What the heck is the deal with iphone users Vs Android users

.... People will buy what they like period. ...

For many people what other people like (or what they think other people like) is just as important as what they like. They're very concerned about image when they go shopping and Apple products are blessed with being very trendy. The ones that buy products for their trendiness and then expend lots of energy bragging about its superiority without having a rational defense for their position are the ones that annoy people.

When somebody buys an iPhone and tells me it's because they thought it was prettier, had a specific app they liked, etc, I'm happy for them. When somebody tells me they bought one because it's "better", and when asked how, they say "it just is", those are the people that I mentally label as tools and will likely take pleasure in mocking when the opportunity arises. Right now, Apple seems to have captured a disproportionately large percentage of the "it just is!" crowd...

Perhaps the best approach is the one you touched upon in the above post.

Simply ask a Fanboy why their iThing is better. Be ready to counter their arguments with short answers. If they cant tell you why their product is better, simply ignore them.

And wear your Android T-Shirt, don't forget how Inanely Great Android clothing is. Perhaps we need an AndroidForums t-shoirt contest.

Oh stop with the scotch already, you people are making me sick!!!

No really. The first time I ever got piss drunk it was off of whiskey. I got soooo sick the next day that 23 years later I still can't stand the sight, smell or sound of whiskey (which for me anyways also includes scotch and bourbon). I'm not a huge drinker (well, not since my military days anyways), but if I'm drinking it'll usually be one of two things for me. If it's simply for taste I like a glass 2/3rds full of Bailey's Irish Cream and the other 3rd with Romano Black Sambuca, over ice. If I'm trying to go a little further then Vodka will do. Grey Goose or Ciroc preferably.

And Slug, shame on you for not listing which motorcycle you prefer!!!

He rides a 1965 Cushman Super Silver Eagle Shriner's Bike. Lucky Duck!

You're jesting right?

There is only one iPhone released a year. Construction quality is OK, certainly good enough IMO to last the length of a two year contract.

New Android phones are coming out every few days. Many of them very cheaply made, many of them with old versions of Android, with NO upgrades available. The exceptions been the expensive premium ones from well known manufacturers, e.g. HTC, Motorola, LG and Samsung.

lol, yeah.

i agree with you though with iphone. the durability of the phone is not something that is long term. i've had friends get upset that their iphone is acting up within a year of receving it and even some who started seeing problems 6 months later. my ipod is like that too. i like it, but i have to be careful with it or else it might break.

I know an American guy just like that down in Zhuhai. Drooling over and cuddling his iPhone 4. Couldn't say anything good technically about the wretched thing, extremely annoying, yes a tool.

The exact same type who will spend serious money on a polo shirt just because it has a pony logo, or a pair of jeans just because it has a bit of painting on the bum.

I found Apple's jab at Android with this slide amusing. Excluding Blackberry, every manufacturer up there has a Android tab coming out and even the Blackberry is rumored to be able to run Android apps. Heres Steve's quote from when this slide came up,

"We've gotten off to an exceptional first year. We'd like to build on that. What about 2011? Everyone's got a tablet. Will 2011 be the year of the copycat? If we did nothing, maybe a little bit... probably not."

The specs of the iPad2 are almost to where Android tabs are. The Xoom already surpasses it in a few categories, but the iPad surpasses the Xoom in a few as well. I think Apple is kind of playing catchup right now. I think the locked down environment of iOS is starting to catch-up with Apple. Where Android has probably hundreds of manufacturers developing the platform and developing innovative hardware, Apple just has themselves. They are going to have to either look about a year down the road and guess where they are going to have to be to keep up with Android, or find something new. But it will still sell in massive numbers because, "ZOMG!!! IT SO SHINY AND SAYS APPLE ON ITS!!!! I HAS TO ITS HAVE NOW!!" I give it 6 months before Android hardware completely annhilates it.

But I do agree with that article. Apple's 1 year product life is getting absurd, along with the people who will wait in line for 3 days to get one, even when their old iPad still works fine. I know an Android device's life is even shorter than this, but at least when a new Android device comes out, theres usually some major improvement over an older device or some major break through no one has ever done before. With Apple, its just a thinner, lighter, faster version of the same hardware that is still running the same locked down software. No thanks, I'll pass.

