Root [Virgin Mobile] [VMOBI][ROM][KERNEL] Victorious ROM + VaeVictus OC kernel (Updated 7-30-13)

Hey gotta question. So. I followed the installation instructions, made backups, cleared caches, then ran the install. When i get to setting permissions, the install fails with status 7. Is there anything i can do to fix that?

Edit: to further clarify

First report of any permissions issues, what other mods have you been attempting?

Try booting into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik, then run fix permissions, then install the ROM.

I'll try that order. So far the only mod I've ever used was the kernel for overclocking. I too found it weird to have this issue but hey with programming a bug found in the alpha build is better than none at all.

Edit: I tried the method you gave me. Still aborts. I'm just thinking its the kernel I have. If anyone has a zip of just the stock kernel then I could give that a go.

Rooted perfectly with TWRP and shows in the settings that I'm using the Victorious rom. All i'm missing so far is a network connection. It's no big deal because i can always just recover my old stock rom.

If there's an easy fix for the network thing, let me know and i'll try it out.

First report of any network errors, which network, 4G/3G/WiFi? Can you pull a logcat and post it to pastebin.com so we can see what's happening on your phone?

PS- You did wipe cache and dalvik cache first?
PPS- You DID NOT factory reset I hope (at least not without a backup!)

I finally figured out how to make custom bootanimations that work on the Victory! ;) Here's the original thread with download links, video, and step by step picture instructions, huge thanks to xessus and djanbech!

QMG file creation thread

Here is the android particle animation in blue (my fav). There are three files, two for boot and one for shutdown animations:
  1. bootsamsung.qmg
  2. bootsamsungloog.qmg
  3. shutdown.qmg
Download and put on your sdcard, then copy to the following:
  • Place 1. bootsamsung.qmg and 2. bootsamsungloop.qmg in /system/media
  • Place 3. shutdown.qmg in /system/media/video/shutdown
  • Rename /system/media/VMU_bootsamsung.qmg to VMU_bootsamsung.bak
  • Set permissions on all three to rw-r--r--
Note - If you follow the tutorial/video to make your own custom bootanimations, I've only been able to get 480x800 images to work, please let me know if you have success with other formats.

Help -- Need someone with more graphical talent than myself to create a custom bootlogo for Victorious ROM. This is the second instance of the Samsung logo during boot, and it's packed into the boot.img in rle format, no way I know of to change the first instance. I can convert PNG or JPEG to RLE format, but I'm not much of a graphics artists. Please, if you do submit a bootlogo, do not be offended if it is not choosen! I would like to keep it shades of blue in keeping with the current Android color scheme, and it needs to be 480x800 (dpi unimportant). Thanks to all who help!

The kernel should not have any affect on the install, it's done by the recovery which has it's own mini-kernel. Try downloading the 0.1.2 build and check the md5 I posted to be sure it's a good download. Let me know if you have trouble with this release.

Everything is ruling on this so far for me. It's super lean and responsive, which is awesome.

I haven't been able to get the Wi-Fi mod to work successfully yet and just get a force close.

Assuming you mean WiFi tethering? Try uninstalling it and then installing the one from the tethering thread here. Let me know if that fixes the problem.

Having problems over here. Using twrp 2.4.3.
First release flashed without a hitch, but this time, it wouldn't load past Samsung screen. Wiped cache and dalvik. Also, if I try to flash your first release now, I get an error. Only got my phone back using an old backup. Any ideas?

Those keep running into this issue. After flashing with twrp are yall letting twrp fix root for you? Try wiping caches again and the fix permission then try flashing the rom.

But own my end I havent had any problems with the build. Everything works like it should and I havent done any extra wiping on both Builds to get it to boot.

Try installing it from another sd card and see what that does

Even after wipe, and fix permissions, I cannot get 2nd release to load past Samsung. First release won't even flash, which was not a problem until I attempted to flash 2nd release. So I'm back to stock rom for now. My backup failed too :/

Oh, I also changed recoveries, thinking it might be twrp, but clockwork was no better .

It wouldn't boot for me either on a full wipe, I was able to get it to work by restoring my stock backup, wiping cache and dalvik and installing over stock.

Is the boot animation turned off on this rom. I just get a black screen. Even copying over the Android Partical one. I get the shutdown animation just not start up one

Have you tried not a factory reset, but just the dalvik and cache?

It looks pretty similar to stock.

Yeah I was able to get it going with just a wipe of cache and dalvik. I've just always been accustomed to doing full wipes when flashing new roms.

Phone runs a lot better thanks to this.

That's what I due sometimes but when its just a modification of the same ROM I'd rather flash over it after creating a backup. Just incase the flash messes up you either have the option to wipe or restore.

I'll update the OP with a note about not wiping data, system, or boot (boot is ok since the latest installs the RedSpot boot.img). Sorry about the confusion, Android 4.1.2 is huge so I thought I would conserve bandwidth by making it an update package instead of a full ROM.

Now that I think of it, in the future when there are other ROMs for the Victory, this will cause issues, forcing people to restore stock before flashing Victorious. I may have to package future releases as complete ROMs (500mb+).

Update package would be easier for you though....

Rom running great with jupiter kernel. Thanks you and jupiter for the work you and others have done for the victory.

Quick question and may be stupid in a way. Do you think the victory is capable of running multiview like the s3? Or the floating screen where you can watch movies and do other applications as well?
