I like when pictures tell a story. Heavy use today.

I don't know what they did with 4.0.4 but it is BY FAR better on battery. Can't wait for it to be added to AOSP.

Had to flash 2.2.0 :p

ROFL I knew you would not be able to hold out. Don't even try to convince anyone here that you will stick with one kernel for more than 2 days it is fruitless ole chap :D

and where is the screenie of your battery usage showing all the apps and their respective usage?? ehh? ;)

Gonna flash 2.2.0 now. 2.0.1 was killer (2% drain in 7.5 hours!), so I have high expectations to meet...may have to go back to 2.0.1 hehe. I'll give it a few days with 2.2.0 and see how it goes.

Any issues you guys have found so far with 2.2.0, for those who have flashed?

Several posts above ^ ;)

Got about 5 hours less after 3 charge cycles than 2.1.0. I ride kernels hard. Just flashed back to 2.1.0!

Does anyone use non OEM chargers? I only ask because when my wife's OEM chargers broke after 12 hours of purchase of her new phone back in Nov 11, VWZ mailed us its 3rd party charger for free. It charges phones sooo much slower than my OEM and when I charge my phone with it I seem to get better battery life. I haven't tested this scientifically but I was wondering if anyone else has had this experience?

Hmm, guess I'll see how 2.2.0 goes for me.

Hmm interesting theory on the battery/charger. I wonder if the rapid charging doesn't result in as good a charge?

That's what I was thinking, too. It's like the slower charge is the more complete charge!

I've been running notrim5 since it came out. Notrim3 locked up a couple of times but it seems to have been fixed in notrim5. I have never been able to run above 1.35 but now I can run at 1.52 no problems. Have not attempted 1.65 yet but I will today.

I put mine down at 1:00AM @93% and picked it up at 7:45AM @89%.

Extended Battery, Wireless On, B25 & Imoseyon 2.2.0/Interaxtivex, a 4% drop across 7.75 hours.

I guess I need to try sleeping it on 3G but I do run a 3G wireless extender, which I am really happy with if I may add.

Has anyone used Wired Tether with this kernel? I'm pretty sure the kernel supports it, but when I start the app, it immediately tells me that my kernel isn't supported. I even tried switching to Franco Kernel and it says the same thing. Any help would be appreciated :).

PdaNet does. And will run @ zero latency if given the opportunity so it likes 4G very well.

I'll try WT and let you know. Edit, never mind, that app is old stuff, go with PdaNet 3.02

Yeah, I ended up having to use PdaNet, but I don't like the required client software install and preferred the simpler route that Wired Tether provided since all you need is the drivers installed. Also, does PdaNet still block HTTPS sites on the free version? I forgot to test it on my car trip home. I definitely need that capability so I can work and bank from my laptop while on trips.

Thanks.

It's a one time pay & Well worth it. Believe me. Very reliable and stable. The only quirk is if you get interrupted like taking a call, you need to stop the app & restart it.

Yeah, I would pay for it if it didn't require a client install on the PC. I don't think that should be necessary, esp. when your device is rooted.

Can I flash this over 2.0.1?

Yes, you can flash any kernel over any other kernel without wiping or even clearing cache.

Well, I have been running notrim5 for a couple of days now and have oc'd up to 1.65. I have not had one hiccup. It runs smooth and fast. Others are reporting high benchmark numbers but I don't subscribe to that.

@1.65 on iX, I lost a grand total of 2% overnight last night.

Guys, notrim5 is the real deal. You lose smartreflex at the cost of performance (due to throttling) but the trade off for performance to battery life is well worth it.

I'm going to carry on here a tad on PdaNet because of how much I like it, to each his own...

The onetime pay is supporting the Dev's for a job WELL done. I have used this program for more than a year on my OG Droid and its one of the 1st things I got when getting the GN.

The client install on the PC has a VERY light foot print. And the USB drivers are the best concerning the GN. In some Rooting instructions they suggest it be installed.

It is not a resource hog at all. You connect the device and enable tethering, a little icon appears in the tray, you right click and choose "Connect, BAM!

The SMS feature is nice too as when you are tethering and get a text it pops up and you can respond visa the keyboard. You can disable it too.

I have compared it to the Nexus built in wireless Hotspot and found they are both fast but the PdaNet did better in one area.
I run two separate FF browsers showing two GPS tracking devices moving live on the map that are subscribed to two different accounts.
In the wireless hotspot I lose one every once and a while. I have to refresh the map to get it back.
With PdaNet I never lose one. And the phone runs cooler.

And because its charging the battery its not starving for a charge when I disconnect it. And why wireless tether when having a USB cable connected anyway unless you are serving more than one device.

To me, if one shuns PdaNet because of an Andrew Jackson or a little client install, mercy. But to each his own. One of my main concerns with getting a new phone was if PdaNet would work or not.

There is always the Android WiFi Tether here. I messed with it some but found the phones hotspot to be better.

The Quirks:

  • If you stop the app or take a call during the tether you may have to go to the phone and tap "Stop Tethering" and start it again, and go to the tray on the PC and tap "Connect again". I think in 4G this is not an issue but have not taken a call during yet.
  • I experimented with it on my Desktop and I will not do that again. A laptop with a wireless adapter and USB bus is one thing but a Desktop connected to Comcast modem and a Router is another. Curiosity killed that cat.

The reason why I "shun" the client install is because I use tethering on my work laptop too. My work laptop is part of a domain that is very stringent about what software can be installed and PdaNet definitely doesn't make the cut. If I wasn't an admin on it (because I'm a domain admin at work), then I would be screwed. But it's still a hassle to install the software, then uninstalled it again after I'm finished so it's not scanned/picked up when I put the laptop back on the work network. I could just use WiFi tether (which I usually do when I'm around a wall jack anyways), but I prefer to use USB tethering for the reasons you listed; the phone runs cooler and keeps a charge while tethering. Though sometimes it just discharges slowly since 550 mA via USB barely keeps up with cell radio usage.

Now for personal use; yeah, PdaNet is great and I've hardly had an issue with it. It was my first tethering app on my OG Droid too. Then I discovered the Wired Tether app that I linked to and the Wireless tethering app that you linked to (both by the same devs) and it was even more perfect since it didn't require a PC client install and I didn't have to pay to use port 443 (HTTPS). I never had any connection issues with it on my Droid, so I was sad to see that they haven't updated it to work on the G-Nex.

I appreciate your feedback though. I still might purchase PdaNet for personal use, but I still need a better solution for my work machine.

Where can I get this notrim? And what is smartreflex?
