The BIG 2.1 Thread

Wow! Super smooth and a huge improvement. I've never installed anything that sounded this 'complicated' before and this was a breeze. Did it all on the phone. Super cool.
Would have loved to see the pinch feature in the pics, but still is a nice improvement.
Can see pics and play vids through the new gallery just fine. No skipping etc.

THANKS!

Are photos displayed from your Picasa account automatically, or is there a setting for this? I currently don't have a Picasa account, but this sounds like a really nice feature!

Go into Settings -> Accounts & Sync then select your gmail account. Inside there you have the option to sync your Picasa Web Albums.

Fortunatly, this is illegal. Google do not distribute it for free, therefore it is not public domain. You can discuss it, but please don't link to the files or discuss where to get them.

Try leaning your phone left and right while in the gallery application.

wow...i've been playing with it while sitting on my desk!

For those whose post's were merged before you may have missed the above messages by another mod that you are not allowed to distribute the file.. Please see above

Thank you

Thanks to OP...this was about the only reason I might have considered trying the 2.1 N1 OS on my Droid, and now I don't have to. :)

The down-side is that the Gallery still shows 101 directories w/album art, et. al. in it, rather than allowing you to designate appropriate folders to include.

while this new gallery looks way nicer than the stock one right now, it's too buggy for me to use. randomly going through my pics, i would get thrown back out to the gallery's main folders screen. zooming in makes the pics look really blurry while the original gallery doesn't do that when zooming in. pics also take really long to load for some reason while doing an overall view of the pics in a folder. a bunch of pics would load and then there would be some blank square picture holders, then some more pics load and then some more blank spaces. kept seeing that loading circle thing. too bad because i really like the interface but i uninstalled it because its basically unusable to me.

Humancyborg just released a port of the latest 2.1 dump, you can see his thread here.

Too bad, was kind of hoping effort would go in to the Droid's sense rom (that only sorta works). But glad to see this release all the same.

Nothing new or special far as I can tell, back to 2.0.1. Until someone fixes up the sense rom I don't see a reason to sacrifice performance and LED and keyboard lights (still) and handcent.

I know some have better performance than others, but the only difference can be the apps that are restored, so either way some of them aren't meshing well with 2.1 and its affecting (a lot - but not all - peoples) performance.

Go into Settings -> Accounts & Sync then select your gmail account. Inside there you have the option to sync your Picasa Web Albums.
Hmmm... I don't have that option. When I click on my Gmail account (GAFYD), my options are...

Sync Calendar
Sync Contacts
Sync Gmail

... all of which are checked for me.

Could someone please repost the link to the keyboard backlight fix? It was on a previous page, but that link is not working anymore. Can someone reupload it? Thanks!

Agreed. It would be so much easier if people would just post in the right place to begin with. :D ;)

What's the right place? Why the arbitrary limit on one thread for 2.1? We have 100 threads about screen protectors, why not merge that?

Sorry if this sounds rude, but you guys have a weird sense of forum moderation around here. Don't get me wrong, this is a great site and community, but it's frustrating when someone wants to talk 2.1 but doesn't want to post in a thread with 400+ replies dominated by a few big posters.

lol it wasn't my call. My best guess on the answer is that 2.1 isn't officially out yet, so there really is no need for tons of threads on the same subject. As it has not yet been released, it would be redundant. Screen protectors and what not, on the other hand, are readily available.

And as for your "it's frustrating" comment... I'm really sorry, but I just don't get it. That is very hard logic for me to follow. Seeing as how there are actually only a hand full of us running 2.1 at the moment, I would think that people seeking information would be more inclined to post in a thread which is obviously very active rather than start a new one and risk being overlooked.

2.1 Patches

I haven't seen this posted so I thought I would share. Found this over at Droid Forum. Another piece of the 2.1 version for us non-rooted 2.0.1 folks.

[Mod note: link removed]

In order to use the news and weather portion it appears that you must also have the 2.1 news and weather app loaded.

Can't wait for the actually release. Of course by the time it's released we will all already have most of it!

What does release date have to do with redundancy?

Maybe this will make my point a bit clearer:

One of the more recent posts that got merged in here was asking questions about 2.1 and it totally fell by the wayside amidst all the back and forth. It's hard to even find the posts anymore. There have been quite a few threads merged into this one that are incomprehensible now. You can't see who is replying to whom (for the most part) as the posts get all mixed together.

Anyways it's not a big deal, I am just saying you guys should consider that it's not always bad to have more than one post about a subject, and don't need to run around cleaning up the forum all the time -- it makes things a pain to read.

The other day there were some 20ish posts in a row in the Droid forum that got moved. I know that your initial reaction is that shows people are posting in the wrong place, but to me, that means you guys don't understand how people are using the forum.

Still thanks for your response and hope this is helpful rather than critical.

.

You and I seem to be on the same page regarding 2.1. I am waiting for a good ROM to be released before I make the move. In other words, I'm waiting for your seal of approval. ;) :D

It's been posted but you don't see it because it's kind of a legal grey area so they have (rightly so) been locking the threads.

FYI - the 2.1 clock app is not compatible with Contact Owner, one of my favorite programs (displays owner contact info on the lock screen)...when I run the clock it displays the contact owner info and covers up most of the clock, making it unusable, even though the screen has not been locked...just in case anyone else is using the Contact Owner app.
