Root [UPDATED 28/12 - NEW INSTALLER] CyanogenMod 7/Android 2.3.4 Is avaliable for GT540!

How is battery life with RC1?I flashed it yesterday and i had just 12 hours of battery whereas with the previous update i had at least a day with the same use..

Okay ever since 2 days ago, my mobile internet stopped working and i've had random fc's on random things.
such as android market, gmail, root explorer, android system.

How do I fix all this?
Thank you.

That's weird.. Try making a backup through recovery, then reinstalling the ROM through fastboot so it's a clean install. Then in recovery go to backup & restore>advanced restore>select the backup you made>restore data and reboot

My battery life is pretty good. I get about 2 days with moderate usage on a single charge. And I've found that using some themes seem to drain my battery life some more..

Just to let you all know - Mur4ik has added a new update to his twitter...

SwiftDroid v2.0 RC2
Recovery: Deposit Files
Fastboot: Deposit Files

Changelog in original thread on 4pda

Have had it running most of the day and can't find any faults - no fcs yet anyway.

SwiftDroid is a better CyanogenMod or that? what i should better install?

Swiftdroid is the name given to the GT540 port of CyanogenMod, its basicly CyanogenMod for GT540, if you have a GT540 install Swiftdroid, the normal CyanogenMod is not compatable with it.

Anyone tried the bbc iplayer app yet? if I check the market on my phone it doesnt show a download link, and if I check the market on PC it says it is incompatable with the GT540 which I thought was because it is only compatable with 2.2+.

So I searched the net for an apk and the app opens fine, but when I try to play somthing it goes back to the homepage rather than play the video.

I have flash installed from here http://androidforums.com/optimus-gt540-all-things-root/368902-adobe-flash-10-1-a.html here, and I installed adobe air however it doesnt solve the problem, I was just wondering if anyone else has tried it on CyanogenMod 7 and got it working, and if so how.

Mur4ik from 4pda.ru has ported CyanogenMod 7/Android 2.3.3 to the LG GT540, it's available to download although it's still in the late beta stage so there are very few bugs in it.
*Please make sure you read the instructions properly!! People are replying to this post saying the problems they're having when the answer is that they didn't read the post properly. If you are having problems, then refer back to the instructions and make sure you followed the steps EXACTLY as they're written. Thanks! :)

Here's the list from the site saying what works and doesn't (I'll update this list as he does):

Works:
FM-radio, wired headset, Wi-fi, Bluetouth, camera (video recording 3gp/m4v - it is mp4), 3D-accelerator, GPS, aGPS, sensors, memory card, touch .... well etc.

Does not work:
divx / xvid - codecs (use of the player), wireless headsets, modems, native means of distributing the internet through a tube(native wireless tethering).
Navitel not yet compatible with 2.3! (If navitel is navigation then it works fine!)
No calibration of the screen and do not ask when would be.

All Problems & Fixes:
* Performance may still be slightly lower than 2.2.1 (which generally do not affect use).
* Problems with guglapsami (eg voice-search) - the solution is to find and replace to correct the appropriate version - download Voice Search from the Market.
* Problems with memory cards, split into several sections - the output is not used ext2.
* If the card is not connected to a computer - to distort the cable does not work, you are unique, and the firmware is not for you.
* Problems with the battery - have someone normal, who is less who is better than the previous firmware - Out to sit on your preferred firmware.
* Native Android Wi-Fi tethering doesn't work - the solution is to use third-party software (Wireless Tether).
* Loudspeaker doesn't work for some.
* Problem with a decrease in volume after the first call, pick up that you can run music or sound settings move the slider sound multimedia solution:
settings-settings CyanogenMod-sound:
remove all ticks except:
"Note
Settings below apply only when the headphones are connected.
Always point play through the speaker
Notifications
Calls
Alarms "
after this volume does not fall
* Problems with applications, widgets, keyboard solved the transfer of their phone's memory. With the stick, not all working properly and it's not a bug firmware.
* There is a problem with zoom in the camera.
*The camera button doesn't take pictures in the native camera app - to fix this, download this file and extract the contents to your SD Card. Extract the two files and place in the sd card of the phone.
Open Root Explorer and Move the two files from the sd card to /system/usr/keylayout by long press the file and selecting move from the menu that appears then find the folder above and mount the folder as read/write and selecting paste at the bottom of the screen then long press the file again this time select permissions and change the permissions of both files to look like this.

