Me2 I finally jumped in. Funny too, I started the installation and mid install jt dropped 11/27 test2
I will say Im underwhelmed though. Remembering the great DI01 kernels and even where we were with DJ05 non voodoo Im not blown away at all. Oh well its fine enough I suppose. I may or may not stick with it, given no other kernels are coming out I might stick just to get updates.

Also on the global voodoo news front: supercurio said voodoo5 becomes official today

so where are the uninstall instructions? No one in IRC seemed to know (I missed jt) I thought it was uninstalled but found out that the CWM it installed wasn't. So how do we completely remove it, all of it?
anyone know?

Tonight I had trouble disabling v5 and had to use the un installer. Well that didn't work until I also flashed a ROM so if you use it you have to also flash a ROM. Finally got it to boot and at that point I went back into cwm (red) and did a nandroid restore from a backup before I activated V5.

Well all that did was act like it was restoring but in reality it simply wiped and reset my phone. I had to re-flash a ROM theme and restore (will I'm dong that now) I'm hoping it doesn't just act like its restoring.

anyways I want to completely remove v5 including the red cwm and no one seems to know. I guess I'll have to odin back to stock if I can figure it out.

short of taking the phone through odin back to DI01 and pushing stock recovery...i cant really think of another solution

nope and nope....unless jt snuck them in....i havent actually tried on 11/28 yet, but i think it d be hyped up if it was

ah, i was unaware about restore...i guess ill have to try and see....most of the time in irc im just complaining and not pay attention

Yeah I wasnt in irc for a shockingly long 24 hours+ and when I saw the 11/28 [and now again since its been renamed again] my first thought was whats new in it? Same thing I semi-pet peeved others for 2 days ago myself. I guess for those who arent in IRC constantly/daily, it is a very legitimate question and one where I will no longer get upset over seeing it asked by 10 different people 10 times per hour. If you dont know something ask a question, just because someone else asked the same question 1 minute before you logged in, should not matter. Now that Ive walked a mile in someone else's shoes Im humbled.

I heard it was and I heard it wasn't so I'm unsure. (this is a problem with IRC no documentation and multiple people telling you different things)
I can tell you a nand backup done before voodoo5 install will not restore after you uninstall v5 (maybe it will once I get rid of the red cwm??), at least mine didn't. All it did was look like it was restoring but once it rebooted I was setting on the setup screen as though I just did a factory reset.

I guess I'm going to finally get to use Odin for a restore! yeaaa

the best thing about voodoo is you get to learn how to restore your phone ....a lot.

i think the devs would do better if they looked at how the system accesses the sd card and the drivers or the sd controller (if android even has those) I say this because both my X and the Sf have this same lag and HTC doesn't, so it doesn't make since to say its the file system. Question is why and what does HTC do so different. Maybe they just cache it in the background i don't know but on an HTC phone when you press widgets you get the list instantly no wait. That was the one thing I loved about my Dinc it was very responsive and presented what you asked from it in a blink of an eye. If only it had been bigger

I am testing it out now I will let you guys know how it works out.



edit: everything worked fine for me. I only tried restoring a backup that had been made after flashing a voodoo kernel though. I would assume trying to restore a non voodoo backup would probably cause problems.

jt dropped 11/29 kernels both voodoo and non....and for those with conversion problems: @jt1134> the non-voodoo version will also flash "stock" recovery, so it is essentially a full revert from voodoo (disable_lagfix still required for actual ext4->rfs conversion , though)

yeah I can also confirm that using red cwm to uninstall voodoo works like a charm.
For those that dont know, just select voodoo>disable lag fix then allow conversion for whatever it was called [3rd line I think], reboot and it does its thing, took me 10 minutes since I got a lot of data on my internal [500mb]. Not totally sure that second step is necessary or not but it sure didnt hurt and this I will go out on a limb and recommend it

I decided to for a few reason:
1] I was underwhelmed and wanted to try a different non voodoo kernel
2] I wanted to test the uninstall process, which does work flawlessly I can see myself changing back and forth at will if need be necessary, all it takes is time
3] I knew geeknik did have some things in the works and I needed to get off voodoo to test them. oh btw, he found me, 1.59 has already been pulled if you tried it, flaw in it. BTW, if peeps didnt know apparently his kernels are in Rom Manager now, at least the public ones

Anyway, I'll tell you all what I told him privately, the visible, tangible, real world difference between the stock kernel, a voodoo kernel, an OC kernel non voodoo really is pretty small and hard to perceive in most cases.
I've got nothing against anything or anyone. My ideal remains an OC voodoo combo but the reality is there isnt one and either by them-self really isnt that much of a wow factor any longer. I cannot tell the difference between voodoo and no or OC or not, most of the time. Maybe I've done too much testing its all a blur though

What un install process did you use? the 1129 or 1130 non voodoo? (I'm about to try that right now)

If not I bet you still have the red cwm and the other one is messed up and doesn't work properly.

I just downloaded and flashed the 1130 non voodoo and it installed Voodoo5 wtf?

The link says its non voodoo but the file name itself says voodoo I think they have a mix up on that link on #redrum

Thats what jt said last night regarding the 11/30 voodoo test. I checked and they both work for me.

yea even if I didnt want to use voodoo I would probably use a voodoo kernel right now and just disable voodoo to have the permanent recovery.

yeah voodoo has been really good for me lately so until i find that the nonvoodoo kernels leap past (if they do) im a sticking with it

You don't need voodoo for permanent recovery (non voodoo) and frankly the old method is more flexable. Many have removed the other permanent recovery. The new red one causes problems with ROM manager (unless its been fixed) and I'd rather use ROM manager.

Voodoo is getting better though but it just doesn't do anything speed wise for my phone that and the other issues and not being able to flash ROMs without disabling it is a pain and makes me want to remove it.

I know there was a perma recovery although I thought it had problems. I honestly never looked into it much because it was before I even got a fascinate. I dont really see having the stock recovery as being anymore flexible. Although I havent used rom manager much recently. I got out of the habit when I had the DX because half the time it would just reboot you with the DX and not do anything unless you redid the bootstrap first.

I think the rrc links got fixed. The 11/29 nonvoodoo kernel is supposed to reflash the stock recovery. Any others will leave you with the red cwm

yeah i never use rom manager to reboot now that power button recovery takes you straight into clockwork
