BTW, Maps is already installed, and it is already version 4.2.0, just 'Layers' causes it to FC.

The market can't seem to figure that out though...

I agree.

Umm ... is the progress bar supposed to look like that?

Yeah, I was wondering as well...kinda looks like an EKG line, or something like that? Haven't seen one like that before...

That's one of the Easter Eggs :D

I think the other one is the "hourglass" icon that looks like a green bar that spins...used to look like this:

cbKM5.gif

I tried deleting maps.apk manually and reinstalling from the market and Im still getting the "installation unsuccessful" message. I will wait to see what others find.

Edit* I also dont have layers installed.

im using it right now and it seems faster but that may just be me being clouded by the awesomeness that is my phone

I noticed it earlier today when I had my "temporary" theme on my phone and now again. Is battery percentage native in 2.2? Nice!

Redflea...I am happy to see this worked for you!!!!!!!!

Enjoy the Froyo! :D

I did...for about 10 minutes? ;)

Sadly, just after I completed the nandroid, and before I could do anything else other than try Maps, things started going south...same issues - non-responsive UI and lockups on the home screen even before I can do anything...just scrolling between home screens doesn't work, etc.

<sigh>

Gonna keep futzing with it, this is the best luck I've had so far, at least initially, just wish I could figure out what goes wrong.

One thing I have noticed is that when things start going south, I see the sync icon in the notification bar...stays there a while. Not sure if that is a coincidence, or ? But I don't remember seeing it stay there as long w/pre-2.2 ROMs.

Maps doesn't seem to work at all for me - when I launch it the GPS does not kick in (It remains on a full screen view of the entire US) and after trying to view the Labs features, the menu becomes non-responsive and I have to do a battery pull...probably just me.

I just loaded this ROM fresh and the sync icon has been there for ten minutes easy.
I am going to let the phone chill for a bit - it has had a long sync for me in the past with other ROMs and no issues.

Nope, mine did the exact same thing. Since I have removed maps.apk I can not install it again. sigh

@ Redflea: Both the original 2.2 and Birdman's did that for me (haven't tried Fab's yet). It will continue syncing for a long time, and it will be unresponsive during that time. Best thing to do is just leave it alone, and go do something else. Once it's done syncing & downloading your apps, it will speed up. My phone is fast & smooth now. I'm not going back to 2.1.

just a thought for anyone with the sync icon mine did that too and it was trying to sync picassa and other stuff i didnt want to sync so check your accounts and sync settings i think it is

Thanks for the suggestions on waiting while sync goes on, but this is happening after my apps have all been restored, after all my accounts have been added and finished normal syncing, e.g., all the emails are calendar info are there. Like hours after depending on which 2.2 ROM i've experienced it on.

But I'm also seeing my (by now boring to everyone, my apologies) problems w/out any sync icon showing...cursed, I guess.

I even tried fix permissions from ROM Manager, didn't help.

Nandroiding back to my CM 5.0.7.1 ROM as the work-week is starting. Bummed....

Fab, you were the best of the lot so far, but it appears I have the anti-Froyo Droid.

I got Maps to work. I went into /system/app and renamed the one that came with this ROM to Maps.apk.bak ... then I restored using Titanium Backup. I have all layers, etc.,etc...

I can supply the Map.apk I have ... it's just the one from the first Froyo 2.2 ROM that was released.

wheni go to restore in your direction it starts and says :

clockworkmod recovery v 1.8.1.4
checking MD5 sums...
MD5 mismatch!

it doesnt load from there....any ideas...thanks

DLed file in OP
Extracted zip and placed folder in CW "Backup" folder
Clean wipe x3
CW Recovery - nandroid - restore - NexFro file = MD5 mismatch

I have tried several different ways and same error.
I even DLed the file more than once from the link in Fab's OP.
Hmmm. I have a final in the AM I just want to get it done, lol.

edit - FIXED
LOL, when I unzipped, it created a 2010-06-07.00.34.30 folder WITHIN the 2010-06-07.00.34.30 folder. I need to remove the other folder.
Doh!

Maybe you made the same mistake I did