LG GT540 CyanogenMod <--- A link to all the files I used for CyanogenMod 6 + 7 :)

I have a 4GB MicroSDHC Class 4 memory card for the people who's memory cards aren't working. I'm not sure if any other class memory card will work, but I know 100% sure that a 4GB class 4 MicroSDHC card will work in the phone. :)

Make a backup of your 2.1 ROM before you update in case you want to go back to 2.1/you are having problems with 2.3. To do this, flash your phone with the fastboot ROM and install recovery via the instructions below, then go to recovery and make a backup of the current 2.1 ROM to restore back to if you have any problems :)

Make sure you follow the instructions exactly as they're written. As always, with flashing your phone, there's always the risk of bricking your phone. I'm not responsible for anything that happens to your phone because of flashing custom firmware. But I will do my best to try and help you with any problems you might encounter :)

To install this ROM you need to have fastboot enabled on your phone. If you have Android 1.6/2.1 installed from LG, then fastboot is not enabled, if you have Android 2.2/CyanogenMod6 installed from my previous post then you have fastboot enabled so put your phone in fastboot mode (hold Camera on power up) when needed. I will explain how to enable fastboot on your phone (this involves re-flashing/replacing your currently installed firmware):

KDZ Updater CarphoneWarehouse Unlocked.zip - A link to a zip archive with all the files needed to flash Android version 2.1 with fastboot (Carphone Warehouse Unlocked)

KDZ Updater Europe Open.zip - A link to a zip archive with all the files needed to flash Android version 2.1 with fastboot (Europe Open)

Download either version, it doesn’t make a difference, you’re going to be replacing 2.1 with 2.3 anyway ;)

Now, how to flash these versions; I'll explain in detail how to flash the ROM's from starting with backing up.

Instructions to install ROM with Fastboot:
1. Before you start, make sure you backup all your data (If you do not wish to backup your data this step is not necessary) by installing the z4root.1.3.0.apk file onto your phone, then open it and choose 'Permanent Root'. Your phone will root and reboot. Then go to the Market and install 'MyBackup Root', open it and do a backup of your apps and personal data (contacts, sms, call log etc.) Once this is done, go to Settings>SD Card and Phone Storage>Unmount SD Card, a notification in the notification bar should appear saying 'SD Card safe to remove'. Remove the battery cover and remove the SD card and store it in a safe place. Then continue to step 2.

2. Extract the .zip file you downloaded to your computer (e.g. your desktop). Open the folder and install MSXML 4.0 SP3 Parser (msxml.msi).

3. Once that has finished, install LGAndroidDriver_WHQL_ML_Ver1.0_All_Win7.exe which are the drivers so your computer will recognize your phone. Windows XP Users download this driver, extract the contents anywhere (e.g. desktop), right-click on the 'android_usb.inf' file and click 'Install'.

4. Next, open KDZ_FW_UPD.exe
(i) Change 'Type' to '3GQCT' *THIS IS A MUST, THE UPDATE WILL NOT WORK OTHERWISE AND YOU MAY BRICK YOUR PHONE*
(ii) Make sure 'PhoneMode' is set to 'DIAG'
(iii) Browse for the 'V20B_00+Fastboot.kdz' file.

5. Prepare the phone by enabling USB Debugging by going to Settings>Applications>Development>Enable USB Debugging and connect the phone to the computer via USB cable and wait for the drivers to install for the phone. Sometimes the computer still won't recognize the phone, if this is the case, try this: Windows Vista and 7 users press start and type device manager (Windows XP users right click 'My Computer' and click properties, then click the Hardware tab and click Device Manager) then locate LGE Android Platform Modem, right click it and click disable. Accept any warnings that come up. Also, make sure you've disabled Mass Storage Mode on your phone. To do this, go to Settings>Storage>Enable Mass Storage, and untick the box.

6. Click 'Launch software update' and do not use your computer until the update is complete. The update will take roughly 10-20 mins to complete.

Updating from older versions of CyanogenMod 7:
Updating your phone with the most recent version is really easy. There are 2 ways of doing it:
1. Install through fastboot/auto .exe (This method deletes all your data)
2. Install through recovery (This method keeps all your data)

To install through fastboot and erase all your data, all you have to do is put the phone into fastboot mode like you did when you first installed CyanogenMod, power off the phone and hold the camera button all the way in and turn on the phone. Make sure to hold the camera button while the LG logo is on the screen. A blank screen will then show. The phone is now in fastboot mode. All you have to do now is download the most recent .exe file, (link to all versions the higher the version number, the most recent it is) then open it and it'll install the most recent version for you

