[Verizon] [ROM][4.0.4] AOKP ICS B40/M6/Mods (7/8)

Not what I meant :) you can't go from a 4.0.3 ROM to a 4.0.4 ROM without wiping, regardless of it still being AOKP

Teehee. I know. That's why I'm waiting for B30 to drop. But then I'll have to hope that this theme gets updated quickly. I like it a lot

Once again, RomanBB knocks it on out of the park with this. I'm on 29 with the popcorn kernal @ 1420 mhz. A pretty sweet setup.

I already had flashed the 4.0.4 radios from the leaked OTA but not the bootloader. I just did a clean flash of b29 based on 4.0.4 source and it seems to be running fine but I am not sure if I should have flashed the bootloader and/or radio (I.e. did the radio change?) and is the radio different or the same as the leaked OTA? Just want to make sure I'm running the latest and greatest radios and bootloader.

Thanks in advance!

Well two bad bugs I have found. With the LCD pixel density changed to 241 which was working.flawlessly in b28 doesn't properly scale text size. And the touches seem to miss a lot more than normal. may have to flash back to b28. Where do I report these bugs?

The radio will not drop until VZW pushes the OTA. You're running a 'leaked' 4.0.4 radio. As far as the bootloader there are mixed emotions about it. Personally, unless specifically told to change it by a dev, I'd leave it be. Nothing wrong with changing it though, personal preference.

4.0.4 kernel source is still not available atm, but that doesn't make much difference for those who run custom kernels. Although, those custom kernel devs will soon update their work as well.

Yeah I didn't ever change the bootloader, just the radios. I'm sure there are a lot of people waiting anxiously to see if newer radios are released with the ota once it lands, given the reports of it not addressing some of the reported signal issues. Time will tell on that I guess.

I re-flashed to see if it was a flashing issue but I'm still missing some letters not registering when I type and that's annoying (especially when this update was supposed to address multi-touch issues). And it looks like the text size thing is particular to the good mobile app. Strangely, the app in 4.0.3 showed font size settings whereas in b29 good just shows "small", "normal" etc. Weird.

*edit* actually the text size thing affects Gmail, too. I had 11.5 messages listed in the Gmail inbox, but now only 9.5. hrm...

I think B30 is going to be very nice. Bet it's out tomorrow some time :)

I think I figured out the LCD bug. For sh*ts and giggles, I tried LCD density 220. The number of visible Gmail and good messages in the inbox matched what I saw with 241 on b28. BUT, I noticed the layout for Gmail matched the 240 setting (e.g. it was in tablet mode). I wonder if its off by one somehow and 241 on b29 is really 260? And 220 is really 240. Gonna check themanifest to be sure and see if 240 acts like 241 with the layout being phone but the same real estate as 240.

*edit* Nope build.prop value is correct but LCD density 241 is NOT the same from b28 to b29...must have been something in the Google source that changed...bummer is I liked the font sizing and real estate with 241, and to get it about the same I have to use 220, but dislike the tablet mode of.apps like Gmail :(

Ok, so here's what I'm talking about. Strangely enough, the messenging app is unaffected. Gmail and Good Mobile Messenger are both affected, though.

Notice in the attached side-by-side picture the messages are longer in b29, but the notification area is the same width and the gmail header is the same width as is the footer. Something subtle must have changed in 4.0.4 to cause this. Not sure if it's a bug or just something they've "fixed" or what. I'll report it in the AOKP thread on rootzwiki though.

Anyone else notice this with b29 / 4.0.4 with a custom LCD density?

Do these settings backup and restore in a nandroid?

Yes they do keep in a restore. I keep the screen shot on my sdcard so I can always refer to it in case I forget lol when I switch ROMs and do a complete wipe.

Here are latest revised settings: (ymwv, play with it, monitoring the raw and filtered values in different lighting aka in the car and set it up to your preference. It's fun!)

Is there any way to backup ROM options when doing a full wipe? Ti Backup takes care of my apps, but I'm not sure how, or if, I can backup Android/ROM settings.

Which ROM settings?

You can backup things, like email settings, but I don't recommend it. Especially changing builds (like 4.0.3 to 4.0.4).

Sadly, just back up your apps and do the rest the manual way.
