I get to this part -> cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image

and it says no such file in directory.

this is the part im getting stuck on 4.we need to extract and then move the flash_image and the mtd-eng files on to the sd card. make sure that you do not put the extracted files in any folders. they need to be on the root of the card (very top level) how is this done i extrat them but no files are name this? i need helo:mad::mad::mad:

You need to re-lock the device before running an RUU.

open up a command window in your folder containing fastboot (the folder you used to unlock the device) and type in "fastboot OEM lock" with your phone connected to USB

moved your post to your original thread that you started. it is just easier to converse this way.

so the files will need to be extracted. when you extract it what files do you see? which windows do you have?

Is there a way to download the a root file to restore to root? My device still has clcokworkmod v5.0.2.2 but the root is not on there and for what ever reason my root files are not on my SD card. Does anyone have a HTC EVO backup that I can use to restore my root if that is possable?

I cant use any rooted apps and rootchecker says device is not rooted and superuser and Rom managment says can't do something with privliges

If you want to stay rooted, download the superuser zip and flash it from recovery.

If you want to unroot follow my above directions

Well I was going to give the phone to someone to use and they decided they didn't want it so I erased wverything on it and I did download the superuser zip but ido if its back to root cuz rootchecker says they phone is to slow and Rom manager force closes

You have to flash the su files from recovery.

You probably shouldn't be using ROM manager anyway, and root checker won't work if you didn't flash the file

Having the su files on the SD card doesn't actually do anything. You have to reboot into recovery and select install to flash that zip file.

ok so like everyone is saying about rom manager. DO NOT USE IT. i have seen way too many problems because it is way to buggy. Rom Manager is just the front part of a custom recovery called clockwork mod(cwm). and because cwm does not wipe well, it makes rom manager that much worse to use. so please stay away from it. it is much better for you to use your recovery rather then have an app do it for you. also i would ditch cwm all together. i would recommend amon ra as the recovery of choice.

if you need help switching recoveries then you get the instructions for it from here:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. just skip the root process and go to the after root section and find the switching recoveries section for instructions.

Ok that's probably why how would I go about flashing them?? Any why not is it bad?? I know it sucks cuz I couldn't install any Rom with it

and just an fyi you can flash roms as long as you have recovery. each custom rom has su cooked in so you should be fine. even if the rom you have does not have su, you can still flash anything as long as you have your recovery.

hope this makes more sense. please feel free to ask more questions if you have them.

ok what exactly are you trying to flash?

edit: ok i guess i cant' read. LOL

so first i would try and switch recoveries to amon ra. clockwork mod is not that great of a recovery.

and rom tool box is not the same thing as clockwork mod. it is just an app that backs up apps and its data among other things.

cwm mod is a recovery.

Ok I downloaded the zip and it didn't work it said something about something being old lol ill do it again. And try and thanks for being so paitent this is only my second root and so much more is avalable
