Setting up CM6

Hi.
I've rooted my hero and tried fresh 2.4 rom. I've got to say, it drained memory for no apparent reason. I went back to stock.

Now, I'm ready to dive into CM6. It's like starting over, again. It's quite intimidating. I do have ROM Manager. How do I get the CM6 from the 'series of tubes' to my phone in the safest, most expedient manner? I thought I could just follow the first link of the introductory post, but alas! I don't GET it.

Call me stupid & a scared rabbit. I don't care. Just give me the step-by-step, and don't skimp on the micro-steps, know what I mean, Vern?

You can either manually download those zip files and flash from recovery

OR

Use the Rom Manager application and 'Download Rom'. You may need the paid RM, not sure:confused:
 
Got the cm6 on! How do I recover my backups, my pictures and mp3s? I used titanium (all it gives is a black screen) I used appbrain, and it gives me the basics. I can't get my phone to SEE my sdcard (or says, "Sorry, your SD card is busy"). Why is that?
 
Why can't I get internet, google search to work after flashing installing CM6 with rom manger? Already searched the forum and no luck, please help.
 
Hi all,
need some advice, I have sound when I use headphones, but no external sound. I've done a fix permissions, audio settings are normal, but I still have no sound for music, ringer, video.

Try deleting data in menu, settings, manage applications and then reboot phone. Otherwise what build do you have?

Have you looked under cyanogenmod settings? There are some settings in there that may help

I don't why you would NOT be able to see your sd card:confused:
 
I did looked under cyanogenmod settings, everything is normal, I went under manage applications, but what data am I supposed to delete? Thanks for your help.

If you go to 'all' when you're in manage applications, maybe there's an app with music. Maybe you can delete the data:confused:
 
I was able to recover my SD card, because I cautiously backed it up before flashing. I still can't get my favorite app, vignette, to go. It's not just my favorite, it cost more than all the others, too. Why doesn't Appbrain protect me? Titanium, you broke my heart.

What theme are you trying to flash?

Usually the developer of the theme will give exact instructions on what to wipe and when to flash

Did try restore in TB and it still did not work?

It's not listed on Tit-B's Backup/Restore log. I wish there was a search option. I can find Vignette photos on the sd card by using the file manager, but not the actual program.

Also lost another app I paid for (silly game, but still), and I know I can restore the nandroid backup, but that's admitting defeat, and there's so much I already like more about CM6 than I do the stock.

Blerg.

Maybe I just don't understand how to use the TB properly? I thought it would be fairly intuitive.

What you could try but I don't know if it would work, but worth a try if you have time;)

'Nandroid' your current set up with CM6

Then 'nandroid restore' back to your old set up

Then go into TB and 'back up' those specific apps that you are talking about

Then 'nandroid restore' back to CM6

Go into TB and see if those apps can be 'restored' onto your CM6 set up
 
For anyone running 2.2/froyo, google instant was just released for the google browser. Neat new feature, just load the stock browser and you will see google instant.:)

this is the theme I was gonna try first. I did flash it, but it sat on the custom boot screen for over 20 mins. it just kept looping. has anyone else tried this one? did I do something wrong?

Well, that's impaler747's theme. I have not tried but if you are having troubles booting it up, I KNOW he will help you get it going;)
 
Now, I've gone back and forth, between the pc & phone, copying files onto a newly minted 8 gig sd card (got a memory warning - through stock this time), flashed the CM6 rom; flashed gapps and now a constantly repeating intro! I've pulled the battery twice, in an attempt to revert to stock, but no joy. Both times it ignored my "home press" and I'm watching the cute cyanogen (mod) cycle over & over. What should my next step be (after the battery is depleted)?
