What the heck is the deal with iphone users Vs Android users

Read his formal and very public statement regarding why no flash. He makes a number of valid points. Although some here will argue.

Bob

Regarding Flash. Flash was promised to mobile developers in 2001. Adobe failed to deliver for over 10 years. Sorry, in 2007, Steve Jobs brought up the CEO of Adobe and even hinted Safari would have plugins.

Fact is, Adobe failed to deliver. Over, and over, and Over. You do not give your supplier, vendor, partners a free ride when they fail to deliver that many times. It is like an abusive spouse that takes a beating from their husbands. At what point do you still give faith in a company that failed to deliver.

I'm sorry if the "pro-flash" folks can't see that. Or, would you prefer to stick to the meme that Jobs has an agenda out for Adobe. The company I worked for in 2001-2004 invested lots of money in promises from Macromedia (now Adobe). They didn't deliver full flash for Symbian nor Pocket PC. Sure, they had beta products and Flash-Lite but they never delivered what was promised. Again, they failed to deliver over, and over and over. 9-10 years in this business is like an eternity.

Maybe its the shiny metal back that attracts people to the iphone/touch devices. Like lil kids the go oooooh shiny and run after it. lol. Thats apple gimmick.

Lol I'm kinda wondering when it became "cool" to own a device with an Apple on the back of it. Like, at what point in time did that happen?

My guess was like 2003-2006ish

OK, so lets consider the thread topic. "Why iPad sucks and so does Apple..." OK, why exactly does the iPad suck? Some compare it to Xoom, but Xoom just arrived and you really can't blame Apple for lacking what some future product offers.

You can say that you prefer the Xoom because of A, B, and C. But your Xoom sucks because it does not have a Terabyte of memory and three dimensional surround sound like some future tablet. You cant blame the Xoom people for that.

The iPad was designed to be what it is and nothing more. I have 24 gigs of storage, I have every i/o port I need, I can use memory cards and flash drives, and Flash is not a great idea, so I will scratch that off your list.

My iPad does have 4G capability, I am told. Apparently, I can use a mobile Hot Spot like those offered by Sprint with my WiFi only iPad. So when I need to connect, 4G is entirely possible. Not built in like the higher end iPads, but (apparently) available. If not, so what, my device is fine the way it is and 4G does not matter one bit in my case.

So I am not sure why iPad and Apple sucks. Care to educate me?

Bob

The Xoom was released before the iPad 2; and somehow we can't fault Apple for releasing a product that is inferior in several regards?

Lessee... I release something BEFORE another person, and my product is better. Somehow, my competitor gets a pass because he released it afterwards...

And, I'm glad that 95% of the media content on the internet is not important to you. Enjoy your crippled internet.

And, if you add the mifi spot, tack on another $100 or so to the price comparison to the iPad when comparing it to the Xoom.

The Xoom is not flash capable at the moment. It's also not 4G capable at the moment so both of those don't even matter. The Xoom has 1 gb of RAM vs the iPad 2's 512. So it does have an advantage there. I will bet you any ammount of money you want to bet that the iPad runs just as snappy as the Xoom does even without that RAM. Apple has the luxury of customizing every facet of it's OS to work with it's hardware. Motorola doesn't. I've heard that the Xoom does not currently support MicroSD cards. It looks like the only port it has on it that the iPad doesn't is the mini-HDMI port. Apple supports this with a dongle. I can't see people choosing the Xoom over the iPad because they don't have to use a dongle. Again, the two are pretty damn close hardware wise.

The Xoom is Flash Capable. It's not loaded at outset; however it will be available (Even if not optimized). The iPad 2 will NEVER have it.

The 4G capability is available shortly, by sending it back to Motorola, and you will have 4G capability. The iPad 2 will NEVER have 4G.

The Xoom does not currently support microSD cards. It will, most likely when you send it back to get the 4G module installed. The iPad 2 will NEVER have that.

And, the iPad 2 requires you to spend another $40-60 to get the HDMI port. On the Xoom, it's there already. So, remember to tack $40-60 on the iPad price when comparing it to the Xoom...

