[Verizon] [KERNEL][4.0.4] LeanKernel 3.10.0 (7/2)

here's a few more screencaps, while running lean1.7.3. I ran Quadrant on the stock kernel, with lean and then with lean capping the speed at 920mhz.

From what I understand, Quadrant isn't properly updated for ICS. I've been using AnTutu Benchmark since getting my GN, and generally score just shy of 7000 clocked at 1350

Are you guys finding the grays are lighter in 1.0.8? Not a prob here but noticeably on mine.

OMG! 1.8.0 is very fast and so smooth!

Can I ask you to link me to the mod download you used for reflective softkeys...I really want this mod and was told about jack straw's thread but I was sure as their we sooo many options. Anyway, just want to mod the softkeys. Sorry to highjack the thread.

just applied this to my roms. I'm using Boot Manager, so it's easy. :p

For the 1st time since 1.6.6exp3 I am running a new kernel (1.8.0) and not reverting back to it.

She seems to be really smooth, fast and without quirks so far? I am not feeling any battery life changes.

Thanks for keeping this up to date. WOW! I can't seem to flash them fast enough :D Time I get one update installed, there is a newer one.

Chiming in, I don't do the score thing, I just notice the phone is more responsive, or has a better overall experience.

I ran 4G for a while today while on the charger. When I grabbed it to place a call I noticed it was pretty warm or hot.

Is this normal 4G or Kernel or ???????????

When flashing a Kernel this AM I got the following message,
"unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]"

Everything went successful but what is that?

is not feeling a battery change a good or bad thing?

I'm guessing in this case it's a good thing, as I think gapi was really happy with battery life on 1.6.6

You'll get that every time you wipe dalvik. Or you should! Maybe you've never noticed it....

Yeah I recall 1.6.6exp3 to be his bread and butter so if he's using 1.8 and likes it than, well, it must rock!

Other Than the Battery,

I will say I am mixed about the phone heat in 4G. I dunno if it is natural, the 1.8.0 vs 1.6.6exp3, or 4.0.2 vs 4.0.3 radios.

I have more comparison testing to do. The top rear of the phone go hot-tish with 1.8.0 & 4.0.3 radio. Now I need to run them in different combos to tell which is hotter.

I ran 4G this AM on 1.6.6exp3 & 4.0.2 radios and it was 50% cooler (still warm to the touch) than 1.8.0 & 4.0.3 Radios.

The whole phone getting warm is interesting. I've had it happen to every Android phone I've ever used (Eris, Inc Bionic, and GN). It's so random I have to think it is task/app related along with an initial kernel flash (it seems to go away once kernel "settles").

I will say with the GN I have experienced this less than with previous phones. Mines always cool to the touch even after using it pretty heavily. The only time I've felt it and thought "hmm this thing is awfully warm" is when I'm nav'ing in the car while streaming Google music or Pandora for an extended period (more than half hour). Even then it is only slightly warm. I do UV and UC the phone though and I know this obviously helps.

I agree that it seems somewhat random. Like maybe an app occasionally gets stuck or something, because I can never seem to reproduce the heat under similar circumstances.

As for using Nav, I live in south FL and have a lot more occasion to use AC than heat in my car, so I have a universal mount right in front of my vent and just aim the vent at my phone when I'm using Nav (or tethering all the way home from West Palm Beach the other day for my wife to set up her wifi ipad).

I'll be doing this this summer. My car mount (from Amazon the $19 CD thingy) is nice for what it costs, but sits in-between 2 vents. You bet-chur-bottom I'll be retro fitting some sort of deflector to push air towards the back-side of the GN :p ahhh I love little projects like those!

Just remember to move it if you have to turn the heat on!

Well, I would be careful there.
I dunno how cold you blow your AC or how close the device is to the vent or, the climate you live in but as a photographer we avoid these kind of sudden temperature changes, like from in front of a vent or cold room and then into the hot outdoors, or in from the winter cold into a warm room. Condensation forms if you know what I mean.

I don't keep my AC on the coldest setting, but also, the universal mount I use puts the phone about 8 inches away from the vent, so the phone doesn't get super cold (especially in the case). It just keeps it from getting super hot when navigating and sitting in the sun. I forgot to say anything about it, but I did actually learn that same thing about cameras/electronics at some point...thanks for mentioning it!
