Correct. Also, the king/queen of security concerned forums, Maeomo Talk also works fine with Tap and the site manager sees no reason to disable the function.

Seems AF are using older security issues that have been fixed as an excuse to segway to their own app... which is one month or so away.

AF's stance does not seem too "open" to me, hence full circle back to my original point. Any folks at AF care to comment? Silence in this case would not be golden.

the thing that bothers me most about it is that the fix was available for weeks before they decided that it wasn't secure enough and disabled it. the emergency update was posted on the tapatalk forums on june 26th...

AF didn't disable TT til july 14th (i don't remember the exact date, but that's when people started complaining about getting the error message that it had been disabled and that's when their big "announcement" was made about it). if it was so insecure, even AFTER the vulnerability WAS FIXED, why'd it take three weeks to disable it? the whole thing seems very odd to me...

edit: i think it should also be pointed out that xda actually USES tapatalk as the basis for their official app.

Oh no! No slack cutting for AF now. We got em' cornered and can see em' giving in with a little more push! ;):)

AF has been exposed for using the Apple model of closed intefaces ;)

Freeeeeduuuuuum'! Now, where's my kilt???

To everyone who is saying that they may leave this site because of this issue, I see why you are upset. However, that is a very childish thing to do. To leave a community like this because "they're not fair" or "they're forcing it down our throats" is a bit ridiculous. No one has said either of those things, but that is the general consensus that I am getting. I also dont like the fact that they have ignored the security fix but Im not going to cry to mom about it. One app doesnt make that much of a difference. Just my .02

I think it is more of an Android type mind set, Android is open, to "go with the flow" the forum should be also.
people choose phones, forums etc based on what they like/dislike. I would not criticize the ones that felt the need to look else ware.
As I am not an security expert, I'm just going with info passed that "hole" was fixed and other forums are apparently allowing tap again. I do understand that AF owners are free to do what they will with site.
Though I would be strongly against disabling tap and "corralling" people toward AF app, with no choice in matter.
Make a good app and people will use/buy it.

I don't use any of these apps, but this kind of tactic (wanna use our forum use our app) is the reason I will never use another apple product. I'm on android now because I like that there are 10 different ways to do everything and I get to pick what works best for me.

And people damn sure cry to mom about apple's bullcrap.

*I find it hard to believe android fanboys (the phandroid folks) would go this route and was only commenting on why people are getting upset.

In my world it does. I use tapatalk for 8 different forums I visit about various subjects. Have 1 app I go to for all of these forums is very efficient.

I no longer visit several forums because of the actions of the owners. People like me are the best advertising a forum can get. The day our office got 5 new android users I sent them a link to this forum. I no longer visit androidforums on the weekends or evenings because I cant use tapatalk. That brings the visit count down.

+1. I can vouch that I visit AF about 75% less than I did when they still had Tapa enabled. (Hence why my presence/post count has been lacking) For someone on the go a lot of the time, Tapa is an incredibly useful tool. I'm on XDA a lot more though..

Let us hope AF's recalcitrant position at this current juncture is realigned with the spirit of Andtoid :)

Is that cheesy enough? ;)

I think the popups asking if you wanted to check out tapatalk were really annoying. I'm glad this site walked away from tapatalk.

Two other forums I used to go to all the time on my phone installed tapatalk, and now I don't go there on my mobile anymore because it's irritating to have to tell the site 'NO' every time I try to read the forums.

I bought tapatalk too. I was disappointed when they forbade access via the program, as well. However, I've begun to get to know the folks in leadership, here. They are top-notch, quality, hard-working, straight up folks. It's rare to see a leadership team, all volunteers, who care so deeply about the community here. I'm honored, humbled and totally unworthy to be part of this wonderful group of people. I believe the best of their intentions and hope to convince you all of the same.

I'd like to believe that, because I have learned A TON since I started frequenting this forum...I'm a programmer by day, but this is my first Android phone. I've relied on the people here to help me with rooting, app development, etc...so I'd certainly like to think they've got good intentions.

BUT, when I ask them about it and the response is "there are several vulnerabilities, none of which are fixed" when by all accounts other than that of the powers that be here the vulnerabilities ARE fixed, and they then follow it up with a statement that there won't be TapaTalk support because they are releasing their own app...it makes you think a bit.

The biggest thing to us is that a staff member was actually targeted and with that persons log in credentials they could have done major damage to the forum. I know this is a crappy situation but our first concern is the members safety and if something interferes with it then that something has to go. I hope this doesn't cause any of you to leave.

I also purchased TapaTalk... Needless to say I've been on other forums quite a bit more now... Wish you guys would turn it back on...

that's certainly understandable...but why not turn it back on now that the vulnerability by all accounts has been dealt with and patched?

Appreciate the follow up - but taptalk fixed those security issues. So why not turn it back on?
