I think a lot of what Benny would say would get by - especially his songs - because I don't think they knew that people would know what was said.

Sadly, those days are past those ARE all old shows.

We just have to wait and see what we'll get after it's old next season.

Nothing wrong with re-runs. I'd watch Red Dwarf from beginning to end right now if they aired it. And we didn't see many episodes of Hyperdrive - was it really only 6 shows?

BTW, I didn't mention other OSs, like webOS and WP7, because I don't feel like they have gained enough market traction to earn part of the timeless debate mentioned in this thread's title. They have their merits, as well. They just need time to become more relevant parts of the market.

On netflix they have 2 season of hyperdrive.

I didn't read the entire wall of text, but anything that is called "the Final Solution" can't end well.

Lets not go there.

I doubt there will be a final solution. Perhaps the final solution is called the 'Delete" key. I like what I like and that's that.

At the risk of being a bad, old, fart . . . There are three off topic threads within this thread:

Apple Vs. Us
Old TV shows from across the pond
MS and pirated software

Just saying . . .

By the way, I had such a crush on Felicity Kendal

Final solution? Ah, glad we can finally put all that nonsense to bed now then.

I'm glad you've found a solution for yourself, just don't bet the farm that the rest of the world will see things your way. I ran around for two years singing the praises of my last fiancee. Convincing everyone that she was the most beautiful, sexy, intelligent, driven, artistic, talented, fun and wonderful woman in the whole wide world. Well, evidently I finally convinced someone of it. And then she ran away with him.

That'll teach me to open me big, fat mouth. :(

Well no conversation of GREAT old UK shows would be complete without mentioning 'The Young Ones'!!! That show ROCKED, I was soooo happy MTV decided to air it over here across the pond.

Benny Hill and Blackadder aren't still being aired are they? LOL we still have them occasionally on one channel, but er... wow
You should come to Britain :)

Not quite sure what cable/satelite is like over there mate, but over here there are upwards of 1000 channels to be had... that means that EVERYTHING is still being aired. Somewhere. Sometime.

Well - it was a pretty dead thread until that stuff came up.

We could leave the Old TV Shows From Across The Pond and Felicty Kendal if that makes more sense.

(totally kidding on the last part! :D)

693 channels on my provider :)

I got 57 channels and nothing on. ;)

Try working in the IT world. It's insane out there. We do outsourcing for a number of different companies in town. I'll never forget we had a company call us once because they were thinking of firing the IT company they were using. We went in to do a site evaluation and found that they had 15-20 computers in the building and they had installed student editions of Office on every single one of them. We were appalled and told them we wouldn't be able to work with them unless they uninstalled those editions and purchased legal copies. This was a doctor's office that was using these student editions of Office. Needless to say, they did not choose to go with our company. $200+ bucks a pop for 20 computers did not fly with them.

Man! Your company missed a golden opportunity there! MS would have cut them a really sweet deal (Seriously).

I cant remember what the fines were at the time, but apparently they were stiff. Especially when Office is on a few hundred computers. And you can report illegal software use anonymously and earn rewards. That alone should convince people that eventually, somehow, some way, they will get caught. Think disgruntled worker bees.

Bob

MS fines were never really levied. MS almost always has offered really, really, really sweet deals to "legal up".

Not gonna lie. We were very tempted to report them to MS. We figured MS would drop the hammer on them and/or our competitor and probably on the competitor. But our boss didn't want to do business that way so we didn't.

If you guy sever get into that situation again, call up a MS sales guy, chat with them a bit about how much you could offer that company to "legal up". You'll be pleasantly surprised at what their offer is, and so will your client :)

I once legaled up a client with MS software. They got 2 servers (2000), an Exchange box, and 60 or 70 clients, with TS CALs for a song.

The client went with our offer because we got them such a great deal.

Yeah, but that doesn't fly with a new client. Even if MS gave them a really, really sweet deal at say $50 a box for 20 computers that still doesn't fly. You tell a client they need to spend $1k to become legal and they look at all their computers and all of them are working fine, they question whether you're pulling their chain. Try to convince someone to spend $1k on a system that they perceive is working just fine.

I have no issues either way. It is just that it is a tad confusing because other moderators get miffed when a topic ends up in OT land. Just saying . . .

Again, I love Felicity.
