Root [VIDEO GUIDE] Test Mode/No service fix (# to Hidden Menu)

This has become my worst nightmare! I get to the LGPNST screen that comes up after I enter my spc code and the screen is all messed up that pops up, its colums are overlayed, cant even see the "read" button, but click in that area and a gray screen comes up on the right, but it covers everything I need to see. Ive installed LGPNST 3 times, and I get the same thing.
This no service crap just happened after about 3 days of the phone freezing and rebooting etc. I flashed the latest "rom 2" with unleashed and the BT fix, and it wipes out my service?? I have the net and youtube so 4g is a go..no calls or txt.
so due to the fact I cant see where to type the info, im at a stand still.. been at it for 3 hr's..now its time for a rip:smokingsomb:

any suggestions?

I will say, the Esteem has been the best phone Ive ever had, all the rom's kernels etc to play with. not once has it let me down. hell I cracked my digi, not the screen tho and it still works fine. so If I have to buy a new metro phone ill get the S3 I guess. Id rather keep it going tho...this forum is a blast!

The ROM you flashed has nothing to do with the cause of test mode. Test mode can be entered without ROOT. No one knows why it happens but it seems localized.

As far as the program not working, I dont know. I would make sure all firewalls and AV programs are off completley. I've heard of some issues with W7 but for the most part most people have been Vista or XP users and have had no problems.


You can also change the phones info through the hidden menu ##626* and then the PRL through *228 option 5.

I'll tell you like the othe rperson having issues, if you want you can send it to me and I'll fix it. I've had several people do this that also had problems. Just pay shipping both ways and throw me something for my time. I'll ship it back out the same day so turn around is usually a few days depending on where you live. Just let me know.

Hopefully you can get it straightened out. It's something on your PC that's causing the instal to glitch.
 
First off, thank you so much for taking the time to help with this headache of a problem!! I followed all the steps carefully, and successfully got it out of test mode. I now have full green bars along with my 4g data. HOWEVER, when i try to make a call, a voice comes on saying "if you'd like to make a collect call..." etc. And I know I'm not roaming because in my Phone Status menu it says 'Not Roaming". It also says I'm "Connected" under Mobile network state, that the Network is "Metro PCS", my Service State is "In service", and My Phone Number along with my MIN are right. Is there anything I can do from here? Thanks again

Yes. Call Metro PCS and tell them what is happening. They will assist you in programming your phone correctly.

Im having the same problem! Every time I try to run the Test Mode fix it gives me the same message. Ive tried with my laptop and desktop and the same thing! Pls Help!!!! I have servince and data but still stuck in Test Mode.

No clue. Someone else had this problem and I ruled out every issue I could by sending the direct exe unzipped. This confirmed that the issue remained on the users computer.

All I can tell you is that the issue is "something" on your computer. What that is I dont know. It could be a program, anti virus, firewall, framework isn't updated, etc...... That's all I can tell you really.

Do you have XP? I know a certain framework has to be installed, but is usually installed through the updates on the PC. I'll check which one so you can see if you have it installed.


DOTNET 3.5 Framework has to be installed. Check your computer and make sure its isntalled and up to date.
 
I check and I have Net.4.0. Should i update to Net4.5?

Last night I took my phone to metro pcs service store and I mention about the Test Mode and also that I was rooted, and they said It was no problem. They took my phone and said they would fix it and had to do a hard reset. Well 15 min later they gave me my phone and said they were not able to fix it because I was "Re-rooted" ?? WTF?? So now my phone is stuck on CMW Recovery. I installed my#2 rom again but it will not boot. It stays on CMW Recovery. . . .This sucks :-(
 
Well I was finally able to fix my phone. All this Test Mode is a headache to be honest. If you guys are having problems doing it yourself.(like me) All I did was take it to the Metro Pcs Store service and they will do a hard reset to remove the Test Mode.
In my case, they did it but didnt fix it. I was stuck on CMW recovery loopt.
So i just downloaded the extrarecovery.zip file and then flash the #2 rom and
Boom! Now my phone is fix. It was such a pain in the ass but all is good now.

Glad you got it working. Most of the time everyone flows through all the fixes with no problems but every now and then someone has an issue. Being that every computer is different and programs are variables, you cant predict how every computer is going work with all the files. Most of the time its a step that someone forgot or it's a firewall on the computer preventing everything from installing correctly and running correctly. This is why I made the guide as detailed as possible and also added a video.
 
I *somehow* got into test mode and went into denial just seeing the downloads required. That was like two days ago. Maybe three? I managed to get myself out of some black screen hell with a hard reset. Back ups were good, very good. lol.

I faced reality and here I am, in full working order. The process went pretty smooth for the most part, I only had to backtrack a couple of times. I was really surprised, I tend to not follow directions but I was pretty good for this task. The one hiccup I ran into was the skin.dll - it was a error saying it may have been invalid. But that was likely on my end. It still worked tho. I did have to call metro - just the MIN was off.

Well now, yay! Thank you so much for this Fuzzie! I appreciate this forum a lot, I'll try to participate more. =)

Did you go to a dealer or a corp store? I both near by but didn't bother mainly because I dont know if they generally feel about customers who hack thier phones I guess. I'm talking about floor employees/CSR types.

I got the same error message as tonyrl (broke my heart , soooo close) so I'm gonna go his route and let metro put me in recovery loop.can someone share a link to the exit recovery zip so i can have on deck? I'm having trouble finding it
 
Hard reset didnt work either so i boughta coolpad Quattro (had xmas bonus$ to burn) untili can get to a better pc to sort my esteem out

Nope. Nothing will work but what's in this guide. I would have posted it instead of spending 10 hours writing this guide. ;)

What gives? My phone is in "Test Mode" but I still have data and phone services.

If you still have data and phone you are NOT in test mode-what made you think you were:confused:
 
When the phone is first powered up, message at bottom reads "unable to switch usb while in test mode". Also if I hit the # key in the phone function I get the LG Hidden Menu and I can only charge the phone through USB, I can not transfer any data.
