing to ShabbyMOD mean that you cannot run these updates? What happens if you do? I see posts about people having their phone lock up and it appears to be a common problem with stock phones. i have not seen that at all, but then I have used shabbymod for most of the time I have had the phone.

What stuff is in this update, anyway? Do I need to ignore all update.zip files in the future since I went the way of the Shabby? So far, I have not seen a downside to the new rom.

once a new root has been figured out (since this update blocks root..) we can then get a new system dump and i can build upon the new image files. if your phone is rooted and you run this tada you just lost root. if you have modified your system (aka deleted bloat) i doubt very much that this will install all the way. if you have shabbymod this wont flash again sorry that you lose out on not haveing root >.> ill try to make it up to you guys ;P

This update addresses an exploit. It looks like the exploit it addresses is rooting the phone to use as a WiFi hub. Stupidly installed before rooting, so I haven't lost anything other than I was planning to root the phone this weekend. Oh well.

I have a question that others will probably want to know as well. Is there a way to stop the annoying update notification that will probably pop up frequently?

Don't sweat it. Lets step back and put this into context. The Prevail is a great phone for the money once you root it and install the Shabbymods. From what I have seen, much better than the stock one i started with. If the Penguin did nothing else, we would all be better off than we were.

If the Wizards can figure this out and root again we are back in business. Maybe figure out some way to be a little more discrete so that it takes them longer to find out and break it again.

Until then, I assume we can continue with Shabbymods if we have not run the update. Unfortunately, there will be a smaller installed base unless the word gets out quick. New phones that are sold will probably update very quickly. Shabby might not want to waste his time on such a small number of devoted users.

But even with all this said, as great as the Prevail is: How long do we all really think we will continue to use it? Boost or somebody else will come out with something that we have got to have and the Prevail will be history. I predict that this will happen by Christmas. Boost has got to find a way to entice us to get off this $50 plan onto something bright and flashy.

So, I say: Big Deal, lets enjoy what we have while it lasts. Tomorrow will change everything. That is what makes it fun.

I hate to ask this but.... I scratched the screen on my Prevail so I was going to purchase a new one today since I can't find any replacement parts.

Will the new update that blocks root automatically take place when I activate the new Prevail? If it will, is it possible to root and install Shabbymod before activation?