I find the tone of the article indicates that he just hates Apple. He doesn't really talk about why the iPad 2 "sucks". He mentioned a few features with a rather dismissive attitude and doesn't really go into why it isn't better than the Xoom. Just pure emotion and not much useful information to convince me why this product is not better than the Xoom. He could have just use the headline, "I Hate Apple" and say nothing more.

I'm a little confused. Would he rather not have Apple come out with something every year and as a result, slow down the tech industry? Google and Apple breathe down each other's necks for good reason... to continually push out new and improved productions, software, and so forth for the consumer. Apple really must update every year to even stay current as Android devices have to do also.

In regards to price, Apple sees themselves as a "premium" brand, just as Mercedes and BMW are "premium" brands. I wish there were PC makers that tried to compete with Apple with premium products, especially with unibody notebooks. People can say all they want about having a superior product in terms of performance vs. Apple... like how people can say that their aftermarket Dodge Charger is faster than a Mercedes E series, but no matter what... a Dodge can never be on the lines of a Mercedes.

Ok first thing...this is not my post, and if you want my take on it holds no fact and is an extremely hypocritical and biased argument. I've never even met an Apple fanboy this hardcore on one side with such anger towards "the other side".

Seriously, I wanna hear yalls thoughts. I'm actually going to post this on an apple forum to hear their opinions as well.

1 BIG Reason Why iPad 2 Sucks and So Does Apple | Michael Priceless

I read your blog and perhaps you are correct. Then again, nobody forces you to purchase an iThingy, so I really do not see the problem. If it were not for the iPhone, Android would not have arrived. Please understand that simple fact.

And I think it is great that we have an economy that can support Apple and its products and its Fanboys. Also remember that the vast majority of Apple customers could care less about these arguments and little battles between the Apple Fanboy and the android Fanboy.

As for Fanboys, you seem to be an Android Fanboy as your wrath is directed at Apple for reasons that mean zero.

Use what you want and get over it; these things that tick you off do not matter.

The remark that everyone has a tablet pisses me off - unless he meant mfgs.
I don't have a tablet, don't want a tablet. It's just something else I'd have to carry. Phone and DSLR, tripod, are enough.

Het Stuntman, Bob agrees.

Only a fool would claim that the iPad (or other iThings) sucks. You can, however, discuss the virtues of either/or using facts and examples of real world situations that make one better than the rest for your particular needs. And that might mean squat to people like me that have different needs.

I think (and please forgive me gathered gang of mine) so many of us adore Android we think everything Android must be good. Trust me, there is a pile of Android crap out there and surely, more will arrive.

He is in my view, an Android Fanboy who thinks that is enough to be right. It takes more than pulling malformed ideas and pompous opinions out of your back side to convince many of us that there are compelling technical reasons why Android rules and iPad sucks.

So Mr. "I HATE APPLE," grab a clue and recognize that Apple is a truly great American Corporation and their products rank high for a reason. Their stock price is high, and they have Fanboys. This is a good thing indeed. Your arguments are laughable at best and sour grapes to be generous.

Here is why I love my iPad. It is small. The screen is huge. The screen is sharp and the colors are amazing. It fits nicely in my bag, I have room left over for cigars and notebooks, no need to carry a charger (which is tiny by the way) and no need to carry a laptop. It serves me well and addresses every possible need I have. It makes me money and it pleases me.

The battery life astounds me; I downloaded three movie rentals from iTunes, watched all three, wrote a chapter of my soon to be released best seller, edited an article with Pages, answered some email, and I still have about 10% of my battery left.

No laptop can do that, in my experience.

It immediately connects to any WiFi signal which some of my other WiFi devices do not without effort. Bluetooth, ditto. It just works when i need it to work and so far, it has yet to let me down. It is Insanely Great (Insanely Great Copyright 1945, Apple Computers, Cupertino California, all rights reserved).

