What the heck is the deal with iphone users Vs Android users

No need to be personal.

It's a big world, everyone has different requirements.

No device I've used in my life is perfect - closest I got was a front-loading Westinghouse washing machine.

If someone says that they don't need certain features - or if someone says that one man's meat is another man's poison - then just agree to disagree and move on.

Usually, I would. Except, when the other person says the something is broken because it doesn't come with X, but yet the product they are pimping will never have X...

I just call that "Sour grapes". ie "I can't get that, so poo on it! I didn't want it anyways."

Here's my take on the Android Phone vs. iPhone discussion.

1) First, it's important that we evaluate these two with an open mind. Too many opinions I read are from those intent on bashing Android, or Proving the iPhone is superior based on that persons preferences. Most of us already know & acknowledge that the iPhone is a refined easy to use phone. Therefore there's no need for Apple users to continue to use that, to bash Android.

2) Next it's important we deal with real facts, not just myths propagated by those who have no personal experience with _both_ the iPhone & Android. Without this experience one can only go by hearsay.

3) Because the majority of smartphone owners have iPhones, it's only natural (yet wrong) to compare them, expecting the Android phone to compare exactly. That would be like comparing Diesel fuel to Gasoline. True they both power cars & trucks, yet these two are vastly different and completely incompatible. iOS & Android are fundamentally very different.

4) Like any new product one must invest some time learning it. Far too many iPhone users are quick to be critical of Android, while having little to no true knowledge, much less first hand experience.

5) Myth: Android is for geeks or tinkerers. (wrong)
This is simply untrue. Just because Android _can_ be customized, does _not_ mean it has to be, before the phone can be used. Out of the box Android phones are ready to use just as any other smartphone is ready out of the box.

At the end of the day we have choices. Why not celebrate that? Choices create competition. Competition creates better devices for everyone. It would be extremely boring if our only choice was one phone from one manufacturer.

Me? I use both Android & iPhones. I'm platform and brand neutral.
My laptops are ThinkPads & Macs. They all have their pros & cons.

That's my take on it.

Well, agree to disagree is the best course.

Remember in text on a forum, so much information is lost - you can't hear the other guy's face.

What you're certain the other guy is saying might not be accurate at all - nobuddy reads or writes perfectly because it can't be done.

And no one's required to think or believe in any specific way - it would be a boring world if we all thought the same, and more importantly, no one has a lead-pipe cinch on cornering the truth.

Did I miss the post where someone claimed the iPad was better than the Xoom, or that you should get one? I mean I may have, I honestly don't know, and I don't feel like rereading 19 pages to find out.

All I remember is a few people admitting they have and love their iPad. And that's just as legitimate as you or I owning and/or loving our Xoom. Quote a passage where the claim was made that the iPad is superior period (you can get away with saying it's superior for what you personally use it for cuz that falls under personal preference), and the debate is legit.

Otherwise it seems rather aggressive and just plain anti-Apple for the sake of being anti-Apple.

We watch him occasionally (he comes on right after Dr Who... when Dr Who comes on anyway...).

There was an episode where he had David Tennant on the show, and he trapped a guy in a "tardis", and transported him (via truck and forklift) from the street where he was, to the set....

He also setup an Dr who themed ad in a gay personals magazine, and had David Tennant call one of the guys back... it was absolutely hilarious.

He's not for everyone, but he can absolutely be hilarious.

haha, they show Dr. Who in Alabama? LOL

Been watching The Doctor in New Mexico since Tom Baker, had to wait for replays of Jon Pertwee and the others earlier.

Haven't missed a single one and Torchwood, too.

Want to see them legally on my Android.

There are a number of published ways to get around it - I simply refuse to violate anyone's terms of service.

We build industrial software - to do less than honor a TOS would be not only illegal, in my own case, it would be immoral in the extreme.

surely it's not illegal to break UK law outside the UK?

The debate is interesting, but everyone has a right to their opinion. That's the legitimacy I see.

What I meant was, the inflammatory statements like, "the iPad is inferior out of the box because it doesn't have x, y, z". Of course if you own an iPad that's going to rub you the same way it would rub me if an iPhone user came in here and said, "Android is inferior to iOS because of x, y, z".

IMO it's perfectly acceptable to say, "I personally prefer the (whatever) because it has x, y, z & that does the job for me". But as soon as they suggest my product is inferior because it doesn't have x, y, z... it insinuates that I am supposed to agree automatically that x, y, z is better. And I take issue with that. You can't tell me what's better for me anymore than I can tell you what's better for you.

You said it, we are all welcome to our opinions and this is where we share them. What I don't consider legitimate is pushing our opinions on others by making the claim that the product we use/support is absolutely superior.

'Superior for me.'... acceptable.

'Superior period, so if you don't see it my way then you don't know what you're talking about'.... too aggressive.

