oh so when i go into market, it will only show apps compatible with my phone? thats pretty cooli was not aware of that.
That's the theory. As I understand it, developers mark what OS version the software is compatible with. Whether they can do it down to actual phone models or not, I don't know. I imagine there may be cases where a 1.5 compatible app will not work on a specific bit of hardware, but in general the Market should show you apps that'll work.
I bought my hero from the internet the day It came out en work with computer companies everyday after, seeing the nexus I've got a feeling were gonna get shafted by HTC & Android. They might throw us the current 1.6 with a few tweeks en call it a 2.x update. But we will not get most. of the features of the new 2.1 due to hardware limitations. Basically they messed up with the hero when it came to hardware spec. So I think they're doing damage limitation, April May we might see something concrete besides screen shots, by then we will be way down the priority list. I could be totally wrong but we will see In time.
Ever played Armadillo Roll? It's 3D, and totally smooth. Optimization goes a really long way as for how much you can do with this and that hardware. Hero will be just fine with 2.1 and 3D animations![]()

I assume that they will be optimized for minimal memory-use, and maximum performance, like every app should be. Just because HD2 are faster and have more RAM, does not mean the developers will go crazy and make crappy, slow, memory hungry apps. Am I right, no?

Woooh. Next few days
Hope it's true..Google's Andy Rubin caused a bit of a stir at last night's Nexus One conference when he said that everyone will be getting Android 2.1 when it's open source - i.e. in the next couple of days. This will be music to the ears of Android early adopters everywhere but, according to other sources, not all of the previous handsets will be reaping the benefits.
What's clear so far is that both the HTC Magic and HTC Hero will be going straight 2.1 without bothering with any version in between at all. The Magic will also get the benefit of the HTC Sense custom UI according to some. The HTC Dream or G1, however, will not be able to cope with the 3D graphics and will stay put at Donut (version 1.6).
We also know that the Motorola Milestone (Droid) will be the next to get Android 2.1, but there's no confirmation as yet as to whether the DEXT will benefit too. Again, there's no reason why the Samsung Galaxy shouldn't receive the update but in the mean time we've contacted HTC, Motorola and Samsung for confirmation. We'll update you when we know for sure.
UPDATE: There's no comment for the time being from Motorola on the DEXT or the timeline for the upgrade on the Milestone, but Samsung has got back on its position with the following statement:
"Future Samsung devices using the Android platform will carry or enable an upgrade path to the latest Android software".
Unfortunately, this doesn't tell us much about the Galaxy and its careful omission in these words doesn't bode well considering the suggestion from O2 that the Galaxy hardware is not equipped to run the new software. This detail has not been confirmed by Samsung.
Either way, the continuance of better and better software does rather leave phone manufacturers in a tricky situation as it's effectively asking them to produce future-proof handsets if they're expected by the public to keep up.

Hope it's true..
Magic, Milestone & Hero all to get Android 2.1 - Pocket-lint
Sounds good news to me, I've tipped it for Rob to take a look at, see if we can get it on the front page
Oh nice one. This scenario is exactly like when new games such as GTA are released. Shops get them early but they can't release it until the Developers say they can...unless someone leaks copy's / sells them early..
The last I heard from HTC (mid-Dec 09) was that Android 2.0 was due for release "in the near future" for the Hero. Does at this mean that they have now ditched the 2.0 release to move direct to 2.1? This either means that Google have given HTC advanced access to the Android 2.1 code before it is open sourced (a 'reward' for the work on the Nexus One hardware?) or does this mean it will be another few months before it is released for the Hero after 2.1 is properly open sourced and they have added on touch flo etc? *I think he means Sense UI*
Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely chuffed that I will be able to get Android 2.1 for my Hero (especially if it brings voice control and navigation etc), but its now four months since the last ROM update for the Hero (unbranded/unlocked) and since then Android has progressed from 1.5 to 1.6 and 2.0.
I'm pretty sure Pocket-lint is just quoting Google when they said (during the press conference) that 2.1 would be available when "it goes open source in a few days".
But that doesn't mean it'll actually come to phones in a few days...

which is why there were Hero ROM leaks lol..
Good news all around..lets hope they don't disappoint

Here is a comment from one of the 2.1 articles on the internet.. thought it was pretty good...may be someone has some answers?

We are talking about the same OS after all...

I think this can only be bad for battery life...oh by the way i read somewhere (i think) that 2.1 will have animated/interactive wallpapers. Does anyone know if this is true? I think i've seen this on the nexus, looks kinda cool, pointless, but cool![]()
