[Verizon] [ROM]JDX (formerly Jelly Belly) AOSP+ - v15 (7/28)

I flashed my first JB rom today, it was 2.2. I've gotten everything all set up and it's running well. Not as snappy as an AOKP rom for example, but similar to how my phone was stock. Got a few force close problems with apps but an app clear data fixed them all. 4G, 3G, wifi, SMS, MMS, phone are working normally. Google Now (voice search) is the best I've seen on any phone. I can talk completely normally, no slow or over enunciatiing like it was on all my 4.04 ROMS. Haven't had time to build up any cards yet.
My experience after going back to AOKP was like everything is in slow motion. JB is much faster in every way, but I sometimes forget each phone and user is so very different.

What did you do/use to uninstall it? Every time I try with TiBu the screen freezes up
I just uninstalled it with root explorer...ehh maybe I just deleted it with root explorer. Either way, remove the one installed with root explorer :p

Good Morning Jelly Beaners! :D

You know, JBDan, I'm reading the comments on that DSP zip and a lot of people are logging it as a fail. I'm interested in what the consensus is in here on it... especially the 1.9-2.2 dirty flashers.

Almost ready to flash 2.2, waiting on the green light! :)

EDIT: From Jake Day, the Jelly Belly developer -

"2.2 has some improvements over 1.9 and a few things were tweaked to enhance performance, but if you're happy with 1.9 there's no problem staying there."

:D
Really? I haven't been over there today I'll check it out. Using it right now and enjoying the equalizer. Working 100%

But I LIKE being on the bleeding edge. :D

Oh well, since I'm just starting on JB I guess I'll take safe baby steps for now. Wiping and flashing now.
I knew you were a safe player :)

I will be honest, my battery life is less than stellar on 1.8. Taking a hit over stock. (Although it could just be calibration is off. Will let it run dead today to see)
Make sure you're getting a deep sleep. Download cpuspy free from market. Open it. GO to settings and reset timer. Turn screen off and set your phone down for 5-10 minutes whichever you'd like (longer the better but 30 minutes is long enough). Open it up and see what it is doing. It should read in the ~90% deep sleep. If not your phone isn't sleeping properly and is probably caused from the JB gps/map awake issue. My battery life on JB is about the exact same (maybe a tocuh better) as it was on my tweaked out underclocked franco aokp b40.

Good morning sir!

I don't see any comments on rootz so I assume you read about fails on xda? Take them with a grain of salt :p

It works el perfecto for me ymmv. I dnld'd, removed the dsp that is in 2.2 with root explorer, flashed the zip I linked to on xda, reboot, voila!

Well JB DSP works great now...but is there any reason why flashing that mod would decrease performance? I flashed and there's now a noticeable lag that wasn't there before which I know makes no sense...maybe just a bad boot?

I can't imagine any reason no. Have you rebooted? Maybe just some weird coincidence? Since you had to reboot to flash it in cwm/twrp maybe give it a minute? Or have you done the gps/lock fix yet to sleep your GN like a baby? My phone is as fast as fast can be after the DSP flash

I flashed the zip available for Awesome Beats and it works great. I had to lower the levels a bit and enable compression to stream Bluetooth in my truck.

Seems fine now. Maybe just needed time to settle after boot

Good morning to you, too!

I haven't removed anything from /system in awhile, so advise me if this procedure is wrong:

(Edits are in bold)

Download 2.2, gapps 7-4-12 (proper) and new DSP Manager to the internal memory.
Boot into CWM

Wipe cache, dalvik
Flash 2.2
Flash gapps (Proper)
Reboot, stabilize
Root Explorer, rename DSPManager.apk to DSPManager.old (or move it, whatever)
Boot back into CWM
Flash new DSP Manager
Reboot

Did I miss anything? :)

EDIT: Also, JBDan, if you could point me to this Lean Kernel everyone's raving about, I would be most appreciative!

First I would see if the DSP that comes in 2.2 works for you. Open it and enable it and go into the equalizer and adjust. I doubt it will work and will FC on you, but check it out.

If it does FC after messing with it a bit, then yes follow your steps except that you would need to dnld the DSP fix first as your first step :p

As far as renaming to .bak and .old, I know people do this as a safe way to get back what they rename. I've never done this so I can't advise you there. I just delete things. I can re-flash the ROM if I need something. The ROM doesn't need DSP.apk to work and remember it already has the Google built in equalizer when your streaming your Google play music and you go to settings. I only did it to test and see if it worked so those having issues and who like DSP could have a known fix. gl!

Whatever happened to the talk about the JB "no nav bar" mod? I thought that was in the works.

sneakking is head project designer on that discussion and I haven't seen him post anything on the matter. I did point him to the inverted gapps ROM on xda so awaiting his reply and advice forward on the fullscreen mod

Very good, thanks for the sanity check.

Yeah, that was kind of a given that the new DSP was already on the phone. I should have put that in as a guide for lurkers and readers. In fact, I think I will.

button savior dev is really dragging his feet getting an update out, looks like he's been working on a smart task bar project, so may be preoccupied, i have already reminded him once, and may again soon

as far as the inverted gapps, everything i've seen is for the gsm version unfortunately....but if someone has a vzw version i'd be happy to try it

Thanks for the update.

I posted a while back about the Transcend ROM @ the XDA. It has blacked out gapps and might be something you'd be interested in
