Root [Virgin Mobile] [New Update] Patience Please

Status 7 just means an assert check has failed, which we know from the output.

Please try installling with TWRP 2.4.3, this may be a TWRP 2.5 issue (I have not used 2.5). You can either flash it via Odin, or extract the recovery.img file and place it on your sdcard, then use dd to install it (note- this assumes your sdcards are not swapped):
Code:
su
dd if=/mnt/extSdCard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
reboot recovery
Then try restoring g60madman's backup and then flashing the no-props zip
-----------------------------------
edit: another idea:
Try using dd to make a backup of your modem, then copy this stock modem backup: NON-HLOS.bin (put it on your sdcard)
Code:
su
dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/modem of=/mnt/extSdCard/NON-HLOS.bin.bak
dd if=/mnt/extSdCard/NON-HLOS.bin of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/modem
Then try to flash the no-props zip

If you have issues, you can restore your backup with this code:
Code:
su
dd if=/mnt/extSdCard/NON-HLOS.bin.bak of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/modem

Flashing your modem binary allows the patch to flash. I'll edit in if this destroys my phone's cell/3G/4G capabilities. Its currently patching.

EDIT: I used TWRP 2.5.0.

So far, so good. It all seems to have worked!

I was going to say, can we have someone who hasn't updated pull a modem image via ADB and post it? ...and maybe some of us can save some copies for archiving in case of future emergencies.

Then we have a fix for folks restoring g60's images over the MA8 build. We might also want to edit in HUGE blinking, capital letters for people to do all the carrier updates before they root or install Victorious. Did older versions of Victorious install over MA8 builds?

Haha yeah, I'm thinking that's what happened :) My bad! I think I even made a backup of my original stock MA8 rom at one point...but i lost it :( I'm going to wait and see how the modem patch works out ;)

unfortunately, even after replacing the modem file, the update still failed =/ although, 3G/4G/WiFi still worked...I decided to flash back to victorious 0.2.2-r1 and just edit the build.prop to trick the phone intothinking it's already MG5 to get rid of the pesky update notification x) Thanks for all the help anyway Jerry, I really appreciate :)

I did both of these, my baseband is now L300VPAMC1, but still can't flash the zip. I'm on VM btw.

edit: actually I did the whole process over after flashing the radio and it works now. Thanks for the help.

when trying to do this i got the status 7 error as well. so i wipe the cache and restored from g60madman, but even after following the steps to do that and go back to stock i am just stuck on the samsung screen, and it wont do anything. suggestions?

No there aren't any newer updates. It's possible the update didn't fully take or did you happen to flash back to Victorious? If you flushed back to victorious and used a build prior to 0.3.1 then you actually downgraded to before update state.

If you're stock check under About Phone under settings and see if your build and baseband versions end with MG5. If not the update didn't take so you'll have to do official update again if on stock recovery or Jerry's no-prop update if in TWRP recover.

If you're running an old version of Victorious you'll need to restore g60's stock backup, flash the no-prop update then flash the newest Victorious.

if you have a non stock kernel the update will fail unless you use Jerry's files to do it manually. No error message if you let it run normally, it just doesn't take.

Takes a few days for the update message to come back, mine just did yesterday, after 3 blissful days of peace.

I have the stock kernel. Stock rom
I used his update in twrp
If you have updated and everything looks good under settings (everything ends with MG5), then you should be able to move the update.zip in your /cache directory to your sdcard (just for safety, delete in a week when you're sure everything is ok) to get rid of the prompt to update.

Hey...my girlfriend just got this phone and i told her not to update so i could root her phone then use your update. The problem is...i think there was an update prior to this one? The update no props zip to mg5 failed. The baseband is L300VPAMA8. HELP PLEASE?

Why not update the phone and then root? The update shouldn't stop you from rooting it.

All you need to do is these steps and you will be running stock, rooted and with the update:

1. Clear Delvik BEFORE restoring G60's stock Backup.
2. Restore G60's backup, but when asked to fix root (in TWRP), click do not install.
3. Flash Koush's Superuser. Download this before you start and place it in the root of your SD card.
4. Start your phone.
5. Boot back into TWRP and flash no-props.

After doing these steps, check your Baseband and Build in System Settings>About Device and make sure both end in PAMG5

When you restore g60madman's backup, you will be restoring the kernel, it's in the boot.img ;)

You can then flash the latest VaeVictus kernel if you want to overclock. I'll build an uncapped to 1.5ghz kernel from the official Samsung source for those who don't want to overclock soon.
Where do I get g60madman's backup?

Thx

If you look in about phone in your phones settings, look at build or baseband if it ends in mc1 you're not updated, if it ends in mg5 you are already updated and do not want to use g60s backup. If you're already on stock ROM and need to update, you don't need his backup. Just update. His backup is for going stock.
