Veganish dinner: A couscous mix, among other grains with tofu, mushrooms, greens and roasted brussel sprouts.

Edit: Just told the wife about it and all she said was "fart city". :p

I had some peaches .. I wasn't that hungry cuz I had pizza for lunch They were really good ;) pleasantly surprised cuz they're not in season yet
 
I feel sick... been eating only white (whole grain though) bread, curd, pizza slice and popcorn and icecream... this is not a healthy food...
 
We had Mexican delivery last night too! :)

Delivery eh? That's far too easy. :) We haven't any shops that deliver here. It's likely a good thing or I would be eating it all of the time. :) Pizza is the only thing that gets delivered around here. Everything else you have to go fetch.... through a drive through or dine in sort of scenario.

Delivery options for us are pretty unlimited. I grew up in the boonies where, like Olbriar, is certainly not an option. Now, it's a nice option on your Friday night and don't feel like cooking. Seamless is certainly bookmarked in Chrome here. ;)
 
Finally made it to Rolls Meats and I received 1 free pound of bacon n cheddar sausage and picked out chili n cheese hamburger meat. Trying to decide which one to eat...I settled on one of each :D

We have quite a few butcheries in DC. May hit up the one at the local farmer's market this morning. Got some great kielbasa last weekend. :)
 
Jealous. I love calabrese sausage. Not terribly spicy but has a nice bight. :)
I think these folks have another spicy sausage I'll have to check out (they're often out of it though).
These folks also set up shop at the market (their store is a little ways from us) and have some good stuff though pricey.

I'm marinating pieces of chicken breast in soy sauce with garlic, some lemon juice & mustard, going to drop 'em to a pan for a couple of minutes, remove, then fill same pan with various veggies and add chicken back. Plus, I'm going to add a can of beans with tomato sauce to make it more filling. Developer food!

Just to be a bit pretentious, I'm going to decorate all that with some nuts and onion chives.
 
Anyone have a FoodSaver? Like it or hate it?

I'm on my second one as I burned out my first with use. If you are going to freeze any fresh meats it is a must as they will taste just as fresh when you use them. I will often use it to marinade as the vacuum opens the meat and lets the flavors seep in. You can even put the marinade in when you freeze the meat. Liek I said, I use it all the time and for any meat.

Which one do you have? Is the pump fixable/replaceable instead of buying new? I'm thinking of getting the one that costs $70 - 80 depending on where you go?

The one I have now is roughly 5 years old and is well used. I wouldn't worry about replacement parts as they just get cheaper and better each time. If I were to replace mine now, there is one for $120 at Sam's club with all the bells and whistles. That's still $60 less than I paid for the one I have now that is far more basic.

The only thing you really need to be careful of is sucking meat juices or marinade into the pump. I just leave a little extra length to the bag and hold it below the sealer when vacuuming out the air. Just place the sealer on the edge of a counter or table.
 
I've never owned one. My sister swears by hers. Raising a family of six it never seemed to be a need to save foods. We ate the stock faster than I could buy it. :eeK:

Tonight I'm having one of my favorite meals. Last night I prepared a meatloaf. Tonight I'm having meatloaf sandwiches lol. Toast the bread.... add a slice of cheese... mmmmmm.

The top one is roughly the equivalent of what I have now. I never buy the premade bags, It's cheaper to buy the rolls and make them yourself, plus you have the benefit of sizing them more appropriately.

I remembered another thing I did with it relative to marinade and making your own bags. A couple years ago I had a large family picnic. I smoked 40 pounds of pulled pork and 25 pounds of ribs. To ease the stress of close term prep, I removed all of the ribs from the cryopacks, removed the membrane, coated them in mustard as I normally do when I smoke pork, and added my rub. I was then able to make bags large enough to hold the entire rack (I think I had 12 racks total), seal them, and put them back in the fridge. It got me about 4 hours of prep done a few days early instead of the night before. Day of the picnic I just pulled them out of the fridge an hour before the pulled pork was set to come out of the smoker, unwrapped them, and put them in.
