Help Samsung Moment Tethering

Hey Stoney62. You definitely need debugging on to tether your phone. I'm not sure what that first post is going on about, seems to be about mounting your SD card as a USB drive... which works with debugging enabled anyway (as long as you have the drivers installed), so I don't know why they said you have to turn debugging off.

And the second post has you using PdaNet. If you can get it working, that's great, but I have had nothing but trouble with it. Azilink, on the other hand, is free and was very easy for me to get working on both WinXP-32 and Win7-64. Just download the package I posted on page 2 of this thread, and follow the instructions in the readme.

(One thing I did forget in the readme: after you install Azilink to your phone, you need to launch the app and fill in the checkbox to enable the service.)
Just ran into this again after all this time. I tried to install AZlink today, and I'm not sure it is done right. I'd post the log from the cmd screen if I knew how to get it copied, but rightclicking on it after selecting all just unselects everything.

HELP Please?

Oh, you'll have to right click on it and click Mark. Then select the text, then hit enter. That puts the text on your clipboard.
Just needed to read further Thank you.

Azlink turned out to be pretty easy to get working in spite of the lack of coherent instructions. Cheesmo was the best all-in-all.

Give this : PDAnet a try :D

Welcome to the Forums BTW!
Carl C: I tried it on my win 7 system and did not work...I went and installed the software that removes the android drivers but they did not move at all!

So we have the drivers we NEED. I pulled them out of that huge file and zipped them up into a much smaller file easier to download. Samsung Moment USB Drivers
This link is not currently working lickraker

seems like pdanet updated their android software to work with the moment and other new android phone. PdaNet -- Use your Android as a USB Modem

update: keep getting fail to open device. :(

I am not sure what I am doing wrong but PDAnet does not work on my computer, I am going to give the studio software a try... and then keep on reading the most recent posts if that does not work either...

Install this newer version of Samsung's PC Studio. It will add the necessary drivers. You'll also be able to mount the SD card under debug mode, and run that unmentionable software. Lol.

Samsung's Digital World

I'm posting this for cgarym7:

1. Make sure the Moment is not connected to your PC
2. Download and Install New Studio PC from the link above or
Download the stripped drivers from Studio PC a few threads up, and
store in some location on your hard drive.
3. Once the Studio PC installation is done, you can now download (if you haven't already) and install PDANET 1.17 on your laptop. It will stop with a pop up
and a list of instructions for moving forward with the installation.....

4. Now, on your Moment, you'll want to turn on "USB DEBUGGING".
Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB DEBUGGING
5. Connect the Moment to your PC. The PC will now start installing the
necessary drivers. If you've grabbed the stripped drivers, you'll have to
manually point the install to the folder locations.
6. Once all drivers are done. Hit OK on the PDANET installation prompt. The PC will now install PDANET on your Moment.
7. Once done. Go back to the Moment and look for PDANET. Turn it on while it's still connected to the PC. It should now make a connection.

Ok trying these now, see what happens...

Hi all,

I was thinking about purchasing a new Samsung Moment, but was searching to web to see if I could tether. Then I found this forum/thread.

I currently have a Palm Centro, my first non-samsung phone since I first got a cellphone 10 years ago with Sprint. I was hoping to go back to Samsung, I miss it :)

The reason I have stuck with my Centro is because I can use it with laptops for internet. I initially got a "Phone as modem" plan when purchased my Centro. But now with Win7 (64bit), I can't use it for internet on one of my laptops anymore because Palm doesn't have a 64bit usb driver for the cable.

I have unlimited data plan with Sprint. So would really like to continue with a new phone that I can still tether with. It's getting pretty tough with Sprint to do that... especially with Palm.

Thanks for reading through all that above haha. Now my direct question here... Can I use a Samsung Moment with my laptop for internet if doing the various things said in this thread? Does it connect directly with a usb to phone cable?

Use the directions earlier in this thread by cheesmo to get Azlink working. I had it working with dd03 (2.1) but I haven't redone it yet with dd10.

http://androidforums.com/samsung-moment/13577-samsung-moment-tethering-2.html#post134939 You'll have to read a number of the subsequent posts too. Don't give up it works great!!!!

Many of the links there no longer work, but I think I got the package from the megauploads link

I just love the fact that ever since I upgraded to 2.1 tethering works perfect with azilink, no more disconnects and having to reboot the phone :)

I am using the moment here....
not rooted
using pdanet and it works fine....
Computer (Laptop) : Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
AMD Turion 2.4 ghz dualcore 64bit
4 gigs ram

I put together a package with everything that I used to get tethering working with my Moment in XP-32 and Win7-64. I assume it'll work with other versions of Windows, including Vista. There's a readme inside with the basic steps I took to get things working. Let me know if you have problems!

I uploaded it all over since I'm not sure which sites have time limits on free account uploads or whatever.

After reading from the first post to end post, I finally decided to give it a try and got it working using cheesemoo's method on my netbook running win 7 utimate 32 bits (Thank you cheesemoo). Since this was my first time doing tethering, and the readme file was not too detail enough, I had a hard time at first but finally got it to work. Here are some more installation steps for someone new like me to follow (Win 7 32 bit):

For step #3: my Win 7 did not ask for the drivers, and it would say cannot install device or unable to install hardware or something like that. I went to the drivers folder and manually install the drivers by running the setup application to install the samsung modem drivers. Then plug the phone in and win 7 will install the phone and will say device is ready.

For step #6, after installing the openvpn, you need to double click the openvpn icon on your desktop to activate it in order for step #8 to work. I was not able to get step #8 working until I activated openvpn.

Before you do step #7, I think you also need to make sure your usb connection/folder on your phone is mounted.

And last, if you are already on your home or office wireless/Lan network, you need to turn off your existing wireless or lan connection before you open your browser to go to the internet to test it out.

At my home, cell phone signal strength was very week (0 to 1 bar and no 3G) but it still worked, just very slow. My download/upload from speakeasy was 0.2-0.5/0.08-0.09 mbps/s (new york/los angeles). I will be trying it in an area with better cell signal tomorrow to see if upload/download get faster.

Thanks, it worked flawlessly using Vista Ultimate.

After countless hours with Sprint, and more countless hours on the web, here goes...

I have the m900 Moment. Updated to Android 2.1.

Problem: Could not get drivers while debug mode was activated.

Solution: FINALLY found some drivers that worked, uploaded them here: Download Samsung Moment USB Drivers Windows Works with Android 2.1.zip for free on uploading.com

I know, slow download, but hey! It is free.

I hope this helps all of you with the same issue. Sprint and Samsung say it is a "known Issue" and they are working on it. I am too impatient, and rely on my PDANet :P.

Good Luck!

Edit: Forgot.. I use WinXPpro, Samsung Moment, fresh install Android 2.1 from Sprints Website.

Hey ya'll! I don't post often at all but I do read these forums quite a bit. Thank you all so much! Thanks to this thread I got Pdanet to work and I'm using it now to access the internet. I did it this morning and it's FAST! I was using a Cricket broadband card but I'm going to cancel that. The only thing that took a long time was downloading the Samsung software for the drivers. As soon as I installed that everything else was a piece of cake. Just wanted to say thanks!

Thanks so much SilverExpress! I was having the hardest time getting PDAnet to work with my samsung moment, but the software you left a link for here fixed everything! :) Now I can tether with my moment, and it's even faster than my broadband interent card!