...shiny backs together with 'magical' Apple logos.

It's called brand whoring. Many (probably less intelligent) people just love doing it. This is why there are just so many knock-off things with Apple logos here in China. When one sees a MacBook, which looks like a MacBook and says 'MacBook' on it, but it has a Windows key,... hmmm something is not right here. It always amazes me what they'll try and pass off as an iPhone. Any POS in all shapes and sizes, labelled 'iPhone' and given the Apple logo.

It's nothing new anyway, Nike(swoosh) and Ralph Lauren(pony) where masters of the art long before Apple.

BTW Sony has more than it's fair share of brand whoring fanboys as well.

Well I don't think it's so much branding. The ipad had very little done to it for the second version but look at the hype. Many successful product has a logo, but you as an individual have to look beyond that and free your mind.

Something that Apple has a definite advantage of so far in the tablet market are apps that are tailored for the iPad. I hope that Google will have large support for tablets that make quality apps.

'when negotiating partnerships with other companies, they tell them "my way or the highway."'

Fare enough. If a company doesn't want to do business following Apple's rules and standards, they can always find another to do business with, and will have to follow their rules and standards instead.

"the whole att situation really shows what apple really cares about the most; sucking you dry of your money. instead of releasing their phone across all carriers,"

Name one major manufacturer which releases ALL of its phones across ALL carriers?... Answer, probably none. HTC Evo exclusive to Sprint, etc, etc, .

"they signed an exclusivity deal with att. in return, they received a bigger margin of $ for each phone sold, and held att on a leash at the the expense of the consumers. i couldn't ever imagine google signing an exclusivity contract, because they just want their product to be in an open market."

Nothing to do with it. Google had an obligation to freely release Android because of its GPL'd open-source Linux component. FYI Google does NOT make phones(yet). Manufacturers like Samsung, LG, Motorola and HTC do. It's these manufacturers which sign exclusivity deals with the carriers.

Why is the Android side called an "army" while the Apple side is called a "team"? Team seems to have a more positive connotation than army.

we're not actually arguing though are we? just seeing how many each side gets. When people conduct surveys asking what smartphone OS people are next likely to go for, no one calls the voters fanboys do they? no
But when you get a group of fanboys together. It dont take long before they start spewing how great their device is against the others. Case in point look at all the apple vs android threads we have.

I'm a busy adult with more things to worry about than if somebody prefers iPhone or Android. In my opinion, it's just silly and juvenile to judge somebody based off what phone they use. I prefer Android, my friends prefer iPhone. In the end there is MUCH more to somebody than what they use to make phone calls.

The problem is, if Apple had its way, the only way you could make a phone call (especially a video chat) is with an iPhone.

Thats with any company. THey want everyone to use only their product and for them to be the best. Whats so wrong with that. When playing sports (if you play sports as I dont know.) Was you happy to settle for second place before the game started, or did you strive to try your very best to get first?

To me it matters why someone picks their phone. If someone picks an iPhone because they want a smartphone for dummies type device then fine. If they pick it because they've done research and honestly think iOS is better then fine. If they pick it because "zomg, it's apple and that's cool" then it drives me crazy. I work with a guy who honestly argues that the fact that I have Flash on my phone is a negative. Really? WTF?

Flash being a drawback is the same mindset of "choice" being a drawback. One person I've talked to called the choice in how to do various things a "user experience penalty".

The problem with that is that there really isn't a problem there at all. Since, you know... there are like thousands of other devices you can make phone calls on.

Crap, this is just great! What are the rules anyhow? If we go to battle vs. Apple and they win, does that mean we have to put iTunes on our Droids?

Down goes Apple.. down goes Apple...

hmm... I prefer Takeshi's Castle, I know the footage is pretty much the same, but the presenter is really witty and they don't overdub interviews, in fact, they don't have them.
Back to the point, it's just a bit of fun (for me anyway) and not an argument and there is no winner
