[Verizon] [ROM][4.0.4] AOKP ICS B40/M6/Mods (7/8)

I have to go back to M5 for now. I have an issue. I use a program called GVMyNumber. It forces Google Voice to call my main GV number for outgoing calls. This is significant because this number is one of my free Verizon friends and family phone numbers. Thus, I get free outgoing calls.

Unfortunately, with the addition of the CM9 theme engine or something, it won't call up that software so it loops. I'm back on m5 until I can figure it out. In any event, the holo red is much more developed for m5 anyway.

Edit: I'm trying another dialer (flexdialer) now. We'll see what that does.

That stinks, although M5 is certainly no slouch. Have you reported it in the bug tracker thread @ rootz?

Was your main use of the app (juice defender) to control and schedule automated data connections (3G/4G/WIFI)? If you answer yes, have you ever tried leaving data on ALL the time 24/7? Leaving 4G on 24/7 in poor reception areas is definitely hard on the battery, but 3G is much gentler. If you have decent 4G signal where you are and where you go leave it on all day and see how it does. If 4G reception is poor for you then leave 3G on all day (until you need your 4g blazing speed). Give it a try and a few days experimenting. One day of testing won't cut it

Yes, The main reason i used Juice Defender was to help control battery drainage due to data usage. I'll give your suggestion a try. FWIW, I've never had excellent battery life even with Juice Defender. I guess the term "excellent" is relative. Excellent to me is 24+ hours without a charge with moderate usage. I don't think that's attainable out of today's 4G mobile phones. I usually get 13-15 hours of moderate usage with JD installed. That's what I call acceptable battery life for a 3G/4G phone.
 
Found another gvoice dialer, the one I mentioned above. I'm going to flash 35 again, now. Fingers crossed.

Don't know if this will fix GPS not working, but it's certainly sped up GPS locking onto a satellite for me...

Navigate to "/system/etc". Look fir "gps.conf". Change the name of this file to "gps.conf.bak" or duplicate it so you have a backup in case things go wrong.

Create a new file "gps.conf". (I cut 'n' past the following text into a notepad file on my computer, transfered it to my SD card, and then cut 'n' paste the contents into the original "gps.conf" file.) Presuming you're in North America and the US (typical damn American, assuming everyone lives here :p), put the following in the file:

NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=0.north-america.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=1.north-america.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=2.north-america.pool.ntp.org

I can't find the original guide that I used, but this is pretty close: [Trick] Speed Up Satelite Fix for GPS on Android - xda-developers

If you're not in North America or the US, I think that link tells you how to determine what should go into the "http://" strings above.

There are other values to tweak things that I didn't bother with e.g. accuracy within a specified distance etc. Perhaps someone smarter than me can explain these things.

I just unlocked and rooted my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus last night. I flashed Milestone 5/M5 and everything appears to be working just fine. I'm very confused about the radios though.

Does this ROM have the "new" radios or am I still on the old radios? If I'm still on the old ones how do I install the new ones?

If anyone could clear this up for me I would really appreciate it!

Hi Mike...welcome to the partay!!!!
In regards to radios....radios are separate from this particular ROM. If you have chosen to run AOKP you would want to make sure you create a nandroid (a backup in ROM manager if you didn't know....) then check on your radios. Radios are found in Settings - About Phone. Look under the Baseband Version....
Please pay particular attention to what your phone says it already has....if you have a VZW nexus, here is the link to the entire list and the downloads:

The newest radios are the FC02/FC05 and are based on the OTA for 4.0.4 that VZW is pushing out to the Nexus now.

Download the file that you want, make sure you have already created your nandroid in case something goes weird...and then in ROM manager, install from zip. Select the file you downloaded, clear dalvik cache only when it asks....let it install and reboot....and enjoy the better reception!!!

Had to fix one small typo, you had FC02 in there :)

I can't even begin to tell ya how many issues I had running black Exodus theme. Bagged it months ago because of it. Glad you got it working right again

That's always the first thing I do, find a nice black and white theme. I'm a bore. I had to reflash the rom and Exodus theme minus the inverted market apk. Now everything seems to work.

I do usually put a colored wallpaper on, though.

Does turning off wifi when not in use save battery? I guess it would keep the phone from searching for a wifi hot spot right? I have no wifi at work, so I'm on 3G/4G all day, so even if turning off wifi saves just a little battery it could make a noticable difference over a 9 hour day :)

You'd think it would make a difference, and I'm positive that it does, but I have never seen any discernable difference when comparing battery stats with wifi on or off.

I had quite a few issues with Black Exodus.

I've been running it for a week now. I realized that it has something to do with the way the apps are inverted.

So I flash Black Exodus, reboot, and re-flash the Gapps.

No issues so far.

Additionally, 0422 Gapps had major glitches, Flashed 0429 over black exodus

If you have wifi available and you use it, it'll save some battery. You don't want to have it on if not using it tho.
 
Yeah I've been running no nav bar on LS with LMT for a long time. Just decided to try AOKP again and for the life of me I can't find the nav bar toggle. It's not on the power menu. I'm just getting the Power Off/Reboot/Airplane mode options with the Mute/Vibrate/Speaker across the bottom. Weird.

Edit: Where do I get my Dumba$$ of the Day award??? Must enable it in the ROM menu :D
