Root The "Fix everything by turning your phone into an Evo 3d" thread

this phone really isn't so bad.. other than the sms error (which can be fixed with s-off)... this phone has an average processor, what i think is an amazing camera, sense is okay, and its not too fat... whats not too like???

This is very true. Plays GTA wonderfully, thats a good processor :D Plus Sense 4.1 makes it look amazing.

The camera on this thing is just amazing. The radio issue isn't so bad for me so I can live. 4EXT allows a rom without needing to flash a boot.img in fast boot. Every phone has a flaw. Whether it be miniscule or not. I don't think I ever owned a phone that didn't need rooting. Except the elite...but that has a screen wake issue where the sensor is too sensitive or poorly placed. All have flaws.

ive actually returned back to sense roms because the jellybean cam and android camera apps just frustrate me... they aren't bad but im used to royalty with the htc cam

I don't think I could agree more. HTC has a superb camera. I'm using mobster rom now, and holy crap. This phone was good before root. Now, well, its amazing.

I think a lot of people are either just not understanding what they are reading, or are over thinking it. I'm tempted to just yank the PRL section as that seems to be the biggest problem, even if it;s optional, many seem to think it's required.

In reality, it's the most difficult part and gives most people the least benefit.

I actually would suggest that you remove it, myself. It made no difference in my signal quality. (and I'm in an area that is incredibly saturated, both in towers and use) In the end and it's quite complicated relative to the previous descriptions... especially since it involves having to change the way HTC Sync behaves for most users by this point (as one would have to install HTC's drivers to get as far as unlocking) just because of the Diag steps.

So that's one vote for yanking the PRL instructions. Not required and is negligible in benefit compared to the steps before it.

So, I spent over an hour attempting this today. I'm using a coaxial cable that I stripped slightly, so it can reach the inner contact. Obviously, it reaches the SD Card contact without an issue. I tap, wait for approximately 1.5 seconds, and release, and repeat.

Nothing. Still sober.

I think S-Off and I just aren't meant to be.
You tap, and don't let go for 1.5 seconds? I believe the way you're supposed to do it is tap, let go right away, then wait 1.5 seconds, then touch it back.

Oh, is that how you did it? Then maybe I am doing it wrong. So quick tap, THEN hold. I think I'll be trying again on Wednesday!

quck tap and then quick tap and let go again... i personally just kept taping the thing over and over (at least 4 times) and it worked for me on my first try

No holding. Period.

*tap* *release* one one thousand two one tho---*tap* *release*

Interrupt the "thousand" after the first syllable with another tap. Approx 1.5 seconds.

Tap means tap. Not touch and hold.

I just want to say, THANK you so much I did this and my phone is no longer driving me insane, I was about to put it in the airplane mode from the top of the bridge.

Super mega thanks ! i followed the guide to the Dot ! and everything worked. I stopped getting the annoying texting errors("Radio Interface Resource Shortage") and drop calls.
Very Good.

I was having the same issues using a coaxial cable. Try using a paper clip, that did the trick for me. Just put tape where you going to grab it and thats it.

Where did you buy it? When I go to the google play store to purchase it, I am told my device is not supported. The other game I want to purchase but cant is GT Racing: Motor Academy 3D.

I anticipate that I should have my new microSD card tomorrow, and tomorrow I think I will attempt the s-off process again. I have only received the radio interface notification once, but I have drastic signal fluctuations regularly. In my first attempt at getting s-off I used a wire from a gutted Ethernet cable and I had Harmonia installed. In the process of tapping, I tapped out the 8GB microSD that came with my phone. I would like to ask people here who have had success with the s-off process, what implement did you use and what rom where you running? I used the same video tutoral posted by Droidula (from HTCEVOhacks) in my first failed attempt. I was getting nowhere with juopunutbear and I was stuck in the down arrow screen stressing out. I used the power+down vol method to get to fastboot and picked up jerofld newbs rooting guide at step 5 to reinstall harmonia. Seeing harmonia boot screen again made me quite happy. After my first experience I have a little trepidation, but reading the happy posts of the individuals who have been successful gives me some resolve.

Yeah.. its not in the market... i know people here and at xda are really against pirates but if its just not available, pirating is the only option..

file is fine from my end... tell me exactly what you are doing when you flash...

I reboot into bootloader, it comes up. i select bootloader, and then it attempts to flash, i get the CID incorrect! Update Fail! message every time. like i said before the other two worked great. not sure if there are any additional steps im leaving out for the radio...
