[Verizon] [ROM]JDX (formerly Jelly Belly) AOSP+ - v15 (7/28)

One annoying thing (not the fault of this particular ROM) is the 'nesting' of 0 file systems that occurs with each install of android 4.2+. I about ruined my phone ridding myself of the mess multiple installs had made of my phone's system (like I said I'm OCD!). I installed the latest CWM (6.0) because I thought that was supposed to remedy this situation but it just happened again with this install.

How do I prevent this?? How are you guys fixing it without wreaking havok on the phone (as I did 2 days ago)?

I know you are probably really attached to CWM recovery...believe be i understand because I was the same way until about 3 days ago. lol. Here is how you fix your problem. Download and app called gooManager from the play store. Open the app and push on the three dots in the top right corner and look for "installOpenRecoveryScript" and push on that. It will install the latest version of TWRP recovery. Not only does TWRP have a ton more features than CWM...it fixes your 0/0/0/0/0/0/0/0/0 problem lol. Im not bashing Koush's work either...he has been a pioneer in custom recoveries for android...but i went to TWRP...and i cant go back lol.

It does. Mine says launcher 4.2.1

Found it on TBU. I've never noticed that option. Just backed up. Thanks.

So - you guys that use TBU to restore apps, when the phone asks during setup if you want to allow Google to backup your apps - I suppose I should be checking no because once I say "Yes" and it restores everything anyways. This is the reason I've never actually restored from my backup.

I use Google to back up and restore. I then always do a clean install regardless of the ROM version. I use TBU to restore SMS, Phone Log, Launcher, my MSN account, my two imap email accounts.

I have it now down to about 30 minutes.

I'm guessing it won't reverse "damage done" regarding the precious nesting will it? If not, what is the best method for cleaning it.....or should I bother?

no it wont reverse damage done...but it will keep you from adding to that bottomless pit of 0 folders. What i did was just merge them...but that took awhile. I guess If you want everything back to as clean as possible you could make a nandroid, backup all of your important media (TBU files, pics, etc) and unroot via wugs which will bring you all the way back to ICS 4.0, reroot, install the latest version of TWRP from the start, and restore your backup and all of your apps. It probably wouldnt even take that long actually. But if you want the easiest most automated way to do it...thats what i would do.

I will do that on the next flash.

Yes, say "No" to allowing Google to backup your apps.

To make TiBu even easier to use after a clean install:

Titanium Backup>Menu>Create "update zip"...

This allows you to create a zip file of TiBu. I put in the same folder as my SuperWipe.zip, JellyBellyxx.zip, gapps.zip.

Boot into recovery, make backup, wipe all then flash SuperWipe, JellyBelly, gapps and TiBu. (A very easy process using TWRP's zip stacking feature.) When you reboot, TiBu will already be in your app folder so it's easier to restore.

Speaking of restoring, I used to use SMS Backup, but I've found AppExtractor to be better for SMS and Bluetooth restores.

Optional/Advanced:
Using a file manager, move all files to the sdcard/0 folder

The reason for this is that 4.2 incorporates multi user support... So one user is sdcard/0 the next user would be saved in sdcard/1 etc... But every time you flash the old recovery starts over again at /0/0/0/0.....etc.
Good luck!
This part confuses me and makes me nervous to play with. Using Root Explorer I see all the same files in the following locations:

/sdcard
/storage/sdcard0
/storage/emulated/0
/storage/emulated/legacy

Are any of these folders safe to delete or should I just leave them alone?

These should be left alone. It appears they are all "copies" when in fact they are "shortcuts/system generated" files.... FYI... These are simply the way that the Android Os keeps compatible with previous file and app versions... In other words... Yeah they stay there. I have the same file system setup on mine, and it's working flawlessly.

But that info is simply what I have read... I did a completely clean install of TWRP and 4.2 so I have not had any of the 0/0/0 nesting issue.

I'm getting a ton of random reboots.

Just want to make sure everything is up to date so we can help....

Bootloader is Jelly Bean?
Recovery is brand new?
You installed 11.0 and the 12/01 Gapps from jakeday only on a clean install?
Then separately are you installing/running any mods?
Did you restore anything from TIBU?

Sometimes all it takes is a reboot to recovery, wipe dalvik and fix permissions... And then you are good... As long as the rom and gapps are the correct versions and you have a good download. MD5s were okay?

Good luck!

Thanks Ryan. Fortunately I followed your advice to upgrade TWRP before flashing so I never experienced the 0/0/0 nesting problem.

I too used to use SMS Backup/Restore app, but then realized it wasn't saving MMS (pics and vids). I've been restoring "Phone/Messaging Storage (SMS/MMS/APN)" data in TiBu since. Yes, it's a system app, but I haven't had any issues since I started using it a few months ago.

Having way too many random reboots (no mods). Did a full wipe of everything. Planned on reverting back to 4.1 but decided to give it another shot. Using the 20121201 Gapps.

Just fixed permissions, wiped dalvik and cache. We will see if that improves anything. I was having AT LEAST 1-2/hour.

Anyone else having this issue? Any one fix it?

New gapps.... 20121202..the 12/1 gapps was causing fcs and was missing the settings in several apps like chrome etc...
Check goo for jakeday stuff.... Or my Dropbox in the OP.

Edit...sorry, wrong date. Gapps is 12/2 for toro.

I am not having any reboots, but I am also using lean kernel... And now there is a new Gapps... Like twin said, we're there any apps plus data that were restored maybe? Otherwise...

There is a new Gapps, which you can typically dirty flash... So boot to recovery, wipe dalvik, install rom and gapps... Reboot. Reboot back to recovery and install kernel, and mods... Reboot again... Let settle.

Though rare, I still wake to the sound of a reboot (message notifications replaying despite no new messages). Yesterday it happened once and last night once. A huge improvement over the day before (after all of Ryan's suggestions).

I am not running lean though that is my next step. Last time I ran lean I wasn't happy with it. Is there a place to get the stock kernel if I decide to go back (without a full reflash)?

Yes absolutely... Here is the link:
Jelly Belly kernel 11.x

And I will upload to my Dropbox if you would prefer... Check the OP for the link.

I am glad to hear that things have settled down. Have you been able to identify what if anything is going on when it reboots? Also, what Launcher are you using... Apex, nova, stock..? Also... I think I already asked this, but are you already using the new bootloader and radios as well? Just curious.
Glad it's working!

Launcher is stock. Radios are JB. Bootloader is a good question.....I had flashed the new one but also in order to stop various problems had used Wugfresh to take me back to 4.0.4 and then rerooted and reflashed. Maybe I no longer have the correct bootloader.

Is there a way to check or should I simply reflash? All I have is the .IMG file and I can't remember how the heck I got that installed. Is there a .zip of the current bootloader around?
