Shipping date speculation

when i ordered my samsung nexus they charged the card early in the afternoon and i got my tracking number around 1:30am EST.

Guys sams club is the place to go......had the tags out but no display model showing, grabbed a tag, walked up to the register......done and done, for about $15 cheaper than my google play preorder.

So I shouldn't be upset at having to pay for shipping on a device that I can get locally at a lower price?

I'm typically ok paying for shipping in order to get products shipped to my home.

From now on, I'm going to refuse paying the pizza guy, and like hell if I'm going to tip anyone I PAID FOR THE FOOD! I could have just drove over there and picked it up at the pizza place for cheaper. I bet you I would get it faster too, because I drive faster than them and wouldn't need to make any stops along the way.

So now I have a $228 pending charge from GOOGLE *Devices and a -$228 pending charge (as in negative, as in an account credit) from GOOGLE *Google Storage. Can someone tell me what this means? I pre-ordered on 7/5, by the way.

Damn. I still haven't seen squat. (Nothing on my credit card, wallet account or UPS.) Think I'll try calling various Staples stores in my area here in a bit and see if any are available and just refuse my order when it finally comes. I don't buy any of the reasons I've seen posted around for justifying sticking with a Google Play order. Seeing how poorly they communicate, I'm not so sure that one year warranty is worth much. (Besides, I'm not seeing a one year warranty stated anywhere on the Play site.) And since we're seeing that they obviously aren't filling these orders in the order they were placed like they are saying... yeah, not happy.

But your username has the word "happy" in it! I don't understand how this could happen. NOOOOOO

Umm, not really the same thing. I've got two buying options:

1. Order from Google - pay $282.19. Hasn't shipped to me yet so I'm going to assume it ships on Monday. Two day shipping and it gets here on 7/18.

2. Go to Sams - Pay $264.86. Have item in hand on 7/13.

Now, which is a better deal? Paying $20 less and having my Nexus right now like I do or paying $20 more for the privilege of having it 5 days later?

Good luck with #2. You going to camp out to get one before they sell out? :D

I just came from there. Bought one and they had three more in stock. That was one store. The other store had 4 in stock as of 1445 CST. So, I've got mine and am angry at Google as I still have not got a shipping notice. So they left those who pre-ordered out in the cold and those who just wandered in off the street and winning.

And I got the $25 balance as well. What benefit comes to pre-ordering again?

I love these comments, I've been cracking up all morning....BUT I do have to say this is the nature of the game. Happens all the time with videogame pre-orders, apple computers...you name it. I've walked out of best buy with Halo 3 when friends w/ pre-orders were waiting for their call from gamestop. I've waited almost 4 weeks for an iPad 3 while people were walking out of the Apple store with them. The incentive to pre-order is so you don't have to make calls and hunt around town fighting demand. I generally only pre-order items if I feel there will be a huge demand with limited supply, but in this case I made an exception b/c I thought the $25 credit was only for pre-orders. Clearly I was wrong so I pay the penalty of waiting a few days. No biggie I'm freaking busy anyway but I am just as antsy to get one as the rest of you. Lesson learned. Not really google's fault.

But if you pre-order at the store you get it launch date. That's why you pre-order. You don't pre-order so you can get it 5 days later for $20 more. And Google hasn't even shipped my order so it's possible it could be longer than that AND I'm paying more and Google hasn't told me squat.

Most of the time pre-ordering in stores is a safer bet (not always). A lot of times pre-ordering direct from the company especially blows. Same thing happened to me with Apple, except in my case they were backordered but people were walking out of stores with them. I was kinda peeved. All-in-all I still say pre-ordering is for chumps unless there's a nice incentive or there is going to be enormous demand. Think about it, you're basically paying them and getting nothing in return except a 'place in line'. This is like the 4th time I've fell for pre-ordering, and I can't recall when I've ever felt like I came out ahead.

I've just decided to cancel my order. I have deleted my card details from Google wallet to make sure the charge does not go through. I was happy to pay
