Root Unable to download TWRP 2.5.0 using GooManager

Now it's installing SU. Next is getting S-OFF. I'm debating whether to do that tonight or tomorrow evening, as I have to get up early. But then there's the Stanley Cup finals tomorrow, and I don't want to miss my Blackhawks. :)

first off boo on your hawks:mad:

see my thread for why:http://androidforums.com/sports/617321-hockey-fans-unite.html

and second.....i would do this when you have more time. maybe tues or something like that. gives you more time to read and ask questions if you have them.

A little upset, are we, that the "greatest goalie in the world" (I like how that label has now been put on Task--puhLEEZE--was pulled from a game because he gave up 4 goals?!? hehehe

Back to getting S-OFF...

I think I'll do this tomorrow if I get home around 4:30 CDT, which I might. That'd give me a couple hours before the game. If not, I'll try Tuesday.

So when I do this, I'm getting confused with the Baby Rancun instructions. Here's what that site says (my comments in red)

1. unlock the bootloader (done)
2. install TWRP recovery (done)
3. run BabyRacun (not done yet)
4. re-lock the bootloader (not done yet)
5. run the 3.15 RUU (not done yet)
6. unlock the bootloader again (not done yet)
7. run RabiesShot.exe (not done yet)

So when I was trying to figure out what "run BabyRacun" meant exactly, I saw this:

  • extract DirtyRacun files into the android folder you created when you unlocked the bootloader.
  • run BabyRacun as per Unlimited.IO

Am I correct in inferring that I don't have to do that whole Linux files on the CD thing? Just trying to figure all this out.

you will need a live cd of linux to run baby racun. i just really generalized. you will need to go to unlimited's site for more details. on their site all of the commands are linux so......

BTW, since this is a new phone with new card (it's a 32GB SD card), should I partition it like I did with all my previous SD cards? I remember doing so by doing the swap size, ext size, etc.

i have not found the need to partition the card with my evo 4g lte. it really is not necessary any more.

That's cool. I was just wondering. One less step to worry about.

Back to S-OFF...

I was reading through both BabyRacun and Facepalm, and the latter discussed SuperCID. Was I correct in reading that in order to get that, one just has to enter a certain string of commands in the terminal window, or is there an actual file one needs to install?

If you go with DirtyRacun / BabRacun no need to mess with SuperCID. ;)

If you go with Facepalm, that is part of the method, I believe. I'm not to well versed on SuperCID, but if needed I can call on Scotty our HTC god and he'll get the SuperCID stuffs squared away. He's really good at that stuff. :)

well according to my op for http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte...01-s-off-facepalm-s-off-htc-evo-4g-lte.html):
faq's:
  • you will need at least the su file installed and flashed so that you get root permission to add in superCID.
  • you will need adb and fastboot for this method to work. but since you have to be unlocked first you can use the same folder and adb files used to unlock the bootloader. if you do not have it, then you can go here: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte-all-things-root/671150-mini-sdk-all-rooter-needs.html. extract the .zip file into a folder (i'd call it android)
  • download the two facepalm files(do not extract them) and move them to the android folder.
  • open the command window from that folder and enter the commands as shown in the facepalm op.

so yes it is slightly more then entering commands. there are some files you will need as well.

About SU, with which I'm familiar...

Now that I'm unlocked and have installed TWRP 2.5.0, I went to install SU, but I'm not sure if it's properly installed, because when I open the app, it tells me it needs to install binary files and that I can get them one of two ways: via Play store or via TWRP (the "recommended" way). When I try the former, I keep getting the ole app closing problem. When I try the latter method of going through TWRP, it just brings me to TWRP's main screen. I confess I don't know where to go from that.

I'm wondering if SU did not install properly, even though I've tried a few times to uninstall then reinstall it.

This is a common problem with SuperSU once flashed from recovery for some reason.

Easiest way to get this fixed is to flash a rom. :)

I'd download the stock rooted rom and flash that. Make nandroids as needed before and after flash. ;)

I'm not even sure that I'm technically rooted to do that, because Titanium backup is giving me error messages telling me I'm not rooted. A couple other apps are telling me the same. Could I be unlocked, have recovery, but still be unrooted?

Well, THAT would suck.

If that's the case, then wouldn't I be unable to flash any ROMs, stock or otherwise?

well this is how it works. if you are unlocked then to finish the process of gaining root, you will have to either flash a rom which has su cooked in or flash the su file. once you do either then you will be rootd. su is what gives you permission to change whatever you want on the phone. it will allow you to use root required apps like tb.

if you have not done either then tb will not work.

1. so go here:
[ROM] Stock Rooted [OTA] 3.16.651.3 (1/31/13)
i would download the deodexed, but either is fine.

2. move the file to the sd card via usb(set to disc drive)

3. make a nandroid backup

4. wipe dalvik cache, cache, factory reset(data), and system

5. flash the rom

easy peasy

2. move the file to the sd card via usb(set to disc drive)

Thanks. BTW, I noticed that I no longer have this option. Whenever I connect a USB cable, I just get the customary Windows clunk sound, then a folder on my desktop screen pops up. I don't have any option for "charge only" or "disc drive".

ahhh well i'm not on sense and this might have been one of the things when the phone was updated to JB.

as long as you get access to the card and move the file over, your golden.

Yes, JB introduced MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) for phone connection to a PC. Once the phone is plugged in, it's connected. (as long as the proper drivers are installed properly ;) )

You're right, as long as the file gets there, it's bacon. :)

This may have to wait till the weekend. With my schedule this week, I just don't know if I'll have the time to keep redoing my data and everything else after I put on a stock ROM then go S-OFF, etc.