Now most people want to install through recovery and keep their data. If you don't have recovery installed, check this out. Download the most recent recovery update and copy it to your SD card (link to all versions the higher the version number, the most recent it is). Then boot into recovery by either when rebooting the phone select recovery then okay, or by rebooting the phone normally and holding the home button while powering on, making sure you hold it while the LG logo shows. You'll then be presented with the recovery screen. Use the Vol up and down buttons to navigate up and down the menus, the call button to select an item and the power button to go back a step. Navigate to install zip from sdcard not apply update from sdcard. Now select choose zip from sdcard and select the .zip update, say yes and it'll flash the update for you. When it's done press the power button to go back then the call button to reboot the phone. The first boot after updating will take a while, it may appear to be 'stuck' on the SwiftDroid or CyanogenMod loading screen, but it's not, just leave it for a few minutes and it'll load :)

Instructions to install CyanogenMod:
How to install via recovery:
1. Download the recovery update from either here (MultiUpload) or here (MediaFire)
2. Copy the update to your SD Card (I recommend on the root of the SD Card (not in any folders)
3. Boot into recovery by holding the Home button on power up, or when rebooting the phone, select 'recovery' in the options list.
4. Make a backup of your current version just in case.
5. Navigate to 'apply zip from sdcard'>'choose zip from sdcard' then select the update-cm-7.0.0-GT540-MUR4IK-signed.zip file and flash it.
6. Enjoy! :)

Installing CyanogenMod automatically
1. Download the .exe file from here (MediaFire) or here (MultiUpload)
2. Put the phone in fastboot mode by holding down the camera button all the way and powering on the phone. Make sure you hold the power button while the LG logo is shown on the screen. A blank screen will then appear after a few seconds. The phone is now in fastboot mode.
3. Connect the phone to your computer by the USB cable.
4. Run the .exe program and let it install CyanogenMod 7 on your phone :)

How to install CyanogenMod manually:
Once the update is complete, your phone will reboot, what you need to do is power off the phone and whilst the phone is off, press and hold the 'Camera' button all the way and power on the phone, make sure you hold the 'Camera' button. The phone will display the LG logo and disappear, then display a blank screen. The phone is now in fastboot mode! :D

Now you want to download this file: (MediaFire) or this file: (MultiUpload) and extract it to a folder called 'Android' (without the quotes '') on the C: drive (you'll probably need to make this folder yourself.

1. Now open CMD with administrator privileges (Search for CMD in the start menu and right click on 'cmd' and click 'Run as Administrator' )

2. Connect the phone to your computer via USB cable and wait for the necessary drivers to install. If the drivers can not be found or installed then download this and extract it to somewhere on your PC, then plug your phone into the computer and when it asks to install the drivers, point it to the path where you extracted the drivers to.

3. Then go back to the cmd window and type:
Code:
cd C:\Android
(i) Then type:
Code:
fastboot.exe -w
(ii) Once that's completed, type:
Code:
fastboot.exe erase system
(iii) Once that's completed, type:
Code:
fastboot.exe flash system system.img
(iv) Once that's completed, type:
Code:
fastboot.exe flash boot boot.img
(v) To install recovery type:
Code:
fastboot.exe flash recovery recovery_clockwork_3.0.1.3_swift.img
(ix) Once that's completed, type:
Code:
fastboot.exe reboot
4. Your phone will now reboot with CyanogenMod 7 (Android 2.3.3). The first boot might take longer than a normal boot.

5. You can now re-insert your SD card and go to Settings>SD Card and Phone Storage>Mount SD Card

Original post: SwiftDroid - Android 2.3.2 (Gingerbread) on LG GT540 - 4PDA

How to restore the boot logo's so you can get into recovery:
Thanks to thel2dab for these instructions! :D

1. Download the KDZ updater from here if you haven’t already done so.

2. Download these two files:
French v20a.KDZ
out.kdz

3. Remove the SD card, the battery and the SIM card.

4. Press the Volume Down button and connect your USB cable this will put your phone into download mode.

5. Next you need to open up device manager and go to modems and disable the LG Android USB modem.

6. Now open up the KDZ updater:
a. Check that ‘Type’ is set to '3GQCT' and ’PhoneMode’ is set to 'CS_EMERGENCY'.
b. Then in the KDZ file box browse to and select the French KDZ file and click Launch software update. Wait for it to say finished.
c. Unplug the USB cable before it the phone boots. Then plug your phone back in while pressing the ’Volume Down’ button again, this time the screen will say download mode.
d. Go back to the KDZ updater and check that ’Type’ still says ’3GQCT’ and ’PhoneMode is still set to ’CS_EMERGENCY’
e. Browse to the out.kdz file and click launch software update] wait for it to say finished.
f. Remove the USB cable, put the battery back in and start the phone it will get to the Android boot logo but that’s it.
7. Plug the USB cable back in and go back to the KDZ updater and change ’PhoneMode’ to ’DIAG’
a. Browse to either the Carphone Warehouse KDZ + fastboot or the EuropeOpen KDZ + fastboot and click launch software update
8. When it says finished turn off the phone and boot into fastboot mode (hold ’Camera’ and power on the phone) and install Cyanogenmod 7 (instructions above).

