Root [UPDATED 28/12 - NEW INSTALLER] CyanogenMod 7/Android 2.3.4 Is avaliable for GT540!

Managed to get it working, but totally missing the original keyboard... my fingers are too fat for the new layout. Can i restore the keyboard or is there a multiple press keyboard i can download from the market?

Download and install SmartKeyboard Pro from here. Then go to Settings>Language & Keyboard>SmartKeyboard Pro (check the box, click OK to the warning)>Smart Keyboard Pro Settings>General Settings>Portrait Mode>T9 Then go to any text box and tap and hold on the text box, then press input method and select SmartKeyboard Pro

hey dudeman do you know when is the next release of milestone?..and is the milestone 4 still for testing only?

Not sure when the next release is coming, but from my guess, since its been 2 weeks since M4 came out, I think the full version of v2.0 will be out soon!

Hi!

I just rooted and flashed the latest version of this rom on a friend's phone yesterday and everything was just fine until the battery ran empty. Now the phone just won't charge and he can't turn it on even when it's plugged in.

Any ideas what to do?

Try taking out the battery and plugging in the phone, see if it turns on.

After all it turned out it has nothing to do with the flashing or at least not directly. The battery is a little bit cracked in not easily noticable way. Looking at hungarian forums it turned out to be a common problem with the GT540's battery in Hungary, after a couple months it just cracks. By holding it tight the phone can be turned on!

Thanks for your help anyway. :)

Its a 4gb sd adata brand it came with the phone. But i can unmount it and put it in a card reader and its fine

It seems that the cards that come with the phone don't really work with SwiftDroid.. So all you can do really is either to get a different card or wait for a fix in a later version

Hey dudeman!
Is data2system included in the latest update?(M4) I just updated but i still have 136 mb of free space. I read that i need to flash a kdz file first and then flash swiftdroid v2.0 M4 through fastboot. Is that true?

I have got the following problem during update from 2.1 to2.3.
I posted new thread for this but no response,
please help me out.

Why did this upgrade didn't work, its still android 2.1
I was updating my gt540 to android 2.3 by this metod,

i enabled USB Debugging by going to Settings>Applications>Development>Enable USB Debugging then OK and connect the phone to the computer,

i installed "MSXML 4.0 SP3 Parser (msxml.msi)"

then i run "KDZ_FW_UPD.exe",

setted "Type" to "3GQCT"

and

'PhoneMode' is set to 'DIAG'

then

i Browsed for the 'Europe Open+fastboot.kdz' file. on desktop
then i clicked to launch software update,,,,,

Everything was going good:D
It took around 10-15minutes to complete,,
phone restarted by itself and i found the same old version nothing new , then i hard reset phone by volume up+search+home= hard reset,
it got reset, but when i found the ui of android 2.1 then i got dissappointed,:c
its still android 2.1 , nothing different found,

eek:during update i was thinking did my phone break or not, did my phone break or not, did my phone break or not........:
i went to setting>about phone
i found this

firmware version = 2.1-update1 :mad::confused::mad::confused:(((((sames as before)))))
kernel version = 2.6.29 lg-electronics@si-rd10-ubld01 #1
software version = gt540-v20a-OCT-95-2010

it was suppossed to 2.3.3
but what left wrong and i lost taskiller and filemanager
but i got lg app advisor, the sims 3.
So tell me where i got wrong, what can i do to upgrade to android 2.3
i followed as dudeman1996 has posted to update,,

Mur4ik from 4pda.ru has ported CyanogenMod 7/Android 2.3.3 to the LG GT540, it's available to download although it's still in the late beta stage so there are very few bugs in it.
Here's the list from the site saying what works and doesn't (I'll update this list as he does):

*Please make sure you read the instructions properly!! People are replying to this post saying the problems they're having when the answer is that they didn't read the post properly. If you are having problems, then refer back to the instructions and make sure you followed the steps EXACTLY as they're written. Thanks! :)

Works:
FM-radio, wired headset, Wi-fi, Bluetouth, camera (video recording 3gp/m4v - it is mp4), 3D-accelerator, GPS, aGPS, sensors, memory card, touch .... well etc.

Does not work:
divx / xvid - codecs (use of the player), wireless headsets, modems, native means of distributing the internet through a tube(native wireless tethering).
Navitel not yet compatible with 2.3! (If navitel is navigation then it works fine!)
No calibration of the screen and do not ask when would be.

