[Verizon] [ROM]JDX (formerly Jelly Belly) AOSP+ - v15 (7/28)

Good morning folks!

So this JB Bootloader: you just flash it in CWM / TWRP and let 'er rip? Does it wipe anything, or does it just reflash the fastboot img?

And then you reboot or something? I have decided that - now with AOSP out - there is no way I'm going back to ICS. No way. So, in going all the way I'll flash the JB bootlader so I'm ready for AOSP when it hits.

While we're talking TWRP, is that flashed the same way? In CWM? I'm sorry, Koush... I've used CWM for 2-1/2 years now, but I cannot STAND the sensitivity if this thing on the Nexus. Takes forever to select anything because I keep overshooting it!

Just getting my early morning ducks in a row here for some AM flashing :)

THANKS!

EDIT: I found a pretty cool tip on Rootzwiki if your Nexus isn't short on storage space (probably isn't) and you want to speed up your TiBU backups: disable compression.

Preferences --> Compression --> No Compression

:)

Just curious, so did Wug's take care of everything for you? i.e. you just hook you Gnex up to your pc and could root and unlock it with Wug's? Didn't have to the it the old manual way using fastboot and all that (guess that is best way to describe it :D )

Which image is for the USA VZW GNex?

When I had to flash all the way back to stock and start over, Wug's Toolkit did it all. You select what you want to do, it'll tell you when to connect your phone to the PC, and it runs the ADB/fastboot commands automatically for you.

The issue, though, is this: IF you flash all the way back to locked stock, it will take you clear back to 4.0.2 and you'll get an OTA notification. DON'T DOWNLOAD IT! Select "Upgrade Later" and continue the process of unlock, root, flash CWM, etc. THEN you can ROM, flash a nandroid backup, etc.

The flashable JB bootloader can be found here on the OP:

[ROM] Jelly Belly v2.6 - 07/09/2012 - [JellyBean] [4.1.1] [AOSP/Hybrid] - It's all about speed! - [VZW] Galaxy Nexus Development - RootzWiki

READ the first 3 posts thoroughly - if not the whole thread! ;)

And check your MD5s!

Yep, just flash and boot. No wiping.

Yep, again, just flash and go. It's a terrific recovery, far better and more natural to manage than CWM. It just feels normal.

I posted this in the Touchpad forum, as I'm running TWRP on both my Android devices now:

"I flashed TWRP as well as the latest nightly. Sheesh, I can't believe I've been tolerating CWM so long.

Frankly, I'm a little put out with Koush for not updating CWM for the Galaxy Nexus - and for the supposed "fix" being to purchase CWM Touch (I realize it's free if you want to manually load it). I already purchased the paid version of ROM manager, I bought both versions of the DX Bootstrapper, and I donated back when the DX was being hacked for the first time. I'm not spending another three bucks to fix a broken recovery.

So... Go TeamWin!"

Ok, so every time I've tried TWRP it hangs at the blue loading screen that says Team Win for about a minute and a half before the "shade" rolls up and I can get in to recovery. Does everyone experience this and just accept it or was it only me?

Yeah, it happens to me too. Although, I am not sure it is quite that long, but it is a while.

A few people have complained of that. Mine "hangs" for about 20 seconds or maybe less. Are you using "minute and a half" as a gut-estimate of what you perceive to be a long loading time, or have you actually timed it at 90 seconds?

Can someone please dumb down this JB boot loader thing? What is it, what does it do, how do I install it, and how do I get rid of it? Etc....
Thanks!!!!

the bootloader is the most basic software on the phone think sorta like bios from PC.

it can be flashed almost the same way as a ROM, (see the root guide)

I think I am going to stick with 2.5 for a while. It's running so good right now.

It really is solid and not even source. Very content and to think it's only going to get better....however I'll be first in line to flash the first source based version from jake :)

I really am loving this. I came over from liquids ICS ROM and as much as I loved it Jelly Bean is too good to ever go back. I tried a different ROM at first and got caught in the terrible boot loop. After that I found this ROM and have never looked back. 2.6 works great. Thank you so much for all your hard work and a great ROM.

THIS SO MUCH THIS... I thought the in "app" purchase money grab was disgusting...

Ok I'm done venting :)

I'll check out TWRP and switch when I get home :)

Alright: yet ANOTHER nerve-racking minute has passed without issue!

Successfully flashed TWRP and am making my first backup with it. JB bootloader did well, doing great.

Oh BTW: so far I am LOVING TWRP! Soooo much better than trying to select something in CWM and overshooting it 4 times before I can select it. It's interesting, though, that TWRP generates an MD5 sum for every partition as it backs it up... not just one final MD5 for the entire backup. That's actually a great thing: even if one part of the backup fails, you can restore the parts that are okay.

Wow that was a FAST backup! Done!

Okay, ONE nerve-racking minute is over with!

I flashed the JB bootloader and all is well. Booted up just fine :)

I figure that, at this point, there's just no going back to ICS so what the heck...

Your bravery inspired me Chief. I did the same, after checking my MD5. Fast boot up, no problems at all.

Boy oh boy did I just make a mistake I've never seen before. Since I have the JB Bootloader installed and I'm on 2.5, I figured I'd make a nandroid in anticipation of AOSP. So... I turned off my phone and instead of hitting both volumes and power, I hit volume down and power, like as if you're taking a screen shot. I have the big START arrow pointing to my power button and the little android. It says, "Downloading... Do not turn off target!!" I stopped right there. What the heck did I do????

You put it in Odin mode. Just pull the battery and restart it.

It's telling you not to turn it off because IF you were pushing software to it via Odin from the PC, it's doing a direct write to the bootloader/recovery/file system, so powering it off could corrupt it.
