[Verizon] [ROM][4.0.4] AOKP ICS B40/M6/Mods (7/8)

Ok, when you are dirty flashing these, are you flashing GAPPS too?

I hate doing that cause I like the inverted GAPPS...and I have to re run all the zippees to get that...

Do I have to flash GAPPS everytime???:rolleyes:

Dirty wipes then flashes require gapps to be flashed every time immediately after ROM flash. Reason? Compatibility. These devs test and publish the gapps they know to work with their version of ROM. Of course you're free to do it however you like, just know that if issues arise then you know what the fix probably will be.

Yup, understand. Ok, so then for each ROM, the GApps they include (whehter the Jan or Feb version) should be used? I have had some trouble flashing the Feb version and then using the invert tools to black out the Gapps.

Thoughts there?

I am on 24 as of two days ago and have noticed that my shortcut buttons disappear. Anyone else?

Stock launcher? Nova?

Do they randomly disappear, only after a reboot, etc..?

What mods are you running if any?

Whatever gapps the dev recommends to flash with x.x version of ROM I do it. Not only do gapps vary by date (like you said Jan or Feb), but it seems each dev includes or doesn't include specific gapp apk's within that gapps package. Maybe this is or isn't true idk all that much about how gapps are packaged and distributed.

I've never used the inverted gapps so I can't give advice on that. I would make sure the dev who is creating the inverted gapps "tools" states that it is compatible with the particular version of gapps you are flashing. With the development of this phone going at breakneck speed, incompatibilities have to exist I guess.

I may be missing a setting or something so feel free to hammer me for being blind.

In the vehicle cradle I have a 2A power source connected. I have the phone set to never time out when charging.

Well it does not time out but it still dims and I want it to not dim.
When in Navigation it does not dim (nice) and I want that across the board when plugged in to a power source.

I know there are apps out there but does not AOKP have this feature? Shouldn't it?

Thanks

humm there should be a setting for that and if there is not just pull down the notifaction bar click on settings button and turn your brightness when you plug it in

All I can find is:

  1. Settings/Developer options/Stay awake (Screen Never sleeps while charging)
  2. Settings/Display/Sleep (with the usual options from 15 seconds to 10 minutes.
  3. In Navigation/Settings/Screen Dimming/ Screen dims between instructions to conserve power. (This works fine when disabled but only while navigating)
So, basically:

  • If the phone is plugged in it will dim at the time setting selected.

  • If the phone is not plugged in it will dim at the time selected and then blackout within a second or two.

I want the option to have it NEVER dim or sleep when plugged in. It says never sleep in the developer options setting but it dims! Ugh!

We need the control yes?

So I guess you set it to 10 minutes in setting> display> sleep right since that is the longest option? And when you do, after 10 minutes it will dim, BUT still remain on because you have set the developer option to "stay awake" correct? I don't see a way around the dimming unless by 3rd party app maybe?

Well this looks like the ROM for me. Flashed build25 and leanKernel last night and it's running well (even at 1.35GHz).

A thousand thanks to jbdan for all the updates to the thread!

Iv'e never themed a ROM before though and my first attempts aren't going too well... I flashed MNML over Black Exodus (which were apparently confirmed as working well together on xda here).

...Looks pretty sweet, by the way. ;) ...

Anyway. For all my GNex's new bells and whistles, I notice after flashing the themes that gmail is missing. This has me wondering if the themes aren't "killing" Gapps. If I re-flash the ROM and Gapps then reboot, gmail is back. Install the themes then reboot and gmail is gone. :confused:

Here is the progression I've taken:
Code:
Reboot to recovery
-wipe cache partition...
-Wipe Dalvik Cache...
-format /system...
-install ROM...
-install gapps...
-fix permissions...
-reboot...
Reboot to recovery
-install themes...
-reboot...

Any thoughts? TIA :D

I loved Nitroz's Exodus theme it looks really nice, but by-golly I've had issues every time I've flashed it. I got tired of the frustrations and stopped using it. The one that bothered me the most is that it modifies the auto-brightness setting back to stock, never saw anyone complain of this except me, go figure :rolleyes:

Every time I've "fixed permissions" I've run into trouble....because of that I haven't done it in forever.

In your progression steps you laid out, is this your method of doing a complete wipe? To me, what you've stated is a dirty wipe. Are you doing this through ROM Manager app?

If I wanted to start from a clean slate (which is what I do for 95% of my flashes), I would do as follows for flashing a new ROM, gapps, a kernel, and a theme:

Code:
* dnld ROM + Gapps and put on sdcard
* dnld any other mods/kernel and put on sdcard
* reboot into recovery via power menu (or rom manager if you don't have a custom power menu
* backup
* factory reset/wipe data
* wipe cache partition
* under mounts and storage format system
* wipe dalvik cache under advanced
* flash ROM then immediately after flash Gapps
* reboot and let it boot up to your homescreen
* reboot into recovery
* wipe dalvik cache under advanced
* flash custom kernel
* reboot and let it boot up to your homescreen
* reboot into recovery
* wipe cache partition and dalvik cache
* flash theme
* reboot

ymwv this is just how I do it.

Thanks for the response! Hmm... I seem to recall someone here stating troubles with the "fix permissions" command. Maybe it was you!

I was using CWM, never actually wiping data/factory reset. I kind of figured starting fresh would ultimately be what I'd have to do. Just hoping for another way. Ahh well. Gonna try a couple more ideas, If it's a no-go, I'll definitely follow your process. Thanks!

Yeah it was probably me lol

GL! and post what your end result is :)

This would be a nice option for the ROM eh?

Getting ready to go from M3 to B25. I see there is new GAPPS. I like the inverted Gapps.

Can I get the inversion again? How?

Thanks

Now that I have b25 installed.

Should I consider the installing the lean kernel?

Any conflict with the lean kernel and B25?

Is it difficult to do, or is it just a matter of flashing from the SD?

Just download it and flash it like a ROM in CWM. Only wipe dalvik cache then flash kernel.

If you want to revert to original kernel you're on, then reboot into recovery, wipe cache partition and dalvik cache, then flash ROM followed by gapps. Reboot and data is intact and you have your original kernel. Or make a backup before flashing the kernel and you can restore it either way.
