VZE Froyo 2.2.2 Update Discussion Thread

2.2.2 is the last version of android 2.2, LG released source code for a VS740ZVE which is apparently 2.2.2 and some other crap. No info of any ota's. Look in the All Things Root section there's a thread about it.

I got a text from Verizon saying I need to install an app to handle an update that will be coming soon. Anyone know what the app does, or what is in the upcoming update?

It seems odd that I need an app to install an update. The upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2 didn't need an extra app.
 
I just got a text message from Verizon Wireless that linked to an app from LG, and it seems like it is simply an app to assist in the update process for the next OTA, or similar update. I haven't downloaded it, since I am on Velocity 1.0, so I suppose my question is this: Has anyone else gotten this text message?

If so, did you download the app?

Did it do anything yet?

Did it conflict with any custom ROM you may have installed?

That is all.

I got the text and installed the app, but when I ran it, it said no updates are available. My phone is not rooted, running stock Froyo.

Ooooh I dont trust this one.

I think if it aint broke dont fix it.
I am tired of these updates. I think Ima sit this one out.

I mean a needed app for the update.... sounds fishy.
 
Just got off the phone with Verizon. At first the guy didn't know anything about it, but looked into it and all he found out was an update was sent out, but he wasn't sure about the actual app. So I don't know.

I'm curious of the purpose of this app though that the update requires.

Edit: The update is in the lg update tool as well. It is coming soon for sure.

Update ZVE is coming. Couldn't pay me enough money to give up Velocity for an update with bugfixes for problems I've never witnessed.

If it's possible and necessary, im sure that the Velocity dev crew will extract the new APKs for the current / next Velocity release.

If they are going to have to push the update via a app that means no OTA update but one more like with LG Mobile Update. Maybe its to download a entirely new ROM and wipe fastboot? lock the boot loader? I'm thinking all kinds of nasty things...
 
just remember let the devs or the people with more than one lg ally see what is up with the update because we might not be able to root after the update
 
I just got the message. Warned my wife NOT to click the link or install anything on her Ally unless I did it. I'm sitting by and gonna watch this one closely to see what it's changing before I do anything.
