Yah you're right, it's basically re partitioning the phones storage because the system partition is bigger than the data, this gives less space for system so you have more space for data :D

So dudeman, whats the best rom set up?

Is it Mur4ik Swiftdroid (m5), with the boot.img installed and with data2system?

Btw is data2system necessary as i have a 16gb sd card and i just don't see how data2system will do anything useful for me..

Well it depends on what you want really, I think SwiftDroid v2.0 M5 is the best so far, but some other's want just basic things, speed and battery life, for that I'd recommend SuperFastFroyo.. But M5 is the best all rounder in my opinion.

Data2System allows you to install way more apps on the phone, combine that with your 16GB card and Apps2SD and you have a lot of apps you can install :D

Well, does installing the data2system wipe your phone data, and do many roms ever have a sytem of more than 150mb?

It does, but all you do is make a backup in recovery then restore the backup when you're done.

It works by repartitioning the phones internal memory by flashing a simple kdz. The kdz doesn't have an OS like Android. So all you do is flash that kdz then boot into fastboot, flash recovery back on and restore your backup. Then voilla! You have 250MB for apps :D

So the kdz won't be restored when i restore the back up?

So how do I do this Data2System thing?
and will it affect any updates for cyanogen in the future?

It won't affect any updates (:

Note: If you already have a Data2System ROM installed, let me know as there are different steps needed to take

1. You'll need 3 files:
KDZ Updater
The modified KDZ
The data2system.exe

2. Boot into recovery and make a backup of your phone, as this will erase all data on the phone.

3. Turn the phone off, and remove the battery, SIM and SD card.

4. Hold the 'Volume Down' button and connect the phone to your PC with the USB cable. The screen should now display 'Download Mode'

5. Open KDZ updater and change 'PhoneMode' to 'CS_EMERGENCY', then change 'Type' to '3GQCT'. Then select the '20E_234-150-64.kdz' file

6. Click 'Launch Software Update'

7. The update will now start, the phone will continue to display 'Download Mode'.

8. Wait for it to say 'FINISHED' in the KDZ updater (when the update finished, my phone displayed a blank screen), then disconnect the USB cable and put your SIM, SD card and battery back in.

9. Now boot the phone into fastboot mode (camera+power), the fastboot screen will be blue and have white text displayed on it.

10. Connect the phone to your PC again.

11. Run the data2system.exe file.

12. Boot the phone into recovery and restore your backup.

It's cool :) The person above asked for em, but it's nice for others to have detailed instructions too :D

So should i do all this in this order?
Update recovery
Update to M6
Make a backup
Flash the KDZ thingy
restore

BTW,

I am fully aware the blog isn't working at the moment. For some reason my host cancelled my account and I lost everything. I have an old backup from the 1st of April which I'll be restoring as soon as I get everything sorted with my new host.

Also the site address will change to www.swiftdroid.co.cc. So from now on even if this happens again (which is most likely wont) the site address wont change again. The RSS feed link still remains as http://feeds.feedburner.com/swiftdroid

Thanks! :)

My compy doesnt like download mode on my phone atall.. the pc keeps saying one of the usb devices has mulfunctioned or something..
kdz updater doesnt see my phone atall

We just use the same process as with M5 right? Update from a previous version - copy over to sd card - update from zip and then flash the boot img?

just making sure - as I'm updating a mates phone as well and the M5 files links aren't working anymore on a previous post.

Edit: if I try that way it aborts.

There's no need to flash the boot.img as the recovery completely works this time. So you can install everything by Recovery.

The reason is that the recovery file has a different name since it's an updated version. i haven't downloaded the new version so i don't know the name but i'm guessing it is something like recovery_clockwork_3.2.0.1_swift.img .Check the folder where you downloaded all the fastboot files to confirm the name.
Hope that helps!

Try downloading smart keyboard pro. It has a compact keyboard layout.
If you are using 2.3 gingerbread you can also download the original lg keyboard from here .Download the .zip file copy it to you sd card, boot into recovery and choose install zip from sd card. Then find the LG_IME zip and install it

Is your PC recognising it now?

You don't need to flash boot.img, that was just for M5 cause there was some sort of problem with that. With M6 you can just flash it as normal through recovery. :D
