Personal choice... And of course it depends on what you are using your phone for. Biggest reason why I have stuck with this ROM is that it is pretty minimal... Meaning that they are fewer choices of themes, extras etc as it is mostly just stock, but it also just runs... And runs very quickly. Anything I want to add, like inverted apps, circle battery mods or toggles I have with other add ins.... And I am getting more than a days worth of use out of it! Everyday! Personally I like that all the extra add ins from other roms don't have to be turned off for me to use just core apps and look.

Is it pretty smooth? I've found that I've been making my decision of ROM lately based on this. CM10 was pretty darn smooth. On BlackBean v6 and it's not on the same level as a stock (rooted) ROM or CM10.

I would say yes, smoother than any of the other roms I have tried, and just closer to STOCK... Very buttery! Here is what I am running....

Jelly Belly 9.3
Leankernel 4.5exp1 230-everything set stock except that I use interactivex governor.
Notification Toggles-an app from GPlay (and set as a system app so I have access to gps and 4G toggles, etc.)
Inverted Gapps from Justunbean and Tun_SD

Other than that... Just core apps and a couple of games... And SwiftKey.

This is how I like my ROMs. Clean and simple. How do you set Notification Toggles (or any other app) as a system app? TIA

Go in to titanium backup, the middle tab where all your apps are listed... And hold down on the notification Toggles app, and convert to system app is one of the choices at the bottom of the list...

Warning: this is not recommended for any other apps! I am only saying it will help this one, per the direction in the app!

So I think I did something stupid. I installed JB 9.3 using Rom Manager. Now I don't have gapps installed and do not know how to boot into recovery. The phone has no way of knowing what my gmail account is. Can someone help me?

Thanks.

Best thing to do is turn your phone off, and then hold both volume buttons and the pwr button, and go into recovery by selecting bootloader on the screen... Use the volume keys to move the menu and the pwr to select... Hopefully you can just start all over.

Make sure when you go into recovery you run a factory reset... DO NOT format your sdcard/memory!
And then just install the rom and Gapps... Reboot and let settle, type in Gmail access, etc.

Go back into recovery and install mods..
All done!
Good luck!

Clean flashed 9.3 a couple days ago and it's settling in. It's super smooth and I've only had one weird bug:

Today my data was crazy slow. I did a speed test and it was like 100 kbps. I made sure no apps were downloading anything and everything seemed normal. Everything went back to normal after a reboot though and my speed were back over 20 mbps. Weird.

Changelog
9.4 (md5: aa40396d32aa0e8148988b639a4b1203)
fixed scaling of boot animation (takes up full screen now)
fixed issue with wifi <-> data connection handoff
cleaned up a lot of things
updated to latest supersu
added in elements from android 4.2
several changes for the upcoming 10.0 release (pure android 4.2)
minor tweaks for performance
use my latest 11/04 Gapps! (md5: 4322320aa063524d00acac4ca4dba5a5)

Dirty flashed 9.4 over 9.3 this morning and only a couple bugs to report:

The keyboard isn't automatically correcting misspelled words, even easy ones. When I type "mrning" it won't auto correct to "morning". I have the auto correct setting set to very aggressive.

Nav bar touches aren't responding very well. I'll click back/home/recents like 6 times before the phone recognizes it. It doesn't happen every time, but maybe 20% of nav bar touches go this way.

I'll probably clean flash later toady and see if it elimates the bugs. My guess is a clean flash will fix it since 9.4 integrated some elements from Android 4.2.

EDIT: Clean flash fixed the keyboard. The whole ROM is running much smoother now too, including the nav bar.

So I cleanly flashed 9.4!

It's great!

Everything is working. I did run into a problem but that was a kernel tweak that went bad. After overcoming that, it's perfect.

Can't wait for pure Android 4.2!

I will be picking between this and AOKP.

Edit: This entire post was typed with the new built-in swipe-like keyboard. I like it but am still getting used to it. :D

This ROM continues to be the freshest room for me. I'm a long time user of AOKP, but they haven't yet fixed Google Play Movies so here I stay. The only thing I miss is the built in toggles. But Jake makes one heck of a ROM!

A couple of questions please. I normally backup using titanium then I reboot into recovery. Then wipe, factory reset, wipe, cache, wipe, dalvik cache. Then install JB then gapps then reboot.
I will then restore my missing apps and data only. Then phone log, and SMS.
1. Is that the best way?
2. How do I restore my emai account? I have MSN and 2 imap accounts that I have to redo every time.

I am installing 9.4 as we speak.

I look forward to every upgrade. Thank you.

Are you using built in email app to setup your email accounts? If so, back it up and then restore it.
What's a built in toggle?
It is a series of icons that are typically found in the notification pane at the top. Tap on the Wi-Fi icon and it toggles it on or off.

I am using the app from GPlay called Notification Toggles for my toggles in the notification pane... Works great.

Unfortunately for me, I have about 12 email addresses to set up... Every time I flash. I also wish there was an easier way.... But find too many bugs when I tried to restore the email app with data since that is a system app... So I have just gotten used to adding them back in. But if other people are having luck with it, I may try again!

I didn't know people were having problems with email. Guess I should say that I have never used the Stock Android Email client. If it is causing issues for people, then I recant my advise.

P.S. I like that app for toggles but it isn't quite as powerful and elegant as other ROMs' solutions. Having it built in is buttery. Having Google Play Movies is, however, for me, better.

I think for me the reason I ended up using it is because I CAN add it as a system app... That way everything functions just like the toggles in AOKP which is what I missed the most.... But thank goodness for Android that to each his/her own!!!

I do use the built in email because I use my corporate emails AND some of my business email addresses through it, but 85 percent of my email time is spent in Gmail...

Since I installed 9.4 I am getting white signal bars and Wi-Fi bars Instead of blue ones
Also my Google plus keeps saying server connection not available I have uninstalled and reinstalled it alreadyand reinstalled it but I am getting the same message any ideas thank you

I got this the first time... But restarted into recovery, clear dalvik and fix permissions, and reboot. I did that twice... And now it works...
Good luck!

The G+ connection issue is most likely a symptom of the white signal bars (not being connected to Google servers). Try ryan's fix for getting the blue bars back and that should fix the G+ issue.

Which item restores the email accounts? I have tried several individual items such as email, accounts etc but none restores just the email accounts. A complete restore does but it causes other problems. Thank you.

That's a good question. For me I restore the exchange services and email... Both are system apps. Sometimes the email restore works and sometimes it fcs other stuff... But I have never had an issue restoring exchange services...
The next rom update I will give it a try and see what happens... And if I can restore the account info... Or maybe tomorrow morning... Lol