Changelog:
SwiftDroid v1.9/CyanogenMod v7.0.0 Full
(+)Updated to the full release of CyanogenMod

@happy990

Read the instructions again. Installing Fastboot alone wont upgrade u to 2.3.3. Read the very first post carefully.

You just flashed a 2.1 fastboot ROM... After that, you have to flash CyanogenMod... Follow the instructions: "Instructions to install CyanogenMod:"

Alternatively there is a KDZ file you can flash which will re-partition the NAND memory on your phone to give you a 150Mb system partition and 233Mb data partition. This will effectively give you "data2system" (i.e. 233 Mb for /data) but you can flash any rom onto your phone. With data2system method quoted above the /system is flashed on the "userdata" partition and the /data on the "system" partition (the two are swopped around). This means for example that you can't flash ZIP updates through recovery.

The KDZ method does not have this limitation as /data is still on "userdata" and /system on "system". I'm using it on my GT540 and it works great. Details:

What class is your card? I've been having problems with an 8Gb class 4 sdcard and could not get it to work with Swiftdroid. I now use a class 6 8GB (from ADATA) and it works without problems. Although there are some reports of people using class 4 cards successfully, other reports (and this is my experience) say you need at least a class 6.

All you did there was flash Android 2.1 + fastboot, you now need to boot the phone into fastboot mode and flash 2.3. It's all in the first post. Read it properly.

I'm pretty sure the europe one will be fine, and the end of the day you are not going to use the 2.1 rom you just need the fastboot extras that are part of that particular rom.

Would be a good idea to copy all your APN details off your phone before flashing, as you will have to enter them manually afterwards.

Hey again,

I managed to to flash to 2.3, all is sweet and good apart from this a APN issue. Before i did anything i got hold of an APN backup app and save the details.

After i flashed the phone, i had trouble connecting to the gmail and browser etc, then relaised i needed to enter the Optus' APN details back in. I did this as per xml file details from the backup. After this i was informed the mobile data was connected, so i tryed gmail, got in with out an issue and it downloaded the Market and missing apps i did not have.

So then i assumed the browser would work, but alas no go. I can connect to the Market and Gmail without an issue but not the web!!!!!

Can someone please assist as i dont know what to do. I will post APN details if need be, just let me know.

Thanks

edit: Disregard this post guys as this noob just work it out.

Thank you so much for this great guide and assistance

Have done a search but came up with nothing. Is. It possible to send multiple messages to my contacts list or select multiple receivers from my contacts in 2.3 cos I can't seem to find a way?

Not sure but phone laptop and card all seem to be playing nice together now lol

Check you havn't started swapper 2 i turned it off at startup (in the swapper options) and once id rebooted the phone it the usb worked perfectly

Restoring back to 2.1:

Connect the phone via fastboot and type:
Code:
fastboot.exe -w
Then type:
Code:
fastboot.exe reboot
(as soon LG logo appear press and keep pressed volume down button and power button) - you'll get download mode, then connect to PC USB cable.

So if I understand this correctly, I am to connect my phone to my pc, then start a command prompt and type the fastboot.exe commands. Then I have to disconnect my phone from my computer and then re-connect when I get 'download mode' before proceeding.

Then flash original 2.1 ROM using KDZ_FW_UPD as normal (but you can do this from now on ONLY with fastboot enabled roms).

Is this to say that I can only flash my phone now to the fastboot enabled Carphone Warehouse 2.1 ROM I installed prior to cyanomod, and can not flash to my O2 2.1 ROM that I had prior to CW ROM?

EDIT: Um, it's just occurred to me that perhaps you mean that the flashing you've described, with the fastboot.exe commands can of course only be done with fastboot enabled ROMs. Yes? Funny what a read back of your own questions can do for you. :D Well, at least I hope that's what you mean. :S

Over and above, well, the above, is it not simply possible for me to connect my phone to my computer and flash to the ROM I want using KDZ_FW_UPD. That is, what is the necessity for using the fastboot.exe commands at all?

(But why would you want to go back to 2.1 anyway? ;))

Because of problems I am having with this cyanomod, namely:

The phone will not turn on USB Storage for me to access the SD card. After clicking the button, the rotating icon just keeps on rotating.
I cannot import all my contacts from my SD Card.
I cannot connect to the internet, which also means anything requiring internet access will not function.
I cannot connect to phone via LG PC Suite to import/export anything.

I haven't even begun to test other things and I'm fed up with it already. I appreciate your efforts here, very much. It's allowed me to play a bit, but really, I'm at the point now where I don't care if I brick this bloody phone. :D
