[Verizon] Verizon's Leaked 4.0.4 OTA Update

No matter how I do it, I keep getting Error 7, and it won't install. Any ideas? I've completely unrooted and back to stock everything (still unlocked, of course), and I can't get it to install through the stock recovery, or by temporarily flashing CWM. I've also tried it rooted with CWM permanently flashed.

mattywalnuts' link worked, however, it still shows hardware rev. 9, instead of 10, which indicates something is missing somewhere. May not mean anything, but I'm extremely anal. LOL.

EDIT: Okay, I got it working (though I'm still showing rev. 9, while others updated to 10. grrrr). I had unrooted, but FLASHED an unsecure boot.img to adb push the update to my phone. For some reason, that screwed it up.

My steps were as follows, if it helps anyone else out (NOTE: You will lose root!!):
1. Manually unroot using the fastboot guide and factory images found here on this forum.
2. Go to http://www.freeyourandroid.com/guide/root-galaxy-nexus-manually-windows and temporarily boot using the insecure boot.cmda.img he has linked. (terminal command: fastboot boot boot.cdma.img)
3. Download the OTA to your PC and rename it update.zip
4. Push it to /cache (this is the root directory, not the SDCard, which is why you need a temporary insecure boot image. Use these commands in terminal window:
adb root
adb remount
adb push update.zip /cache
adb reboot
5. Go to the stock recovery, from the bootloader, select recovery and push power. You will be brought to the stock recovery.
6. Hold power and push volume UP. This will give you the recover menu.
7. Select update.zip from /cache
8. Select the update.zip and let it do it's thing!

These are simplified instructions assuming you have sdk tools set up and all the proper drivers, and you know how to use fastboot and adb. I accept no responsibility for any damage you cause to your phone following these instructions, how it may impact the upcoming SuperBowl or Presidential Elections. Thank you.

If that helps anyone, please be sure to thank me!

Now I'm going to temporarily flash CWM and make a nandroid back up, so I can screw around with some rooting methods to see if I can get them to work. Good Luck everyone!

you should check out the 4.0.4 file and flash that one, cause from what i have heard it all works when just flashing straight over

also you can move the renamed update.zip into the /cache folder using root explorer, and you do not need a rooted kernel, you can install cwm, and install su.zip, root it, then move the renamed file to /cache by root explorer, and then boot to stock recovery, (as long as you didnt delete the stock recovery image) and install it that way.

i was having issues with the rooted kernel so i just did it that way, and it worked, much easier too.

It's worth it alone for the fix to Android OS reporting - since updating to 4.0.4 its nice to actually see Phone Idle on top of my battery stats now the way it should be let alone the snappiness and new radios on top

so far the signal transition is smooth, and switches over quick, where i work my phone is on airplane mode, when i take it off im in my car going home, and i usually have to wait 1-2 minutes, now its like 15-30 seconds

so im happy

I am strongly considering this based on the feedback I am hearing so far, as I meet the requirements, and the improvements go to the heart of my biggest complaints... Decisions decisions.

coming from the limited word of dx modding, I sometimes get things confused. Technically, I can flash a 4.0.2 stock rom. (I don't want to lose my other stuff)... install 4.04 and go, right? I can switch back and forth after that, right?

Also, before I bother, can anyone put up a list of advantages? Radio hopefully?

No need to install a 4.0.2 rom, although you probably should flash back to the 4.0.2 radio. The original OTA 4.0.4 installed a new bootloader and updated the radios to 4.0.4. I just did a nandroid of my current, and flashed the rom with a factory/reset option. It works great, there are some nice things about it. There's a new gmail and the reporting seems more accurate. Everything works and I really like the radios. Even when you nandroid back to a different rom, keep the radios, don't keep switching them.

I installed the new radios, I'm going to wait for dev built roms before I upgrade the rest.

I'm still at work so I haven't had a chance to see if the radios are "better".

I would suspect they are based on past phone experience. I wouldn't expect anything earth shattering though (except maybe with switching 3g/4g), also based on past experience. YMMV

You should check this thread out, you do need to be on 4.0.2 or your going to have issues flashing this file.. a custom built ROM of IMM30B this probably isnt an issue but this specific one only updates stock 4.0.2
You need to be on 4.0.2 what? Radio? Yes, if you flash the full OTA. But there are 4.0.4 roms now with the radio and bootloader stripped out. Use that if you don't want to flash the radio or you already have the radio flashed previously.

You said there was no need to be on a 4.0.2 ROM unless I misread your previous post- when in fact you DO need to be on 4.0.2 if you're going to use this zip to update or your going to get error7 among other issues. Radios or custom built ROMS of course you can flash them standalone, I'm talking about the ota zip mentioned in the OP and elsewhere

Why would you update your current rom? Factory reset and install it. (after you nandroid that is) There is absolutely no reason to install a 4.0.2 rom ever again unless perhaps you are returning the phone and want it stock.

You don't get what I'm trying to say, I'm guessing here. You said:

What I was saying was if you're on anything else other than 4.0.2 (ie 4.0.3 etc) and try to use this 404 ota zip you're going to have issues like the people I posted in the links earlier... simply saying this so in the future someone doesnt read that post and assume they can flash this from anything then wonder when its not working why when you had to be on stock 4.0.2 to use it