If you are listening, lets have a well reasoned, non-pissy debate that might actually help others rather than a foolish ill-considered declaration that eliminates your somewhat silly arguments from any and all consideration. Or are you now rethinking your views?

I'll debate anything if I have passion and in this case, I do.

Apple is a great company that creates innovative products. Look at their new cover for the iPad 2. It is magnetic and it can be quickly attached. So what, just another overpriced cover. However, when closed, a sensor shuts off the display. Open it and the display reappears and it doubles as a handy little stand. This is quite cool and I would have never considered it.

Apple has made lots of developers rich, their stock holders are pleased, and the company has true vision. So they are costly... so what? Do not like it, then do not buy it. Simple, I should think.

People love Apple and unless you are totally clueless, having legions of customers that adore your leader and your company is one reason a company survives. So God Bless the Apple Fanboy, I suppose. Naw... you tick me off.

You love your Android... well, thank Apple because they are partly responsible.

So rather than this pointless Fanboy Vs. Fanboy battle, lets hear a few legitimate reasons why the iPad sucks or does not suck. Ready, Set,, Go!

FYI: My iPad is not locked down.

So I might ask what is so wrong with Apple being "Locked Down" as you say? Do you think it is at all possible that most iPad users do not see any need to make changes and they live with their iPad as it is, and no issues. And if they want apps, there is the store right there, open 24 hours per day.

Do you really think your arguments hold water?

My Zio was locked down. Isn't the Xoom locked down as well? Just asking because every device is locked down, isn't that true?

If I started a company, God darned right, having people wait in line to buy my wares would be a great thing. Nobody really waiting in line for other such devices.

Bob, you're kind of annoying to me... especially with the signature of the same username. Irks me.

You're correct about some things and on the otherhand have worn knees in your jeans about Apple.

You assume that android would be a twinkle in E Schmidts eye if it weren't for apple. Why put apple on this pedestal? they pay you?

Personally i don't get it. Goog Maps is the BEST around, esp with the pricetag. GMAIL is a must for me. Ever use youtube? GOOGLE GOOGLE GOOGLE... FREE FREE FREE

yes there are shortcomings, but where has Apple contributed?

maybe i just dont know enough..

Bramsy

What? The name "Bob Maxey" irks you? Sorry, 'tis me name, get over it.

I never start these kind of threads but I do reply. Get over it.

Apple pays me zero dollars and .99 cents per month which I use to buy tunes. No, seriously, they would probably not like me if they knew I JB my iPad thereby destroying the Apple designated user experience.

I use Google Maps. Free on the App Store. Or free as a DL from Google. Or I use the iPad map app that gets its data from Google. I love Google. I use Gmail as well as YouTube. Again, on the iPad. So please clarify your point.

We know Bob is annoying; I'll add irksome, bothersome, galling, irritating, nettlesome, plaquy, vexatious, and disturbing.

I do not put Apple on a pedestal. I simply recognize that the iPad is a great product and I know eventually, something else will emerge that works better for me. Till then, get over it.

Who cares what he thinks? He's bashing a product that he's never even used. I've never heard of him before this thread, and I will probably forget all about him in 5 minutes. Buy what you want, based on your own user preferences, likes, and dislikes.

iPad2 March 11th, $499 without wonky activation fees or contracts. Announced the 2nd and on sale a week later.

Why the heck android tablet makers can just offer a tablet without the baggage at a good price I don't know.

And people wonder why Apple wins. Good price + good buying experiences + good user experiences = Win, billions of dollars and insane customer loyalty.

Anyone notice people were literally laughing at Android tablets at the iPad2 announcement. They have neither the apps, the support, the price or the profit to be competitive.

Unfortunately, the iPad will always have the upperhand as long as there's a $500 price point while others are much more expensive.

Actually the iPad is a copy itself.
I have, in my closet a tablet from ... 1995?

So the 'year of the copycat' is kinda LOL to me.
Apple did not invent the tablet, sorry to burst your bubbles.

I never understand why people insist all Android tablets are expensive... There are many to choose from sub-$400. Quite a few of them have 10" capacitive screens (The major sticking point), and most are Android 2.2, with updates coming to 3.0.
