Root Unable to download TWRP 2.5.0 using GooManager

try a re-flash of the rom. not only can it be a bad download(reason to check md5), but it can also be just a bad flash. it happens. try flashing it again and see.....if not then you can move on, unless you really want to try another rom out.

I did a reflash but am going to skip the update. md5 checks out on both files, BTW.

BTW, can you refresh my memory on how to fix permissions regarding Google Play store? Maybe that will correct the problem.

Alternatively, I've been trying to reinstall from my Gmail--Play account online. However, whenever I select an app to install (reinstall), it tells me that "You haven't accessed the Google Play Store app on this device with your Email account." Consequently, it doesn't allow me to install from the Web now. Any ideas?

go into the play store on your pc and then go to settings(its the one that looks like a wheel cog icon in the top right hand corner) and select "my order and settings", click on the settings tab. it should show you what devices you have assigned to your account.

Well, I certainly can't explain it.

Perhaps you can helpme with ssomething else. How do I get to back the 3-button menu option? I need it to select settings on some apps, like my Email accounts.

not sure, it has been awhile since i have been on viper. on aosp roms there is usually something is settings to allow app menus. i would check your settings.

This is REALLY annoying. I can't delete the over 100 Emails in my folder because I don't have the ability to press a menu button and select all. I can't change the settings in my SMS app and many others. Why would such a basic feature be removed?

Soft menu bar, disables the 3 dot, not there?

Ok. I'm running an older version.

Under long press for Home of Recent Apps, one of those will give you the same exact functionality.

Set one to Menu - same thing as 3 dots.

A ha! (No, not the 80's band.)

I stumbled upon the answer and hope this helps anyone else. It's easy to overlook. After selecting the aforementioned "Onscreen menu key," the phone has to be rebooted. That wasn't mentioned anywhere, but I suddenly noticed that brief message in the upper left of the screen when I toggled this function in the tweaks section. So, I rebooted the phone, and voila! The 3-dot menu feature is now back.

:dancing::congrats::congrats::congrats:

I tried that, sir, but the option for the 3-dot menu is not there.

That's not what I answered.

You don't need the 3 dots, you can get more screen space without it.

And the reason why you don't need it is because under Venom Tweaks, Buttons, you can map a button or a long press to Menu - same thing as the 3 dots.

My recent apps button is Menu and I long press that for recent apps.

Long press the home button for search.

My wife set hers up differently.

You can set up yours however you like.

But you're wasting screen space with those 3 dots.

Getting the button remapping and more screen space are among the big features in both Viper and MeanBean. :)

But if you prefer those 3 dots on screen, that's your choice. :)

By the way, always having a Menu button, even in places where the 3 dots don't appear - say on your home screen for example - is pretty handy.

And even though this phone was in the first series from HTC without a search button, Sense still understands context-sensitive searching, so having a search mapped to one of your buttons works in all the places it has for years with Sense.

And unlike other setups, lets you lose the Google Search widget on your home screen.

And then you can configure your search button, when used while you're at the desktop, to bring up Google Now or Google Search.

And you don't have to look at the top of screen in Contacts, or the bottom of the screen in Gmail, for the on screen search button, or look at the screen to to see if search exists and where is it now - you can have a button for that.

The combination of tap and long press gives you 6 buttons.

Mighty handy. ;)

Vader I had the same issue with Google Play not syncing.

I had to go into Menu / Settings / Apps (all tab) / select Google Play and clear all data. go back and find Google Play services, clear that out, then go back and find Google Services Framework, and clear that one out.

I always booted to recovery and wiped cache and dalvik then rebooted.

You'll have to tell google your location consent preferences again, etc.

Should work after that. If not, don't shoot me, fresh install.

I had to re-install a few times to get mine to work right, but I took the OTA every time.

My Play account finally ended up syncing after about 90 minutes. I was busy with other stuff when I noticed it started working.

On an unrelated note with Viper, I have a strange problem that crops up almost all the time with it. When I press the app drawer button to scroll through my apps, they are all missing. Gone. Nonexistent. I back out and re-enter the app drawer, but that doesn't help. I either have to reboot the phone, a rather tedious process just to access my apps, or I have to wait several minutes and go on to other things, hoping by that time the apps reappear. (I've wiped the cache and Dalvik just to see if that helped; it didn't.) BTW, this same problem occurs when I long press on a blank spot on a home screen to install an app shortcut. I long press, then press the "apps" button to choose from my apps, but then none of them are there; they are all absent.

Any idea why this occurs?

Redo permissions from TWRP, then hold power for 10 seconds to reset silicon and simulate a battery pull.

Android issue, not just Viper not just HTC.

Confusing, but the above fixes probably 98+% of that.

Hopefully with your luck this time we have a common fix that works. :o

Murphy's Law, go figure. :o :)
