VZE Froyo 2.2.2 Update Discussion Thread

I'm rooted and used the Lg updater to update my phone last night May 2. I'm at version 2.2.2 Baseband vs740mve.6040.1001 kernel 2.6.32.9 lg-electronics@aloha #2 Build number frg83g SW vs740zve

After what seemed an eternity (I was at a hotel using Wi-Fi on my laptop) the update went through and finished. I wasn't rooted anymore, no superuser on phone, so I just used superoneclick again. It did not take the first time so just ran it again (which I had to run it twice before to root this phone) which took. I don't see any improvements and all I know it did was to re-install the bloatware I had removed. I just used Titanium to remove them again. So far no problems and works just like before. If anyone knows what improvements they actually put in there please list them, inquiring minds want to know.....lol

The big one was a sms issue where they could get sent to the wrong person. But other than that not a whole lot. It was a SMALL update. Not like eclair to froyo. Theres a post in the all things root section that explains it all

I had to run superclick twice to get it to take. But after doing that update I figured I'd go with the Velocity 1.1 rom and to say the least I'm very impressed..... now if they'd just use this as the rom to push out that'd be nice.... I love the idea of being able to overclock only tried 787 so far and is very stable.... oh well got to go play with it some more....

So as many of you have noticed already there is an update to 2.2.2 so....Before I update and go through the process of rooting and flashing Velocity I was wondering if we could get a dicussion on whether or not if updating to 2.2.2 is worth it....

It's not worth it. It fixes things that have already been fixed in Velocity 1.1, and potentially causes problems for future root. Stay away.

Ive successfully rooted 2.2.2 without the guide, but it's HIGHLY RECOMMENDED you use the guide so you can get fastboot. Fastboot can save you in times of need.

One question I allready downloaded the update.. but have not yet applyed it it keeps asking me to reboot and install I just keep hitting later can anyone tell me how to delete the downloaded file and diosable these upgrade messages .. thanks

Ya am i gonna need to go back to stock or do you think the app will let me get the update even if i am rooted

Alright, im rooted but not running any special ROMS or kernels. Umm Ill try the update right now and let you know if anything goes wrong from this point. The only difference I have is the Ally Iuse isnt connected to the VZW network so i never got the message abou an update. But going off what you guys said I should be able to just download the app from the market and do a system update. Ill fill you in on what happens

edit:
nevermind didnt see the second page here. someone already went and did it lol

If you have custom recovery already installed, just install the update. It will fail. Reboot the phone. No more message

Would it be possible for you to link the guide to rooting 2.2.2

Sorry, just got my phone set up the way I want it and now this dang 2.2.2 is out...

Thanks

Thread called guide froyo 2.2.1 for the root user in the all things root subforum. If you want to install velocity, dont bother updating to 2.2.2. But either was use that guide even if you did. May need to use LGNPST guide to downgrade

here on my office pc the "lg udate tool" tells me there is a software update for my phone (ally).
It says New version vs740zve
I guess that is the 2.2.2 we have been reading about.
Unfortunatly the phone is at home.
Just a heads up!!

Don't mean to be rude or anything. But there has been atleast 4+ threads about this update already from atleast a week ago.

i thought this was weird and wondered if anyone has had the same thing happen. i have velocity 1.1, i dont have the upgrade utility in the market. i got the ota update last night, tried to install it, failed and now the install is gone and im still running 2.2.1. im not too concerned that im missing anything important, just didnt get how that could happen. anyone think they know why?

yes I have seen every body talking about it.
What it is.
What it covers.
The update app.
I looked good and hard b4 posting for a post about 2.2.2 being available from the update tool today.
I didn't see one.

If we don't "upgrade" is there a way to get rid of the annoying "system upgrade availiable" icon? Its making me crazy and I just want it to go away!

How do i make that stupid update available notifiaction go away ? I can clear it but it just comes right back i cant hit accept either

I think most of you guys and gals are under the assumption that EVERYONE has rooted. There are plenty of us that are still stock and won't go to a root topic for answers. I appreciate the discussions outside of the root world.

As a side note, once installed, can the "update" app be uninstalled?
Thanks again to all that post info about the Ally. Root or not.

Yes it can be, in fact when its finished installing the update, and you open the app, it will say it can be uninstalled, press ok, and it takes you to the uninstall page.

So did the install the other day if failed and the notification went away. Guess what popped back up this afternoon.

The Notification is back :(
