[Verizon] [ROM][4.0.4] AOKP ICS B40/M6/Mods (7/8)

Is Roman hard at work right now this very evening cookin' up a surprise for us junkies? B29.4 hmm..... :)

So here's Viper with another question for you guys =)

But just curious if any of you guys use any AOKP themes or mods that would basically be an overlay, like things such as glossy softkey buttons and status bar, etc... I'm just curious to see what it'd look like, but in your guys' experience, does it affect any other performance or anything like that? Or is it purely cosmetic? Also it's just flash in CWM and good to go, right?

Thanks in advance! I know I ask a lot of questions, so sorry lol

You can ask 1,000 questions it wouldn't matter to me :)

I'll try to answer. Are you referring to any specific mod/s? Which ones if so?

Typically something like you're talking about won't do a thing to performance. Transparencies....well that is a different story.

What mods can do if not properly done is bork something. Could be totally minor like making a white spot where there isn't supposed to be one. Could be worse like messing up your power widgets. These are just hypothetical examples.

That is why we have CWM, to backup and restore! Do a backup and test out a mod. If you like it your golden, if you don't or it messes something up then you can restore your backup. I make backups all the time because I'm trying every mod/kernel/rom out there. I think I have about 65 backups....need to start deleting most of them :D

Lol thanks! And yeah I was specifically talking about NateModz ICS Gloss Theme (not sure if I can link here).

Also at the very least, see if I can get some reflective softkeys going as opposed to the flat ones. The only problem with that one that (me being ultra-cautious) worries me is that it has a weird install method, where I'd have to use an app called ZipThemer, even though it's a regular .zip file like every other rom/kernel/mod/everything lol

Go for it NateMZ makes quality mods. I've never used zipthemer, but I'm going to assume (but am probably wrong) it's similar to metamorph (which I've used extensively). Should be just fine, especially since you've already made your backup in preparation for this new mod flash....right! :D

Exactly! haha

If that is the case, however, should I use it, since they say Metamorph is acceptable as well, or can I just flash in CWM? For example, for the NateMDz mod, can I just flash it after making a backup and have everything run smooth?

WOw he did throw up B29, although looks like some kinks. 4.0.4 for the masses!!

edit: General consensus is custom lockscreen options will cause FC's. Take a look here. I might sit tight until b30 it ought to be killer!

If it says zipthemer or metamorph than you must use those programs. Unless of course they also include a flashable .zip and state so.

Is there a comparison chart or list of changes/improvements/fixes in 4.0.4 someplace?

I'm going to have to wait. It pretty emphatically says no dirty flashing on this one, and I don't have time for a full wipe and re-setup, between my MIL visiting and schoolwork stuff.
