Shipping date speculation

Stop the speculation!
HMV have out up an ACTUAL SIGN with an ACTUAL DATE. Which is Monday.
HMV to sell Nexus 7 starting next week | News | TechRadar

Edit:- Also their website..
Asus Nexus 7 16gb Android Tablet (Google) (2012): technology: hmv.com

Well - that has well and truly p'd me off. There is no way, should they be shipping in waves as per earlier posts, that I will get mine before Monday, yet I ordered directly from Google on the hope that I'd get it before it was in the shops.

The only way it will arrive by Monday is if it were shipped today .... I cant see it happening. :(

Someone at XDA posted this:

I just spoke with google phone support. the charges for the nexus 7 have dropped from my account I wanted to make sure that my order was okay. He informed me that that was a good thing and i can expect the shipping notice later today

We'll see...

I'm very disappointed in Google as well if that be the case

Sorry..but how is that any different than all of the other retailers and their release dates? What does that have to do with the Google preorders?

Are you kidding? It's a SIGN near a DOOR! I've never been lied to by a sign which was near a door. I once saw a sign for a free personality test, now I've signed my soul over to Zenu for a billion years and I'll never talk to my parents again.

A sign near a door of a retailer. Not Google

As I wait with my pitchfork and torch in hand to see if I get an email today or if rioting is in order I feel like I need to rant again about the gigantic clusterf--- that is every single freaking Android launch. Stop me if you've heard this one.

Apple product launch goes like this:

1. Announce product with solid ship date.
2. Allow pre-orders and allow hype to build
3. Days before the product ships release review units to the bloggers/journalists you know will give you a positive review no matter what you give them. Hold back review units from those you know will be more critical.
4. As people read glowing reviews after glowing reviews, release the product on time.

Android launch goes like this.

1. Announce product. Give no set ship date, just say it's coming "soon".
2. Allow pre-orders if you must. Preferably not. So what if customers buy something else in the meantime.
3. Give no word on when "soon" might be. If rumors come out that the product has been delayed because of design issues/software bugs/it kills kittens and small children, just ignore those rumors.
4. If you're feeling ambitious, release a preview unit or two to random bloggers. Doesn't matter if they're inclined to give a positive review or not. If they pan your device, it's no big deal. Might even be a plus.
5. Extremely important!!! Let the hype die down. Let it die. Wait until only the fanboys are interested and the common people no longer care.
6. Release device with no hype at all. Ideally, the fanboy just walks into the store at random and discovers it is there.

It's easy to blame bad releases on OEMs and carriers, but this time it's a pure Google device being sold by Google. They basically control everything about the process from manufacturing to shipping and they are totally f---ing it up. Again. Just like every other Android launch.

I would say imagine my disappointment that I didn't get woken up in the middle of the night by a shipping email but.... I'm preaching to the choir here. Since I haven't seen said email, I can tell you they didn't ship yesterday and shipping two day items over a weekend sucks since you're waiting an additional two days. This is worse than getting toys that required batteries for Christmas back in the days when everyone was still closed on Christmas day. Or a sled during a winter with no snow. Or a bike during a winter that is all snow. Or a pet that loathes you and is out to kill you whenever your parents aren't watching. Or Depends. Or socks.

That was deep man. Pretty sure you just channeled everyone here...or is that just me...idk :D

After sitting through the GNex abomination of a launch, I totally understand your feelings. I think everyone-who-is-not-Apple should pay closer attention to how Apple does it. Love them or hate them, they have launches nailed.

I can't call this one a CF just yet. I'm immensely impatient and want the damn thing yesterday but nobody has really hinted at a date besides a few B&M outlets which may have just jumped the gun. It has CF potential, but I don't think this launch has crossed that line yet. Not saying they couldn't have done better as your post illustrates.

People at XDA (this is such a common phrase around here that I sometimes wonder why I don't just join them, although their shipping speculation thread is a bit if a car crash) are claiming to be able to order from ebuyer.co.uk with free next day (Friday) delivery.

Asus Nexus 7 Tablet PC - Tablets | Ebuyer.com

I'm committed to waiting for the Google Play release now but what do you think? Their homepage also states stock expected on Mon 19th.

YAY! I got an email from eBuyer saying my payment has been taken!

Tho...knowing my luck they'll come to deliver it tomorrow and there won't be anyone home. :(

Either Ebuyer are about to let a lot of people down when they change their mind, or there will be a lot of annoyed customers who pre-ordered from the play store.

First world problems man.
Relax, it's just a tablet. You'll live if you get it a few days or even weeks late. Beyond that, no guarantees though. :D

True. I'm betting on the former, since I haven't heard of any shipping notifications yet.

It is trending heavily towards CF area IMO. At the very least, I find serious fault for Google's lack of communications with anyone on this. Let's assume we didn't have any leaks. We'd all be here having no idea when the thing was going to ship. Even with the leaks all we can do is make guesses.

If its any consolation to the folks that preordered, I guess Gamestop is not releasing theirs. They have changed the price to $99,999.99 and removed the release date. Saw this in a thread at XDA. I can't confirm as Gamestops site is blocked at work.

It's no longer listed on their website. You may be able to get there with a direct link, but it doesn't show up in search results or if you browse for it.

What does it mean?!?!

A quick look at Gamestop website and the Nexus 7 is missing. The only reference is a preorder for the screen protector.

I took a look on my phone and couldn't find it at all. Folks over at XDA are getting a lot of confirmations from Gamestops stores that they are in fact in stock, but not available for sale and locked out of their system so they cannot process transactions.

To be completely honest I can't see why anyone is calling this a failure right now. They said from the start that it will ship in the middle of July. I know you can argue the sight said 1 - 2 weeks but even then we are still in that arena. granted that time line has just passed (just) but we all saw the site change to 3 - 4 weeks a few days after. They probably got so many calls and emails they put it back just so they would stop getting all so many complaints/calls.

Anyways, personally going into this I thought it wouldn't ship till this Friday coming up or the following Monday. Dont get me wrong I really wanted it to be sooner. I can't see this being a failure IF they get the shipments out by the end of day Monday.