Lol, that's my opinion, it's not absolute. ;)

Well lots of people seem to get around on their iPads just fine. Everyone has different needs. If Bob for instance really needed flash, he probably wouldn't have an iPad.

I can't speak for anyone else here, but come summer I need a motorcycle to keep my sanity. Strangely enough I've noticed others who do fine without one. I'll never understand those people.

The detailed posts that try to convince me I have an inferior product are quite amusing. People that have never used an iPad and likely do not own a Xoom are busy convincing me that the device I love and that works perfectly for me is/was/will always be a mistake; I should have bought a Xoom, which might have the features the iPad lacks at some future point. Whew, as hard to read as it was to write.

And by the way, you do not have a motorcycle. That title is reserved only for real bikes like Vincent, Brough-Superior, and Indian. (Ducking with a smile)

Well said, my Biker friend. I am a fan, not a fan boy. I use my iPad and it works for me. No flash, is no problem. No incorporated SD card slot, no problem. No 4G, no problem.

The iPad is better because it was available when I needed a Tablet. No Xoom at the time. So for me, it is the clear tablet winner. Not better than brand X, just better than brand X for brand Bob.

Bob

This, I think, sums up my problem with Apple Fanboys (I'm not saying you are one Bob).

"iOS is missing something, so what? Obviously you don't need it, if it's not there. If you needed it... it WOULD be there."

Nope, not a Fanboy, just a fan. AND, to be perfectly honest, as much as I like the Android OS, had there been a variety of Android tablets to choose from, I might have still gone with an iPad for any number of legitimate reasons. After all, I want more of those Insanely Great white Apple stickers.

AND . . . . should some revolutionary new product arrive that makes the iPad look like a coal powered Abacus, I'll consider it. But after I have my iPad investment back. I can only guess at what will be available in two years from now.

As for not having Flash when I somehow need Flash, I'll simply DL Frash.

Just do what a friend of mine here at work did:

1) Get new Chromium OS netbook from Google for free.
2) Plop Apple logo sticker on the back.
3) ???
4) PROFIT!!!!!

:D

Most iPhone/Apple users could care less about Android. They literally do not care, not even remotely. I would wager many don't know what Android is, and may not have heard of it at all.

I find there is little antagonism from Apple owners toward android users. More likely, you'll get apathy, indifference and ambivalence on a good day. On a bad day, you'll get amusement for a variety of reasons.

I'm with you all the way up to "never even heard of Android". I would have to assume the number of people never to have heard of Android would be a fairly low figure, and would include mostly the Amish & other non-tech type people.

The Apple owner who's never even heard of Android likely doesn't know how to turn his iPad on.

:D

I am an Android user for 2 reasons.

1. I refuse to pay the money that companies are asking for an Iphone/Ipad. Just too expensive. I can think of something better to spend nearly

a lot of my friends when they say they want a knew phone say "I want an HTC" they have no idea what Android is, they just know that it's on my HTC and they've seen how amazing it is ;)

(Snippy)

2. I am not a cival rights activist or anything like that, but when Apple have put so much pressure for the manufactures to get the units out that 12 people have comited suicide, then surely something is wrong.

A look inside the Foxconn suicide factory - Telegraph

My rant over :D

Apparently, they employ 300,000 to 400,000 workers, so is 12 deaths such a big surprise? Small percentage of the Foxconn population.

Must be it. Apple product manufacturing causes mass suicide. Case closed, and it definitely was not perhaps something else, so don't you all dare to think anything else.

I personally think it was Dihydrogen Monoxide poisoning. Then again, according to the Telegraph, it WAS a suicide factory, so what do you all expect? If I work at a double fudge brownie with macadamia nuts factory, I expect to get fat. If I work at a suicide factory, I expect to jump to my happy death.

We Android users are also culpable. Acer, HTC, other brands, and a variety of Android Tablets are also built by Foxconn, so lets all save the Chinese and go back to Bell rotary phones. That is, unless they are built in a Suicide Factory, then I want no part of it.

To be fair, I think it is not an Apple issue as much as it is a management issue. You simply can't work people to death or that is what you get, death. Perhaps Apple needs to tell Foxconn to make changes or Apple will find another manufacturer.

There might be a language problem, but I know they speak money.

Hey Apple, try building them in Salt Lake City, Utah. I can pull my old team together and build them for you. Apple...... APPLE? Tap, Tap, this thing on?

Bob

that's not Apple's fault at all, they just pay companies to make stuff then let them manage it, so if they have horrible conditions for their workers, it's their fault. It's like when Primark draughted in firms to make clothing and they used child labour, it wasn't Primark's fault.
BBC NEWS | Business | Primark fires child worker firms
I should say though with 36 attempts, Apple should do something even if the first few weren't their fault