How to easily repartition your phone's memory to allow 250MB for apps (Data2System that works on every ROM):
Note: If you already have a Data2System ROM installed, let me know as there are different steps needed to take

1. You'll need 3 files:
KDZ Updater
The modified KDZ
The data2system.exe

2. Boot into recovery and make a backup of your phone, as this will erase all data on the phone.

3. Turn the phone off, and remove the battery, SIM and SD card.

4. Hold the 'Volume Down' button and connect the phone to your PC with the USB cable. The screen should now display 'Download Mode'

5. Open KDZ updater and change 'PhoneMode' to 'CS_EMERGENCY', then change 'Type' to '3GQCT'. Then select the '20E_234-150-64.kdz' file

6. Click 'Launch Software Update'

7. The update will now start, the phone will continue to display 'Download Mode'.

8. Wait for it to say 'FINISHED' in the KDZ updater (when the update finished, my phone displayed a blank screen), then disconnect the USB cable and put your SIM, SD card and battery back in.

9. Now boot the phone into fastboot mode (camera+power), the fastboot screen will be blue and have white text displayed on it.

10. Connect the phone to your PC again.

11. Run the data2system.exe file.

12. Boot the phone into recovery and restore your backup.

Restoring back to 2.1:
If you are experiencing problems with the 2.3 ROM or just aren't to fond of it, you can restore back to 2.1 using this method (Thanks Djolle for the instructions!):

Connect the phone via fastboot and type:
Code:
fastboot.exe -w
Then type:
Code:
fastboot.exe reboot
(as soon LG logo appear press and keep pressed volume down button and power button) - you'll get download mode, then connect to PC USB cable.

Then flash original 2.1 ROM using KDZ_FW_UPD as normal (but you can do this from now on ONLY with fastboot enabled roms).

(But why would you want to go back to 2.1 anyway? ;))

ClockworkMod Recovery:
You can now install ClockworkMod Recovery to your LG GT540 without reflashing everything again! Just download the .img file from here, put your phone into fastboot mode again (Hold the camera button at power on) and open cmd again and type:
Code:
cd C:\Android
then type:
Code:
fastboot.exe flash recovery recovery_clockwork_3.0.2.8_swift.img
and to reboot:
Code:
fastboot.exe reboot
.

To access recovery, hold the Home button whilst powering on, keep holding it while the LG logo appears, it'll then take you to the ClockworkMod Recovery screen, use the volume up + down buttons to navigate around the menu, the call button to 'click' or 'enter' and the power button to go back. From the recovery menu you can flash update.zip from the memory card and make nandroid backups of your device (a nandroid backup is a complete backup of your phone's internal drive, which you can restore at a later point if anything goes wrong). For more info on what ClockworkMod Recovery can do, do a Google search for 'ClockworkMod Recovery' (link here)

In SwiftDroid v2.0 RC2 "Fastboot: Deposit Files" is ONE bat* file when i run this with connected phone via usb and in fastboot state =nothing happens

I don't know if anyone has noticed this yet but it looks like CyanogenMod 7 R1 fastboot install writes the APN details when you install it now, last 2 times I have needed a fastboot install with it (stupid problems mainly because of what I did) my APN setting have been pre-configured, just a lil heads up, maybe update the OP with it

Hi to all.
How Can I updating from RC1 to Rc2 without loosing data?
Simply with recovery?

Just throgh recovery, download the recovery update, copy the zip to your sd card, boot into recovery, the install zip from sd card, choose zip from sd card and select the update zip file and yes then let it run

Any update when the bluetooth headset issue will be fixed? I think that CM7/android 2.3.4 is great but I live in an area when it is illegal to use cell phone while driving without a handsfree device. I know that Murad doesn't have a bluetooth headset and that there have been many offers to send him one. Is bluetooth still an issue with 2.2?

Thanks,

dr_ot

You can use a wired headset, with the USB. Wireless still does not work, you could still use loudspeaker too. :P
