Tmobile-MetroPCS Merger Updates & Questions

MetroPCS website is down!
MPCS_maintenance-NO-DROID.jpg

Almost had a brain fart, I was on the metro site earlier and noticed a promotion for the Galaxy S3. They slashed off $100 instantly, and an extra $50 mail in rebate for new lines - They advertise it as $349.

This was around 9:35ish EST, 8:35ish in CST, so maybe that's something they put up right before the website went down for maintenance.

If they're gonna do any major S3 cleaning out they better start scrubbing harder than just $400...

Four hunert bucks don't cut it for me either. :( Half price, say two fiddy is 'bout right, but I don't really see it getting down to that.

I *might* go 3 if I Knew it was a version ready to rock and roll on the new train for awhile.

My (not really a) problem is I'm pretty dang happy with the Spirit. I don't Need the extra real estate of the S3 and the Spirit does all I need it to.

I think we saw them Once somewhere for a few minutes on some hellasale for $299 but that's been awhile back.

400 is still crazytalk for me.

Hey Guys/ Gals. Ive been thinking a lot about my future with or without Metro/ T-Mobile as my long or short term carrier. There are several issues that come into this decision and I dont know all the info I need to make this decision. So I am hoping someone can clear up these questions for me.

Right now I get about 1 bar with Metro, with spotty call quality, and constant drops to 1x. And when I have 4G its ok speeds, on average 1-3mbs which is fine, but doesnt last more than an hour before dropping to 1X again.

Heres my concern. I tried T-Mobile about a month or so ago and the signal in my house was horrible. It would not connect to any data, and I had to use Wifi for calling and data just to get the phone to work. I tried 2 different phones and it was the same issue. I tried their S3, and a Nexus 4, and both had no connection in my house. So I tried Verizon and it was great, best connection and speed out of all the carriers I have tried, but ended up coming back to Metro to basically cut my bill in half.

Now with the merger is T-Mobile going to use the Metro towers that I connect to now? And if so will I still be able to connect to them, or will they be only accessible with a new GSM phone? If I bought one of the new GSM phones will it connect to the old T-Mobile towers that didnt even work when I had T-Mobile previously? Or would it connect to the Metro LTE towers that I am just barely able to connect to now? And basically have the same spotty reception I have now. Or would these somehow improve once all is said and done?

I pay $65 with Metro now with unlimited everything, and insurance. With Verizon it was $116.99 for unlimited calls and text, with 4gb of data, and insurance. So a difference of 51.99. And if I went with the 2gb instead of 4 it would be a $41.99 difference. Which I doubt I would use considering I never went more than 2gb with Sprint a couple years ago, or Metro.

Basically it all boils down to this. Is there any chance that my current reception with Metro is going to improve once all these T-Mobile changes take place? Or is it going to possibly even get worse if Im eventually forced onto new T-Mobile towers that just do not work in my house? Thank you for your help and feedback!!

I'll be honest, the only way to know is wait and see. Anything else is just speculation and guessing.

If I had to guess though, I don't see it getting better in your house even if coverage is expanded.

My advice, wait and see and go from there. This is exactly why I use ST. The sacrifices I make with service indoors is equal to the 39 bucks I pay. I wouldn't pay 50 or 60 for what I have. Maybe 50. So because of that I'm okay with it cause speeds are still great indoors and insane outside.

I may have said something about this before.

This is what I think, stick with the cdma metro phone for the next year or so, unless the signal gets worse. If the signal gets worse check to see if they have converted towers near you to hspa, if they have then go with gsm phone.
eventually they will convert those cdma towers to hspa but at first if tmo does not have coverage dont switch.

MetroPCS does NOT service Houston,TX
I am here from Miami,FL, been here 3 weeks.
I was used to the 1X speed from roaming on Sprint, voice and text are working ok.
MOST of the time I get 1X speeds on data BUT
AND here is a BIG BUT.......
The merger, I do get 4G LTE roaming on t-mo networks on my MetroPCS phone. Got the latest PRL 2034 for the Galaxy S3 before I left 3 weeks ago on a Saturday.
Now I do NOT get 4G sitting her in the hotel due to concrete/rebar and location to t-mo tower but on 290 and I-610 loop I am getting 4G, and it's fast....as fast as being in Miami (which I can not wait to get back to in several weeks
As the merger continues on Metro customers should be getting 4G lte when roaming were there are t-mo towers or getting 1x from Sprint, as well as voice.
So it's ok but I like my UNLIMITED everything with no throttles metropcs @ 50/month (2 phones with discount on one account or $100/month) versus t-mo $70/prepaid with throttles data after 5GB on 4G...
So some good is happening but voice/text will still be on Sprint

If anyone wants to know if their market is capable of getting 20x20MHz LTE or just what amount just comment your city and I'll let you know.
My area Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade County will all be limited to 10x10MHz

Could later change depending on further spectrum swaps and such

I'm here in the tried cities Michigan. I know tmo only has 2g towers but metro has 4g. Can them towers be upgraded to better hspa? I saw a sign at a metro store stating that better and faster new 4g was comming soon.

Tampa I guess will get the same as orlando? Also zip code 33440 which is out there just curious about that area in the middle of nowhere but I travel sometimes

Tmobiles not really doing any expansion till they get some low band spectrum but if they were to expand LTE 20x20MHz would be possible and also have HSPA+42 with spectrum left over

Yeah Tampa is the same as Orlando. Yea Clewiston is the boonies it can get 20x20MHz but you know how they serve those cities sometimes ,someone from Muck City might even steal the fiber running through :D JK no hate on Pahokee
