Hi Guys this is still not working for me this is a step by step of what I have tried.
open folder organizer lite
select apps tab
scroll to stock messages
click dropdown and select icon
change icon to my chosen one
go back to home screen
long press and create shortcut
select folder organizer item
select apps
select messages
once i do this the icon i want appears on the home screen for 2 seconds and then it changes back to the standard default icon.
I have also tried this

Must admit that weatherbug is the only weather app / widget that actually knows where I live. Everything else says "North East Lincolnshire" and will not give any weather data.
Shame though you can't resize it as it doesn't look right next to a clock with a lower height, it won't go into the centre of the screen (has to be slightly to one side), and "United Kingdom" appears as "United Kin.." when UK would be better.
Liked some aspects of Launcher Pro beta, but didn't like the positioning on the icons at the bottom - they need a coloured backdrop such as the windows taskbar to highlight them. They look wrong sitting on your wallpaper and don't give the impression of their importance so to speak.

Had a think and changed my layout once again, using Launcher Pro I've found pretty much exactly what I wanted - Less homescreens as I couldn't justify filling all 7 up just for the sake of it. So being able to reduce this to 5 was just right for me.
Also much prefer being able to group apps into a folder that I can launch from a single icon usion Folder Organizer.
(1 screen is missing as I forgot to get a grab of it - It's a page full of FeedR widgets)

Search for Jorte in the market. Then when it's installed add the Jorte Monthly (4x3) widget to an empty screen. That's the calender that will appear, you can then customise how it looks (colour etc)

Do you mean System Info Widget?

) Been playing around with it today and had a wee change about.
Wall paper is one from the Zedge app.
Lock Screen
Left 3 - Blank at the moment, looking for some cool apps to put here
Left 2 - Cubed Music Player and Astrid ToDo
Left 1 - Standard YouTube widget, Facebook Widget and folders sorted with Apps Organizer
Home - Digital Clock, Standard Weather, the rest are self explanitory
Right 1 - Juice Defender/Plotter, Power Controls and Sound Controls
Right 2 - CalWidget synced with Google Calendar with WC Fixtures uploaded
Right 3 - Is just the standard photo album app, pics of the wee man on there, forgot to blur it so won't bother uploading it...

And there you have it.

Hey, I'm having the exact same problem. HTC Desire, 2.1, using full FolderOrganizer (2.2.1)
A little "work around" I did was make a new label, call it "Messages", change the icon, add the Messages app inside it, and add the Label to the home screen or where ever. Atleast now I/you can have a custom Icon for Messages.
Will post my screens as soon as I'm done with them. There are so many options, and I cant really decide on a final. I'm sure I'll never finish.

I tried to add this and did what you said but when I tried to install the 4x3 widget it kept saying home screen full despite it being an empty page. Am I missing something obvious?

These are from weather and toggle widgets
Not sure what's going wrong for you, the 4x3 widget should go straight on to an empty page no problem. It'll even go on if you have a single row of icons across the top or bottom.
I've just taken mine off my page and re-inseted it without any fuss. Not sure why you're having problems. Have you tried totally clearing a different page and putting it on there?
Do ANY of the Jorte widgets go onto a page?

Thanks for the workaround it was doing my head in, its not ideal but it will do so thanks.
Its really a strange one as when you create just the shortcut and allocate it a new icon it reverts to the stock message icon but when i use the workaround and create a new label and then put the shortcut in the new label the shortcut is showing the icon i selected and not the stock message one.
It just does not seem to let you change the icon when you create a shortcut for some weird reason.
