The (maybe) "Epic" Motorola X Pre-Release Thread

I now find myself defending this phone against people who talk down about it.

I was a hater when I first saw it. Then I saw the benchmark test of it being faster than the S4 and I changed my tune. I still say if you're on VZW the Droid Mini is a great deal and the Maxx is better.

The Moto X did one thing for me. It convinced me to get the Droid Maxx and not the S4.

Agreed, although I don't defend it (bc of my lack of authority on the matter)
The ONLY reason that holds me from ordering one at the moment is the initial offering price, both on contract and off - at least the speculative prices, that is.

When the phone comes out that you think you want, you're going to get this and try it, return for the other if you don't like it.

:D

Sorry - but that's my prediction for today. :) ;)

Prices subject to change, tax, title and license not included, your mileage may vary.

My take as always with phones is....Buy it, drive it, if not happy RETURN it!

Welcome to the Forums, John!

Yep... a locked bootloader makes it far more difficult to root and ROM the phone, or even remove the bloatware that the carriers inevitably load up devices with. With an unlocked bootloader, you can literally do anything to the phone you want. Verizon, in particular, HATES that.

If I'm paying full retail for a phone (which I am), I consider it MINE and I should be able to do any doggone thing I want with it.

All boot loaders unlockable except Verizon. Big shock there right?

Moto X will have an unlockable bootloader on all but Verizon - Android Community

What exactly is a developer edition? And how does it differ? Sorry for the newbie question.

So it looks as if I buy a Moto X or more likely the Droid Maxx, I will be saying goodbye to Android Forums. I won't be able to root or rom my phone so there will be no more need to come and discuss my phone? What fun is that? :(

Life post root? What's that going to be like?

Wow.

You must really be getting a great deal from Verizon. :(

Well I have only rooted one of my phones, and I find plenty of things to talk about here at AF :)

You'll likely be able to root, though the process to do so will be tougher because of needing to use security holes instead of it being allowed.

Is that similar to how iPhones are jail broken? Using a security exploit rather than how Android is usually rooted?

Yep. Just look at the Verizon S4.

Don't worry. Someone will find a way. I'm thinking the Maxx and X will be popular phones that will get support.

I was just watching a comparison video of the Moto X on youtube and and it had it and an iphone 5. It is crazy that the X is close to the same size as the iphone 5, that is really something remarkable, considering it has a 4.7 inch screen vs the 4.0 inch screen.

Not happy with what im hearing from initial reviews on the Moto X cam... this preview is comparing it to the HTC one cam which is hardly the best around and the Moto X didn't do so hot.

Sadness =(

Yea that's been said a few times in some of the reviews I've watched.

Namely the fact that the phone doesn't adjust to different light and just kind of shoots one way and one way only no matter what the lighting situation is.

That's a big one for me, ex....When taking a pic just tap on the lighter or darker point of the desired subject and that will dictate how light or dark the photo will be...Supposedly the X will not respond or adjust it's light intake. Bummer!

For as long as I can remember, Motorola has never had great cameras, and it doesn't help that Google's camera software can't help them out because it's not great in itself.
