Setting up CM6

Not sure, I believe you still have to flash the gapps from recovery

When I use Rom Manager to update, it shows a checkbox to 'flash gapps' and 'wipe data'. I was wondering if the gapps are updated through RM the same as they would be anywhere else. Also, would I have to wipe data when updating; and if I already have the gapps installed, I wouldn't have to flash gapps unless they're updated...right?

All this is assuming I'm using RM to update each nightly.

I believe Koush(maker of RM) has all these things put into RM. Again, using the rom manager application is super easy but I would still use the recovery to do all updates imo;)

is there a way to customize what shortcuts are on the dockbar? I remember being able to do it when I used adw in stock. and how would find out what changes have been made through the nightlies without actually searching the settings etc? Also, do I have to wipe data if I go from the stable version of cm6 to a nightly? I read on xda that you don't have to data wipe to go update the nightlies bit nothing was said about stable to nightly. Any help is appreciated.

I have been running CM6 for a month or so with no added kernel --
Battery life is similar to pre-CM6 levels, a little bit better. Speed could be improved at times.

What is the favorite kernel as of late? Looking to flash one tonight. I just wipe cash before, right?

I am using the #9 stable kernel (CFS version) you can get here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9992367/UncappedKernel-Stable-10122010.zip

You can try different CFS and BFS kernels by downloading them from here: [Kernel][GPL] UncappedKernel (CFS/BFS versions) [2.6.29.6][10/12/2010] - xda-developers There are two versions for many of the kernels. An overclocked kernel up to 768mhz and one up to 691mhz. You can try either one for a few days then flash the other to compare. Some people say they notice a big difference between the speeds and others don't notice much difference.

When flashing clear your cache and dalvik cache before you flash the new kernel. Then flash like you would a ROM from recovery and the kernel will install. Reboot and you're good to go.

If you use GPS/Navigation much then you will get better reception flashing one of the stable kernels (CFS version) instead of a BFS kernel. I have only used the CFS stable kernels and am happy with the performance since I use GPS a lot.

I am pretty sure that you need to find the stock kernal to flash. I have flashed nightlies and kept the brainfuct kernal after the flash. FWIW....

I flashed the latest stable kernel. I don't know exactly what it does other than allow overclocking (I wasn't able to actually overclock anything using SetCPU or OC Widget before flashing). What else does flashing an uncapped allow?

I would also like it if someone could answer my earlier question of how to customize the ADW dockbar, if it is possible. :)

hey guys..i just wanted to let everyone know that andy hasn't beatin me at wordfeud yet we've played about 15 games, but it seems he's more advanced in helping others than helping himself get the win..sorry andy but i had to put it out there lol!! :D

If you flash a new nightly, your kernel will revert back to the stock kernel. At least I've always had to reflash an uncapped kernel after flashing a new nightly

Weird. I didn't have to reflash the kernal when I flashed the new nightly. I don't do the nightlies very often, I get one working and leave it alone....

When I flash a nightly, kernel version goes back to 2.6.29.6-cyanogenmod ameer@darchstar#3. Unless of course the stock kernel changes

Flashing 6.1 now, after a wipe and such.

Plan on new CFS kernal, new GAPPS and hopefully Angry Birds will play right with OC setup. If not I'll be looking towards an EVO.

So far, so good. Pretty snappy might I add.

We'll see after a day or 2 with battery and such among other things. But so far I'm happy.
