it's hot and humid in So. California .
Well, yes, it is more humid than it was, but it's still NOTHING compared to other places I've lived.
well it is still gross though. i'm miserable today. where is the breeze??????

I've been commercially mowing properties for thirty years and I've never seen the grass die from lack of moisture and the humidity over 50% daily. 2020 has proven to be more than the grass can take. 91° with 40% humidity as I type.

Except for my laundry fess, this summer would be cool.
I just got in from mowing in the soup. 91° and 48% humidity is no fun for AM weather.
@MoodyBlues are you still experiencing rolling blackouts? My daughter in your area was telling her mother about it yesterday. Sounds like a bummer for sure.

This was the first time since I moved home that it had happened. Luckily, enough people cooperated with instructions to reduce electricity use that it was short-lived.
No one I know had their power cut.
But we're still in for our hottest weather, September and well into October. We'll see how that goes.
I hope you're drinking plenty of water and being mindful of cooling off periodically. That 'soup' you're mowing in is nothing to take lightly.

It takes more energy to lower the temp of a dwelling vs maintaining it. I'm sure they know what they are doing but blackouts don't seem to be a fix to me. It's good that your community is cooperating in conserving and staggering usage without blackouts.I'm guilty of not consuming liquids while mowing. The jostling of the mowers makes me ill when I have much liquid in my stomach. I do tank up following my mowing with lots of liquids.

I would not advocate that those not acclimated to the heat and humidity attempt working in these conditions without ample hydration. I do it daily so my body is somewhat ready for the brutality of working outside. I appreciate your concern.96° with 41% humidity as I type.

Regarding the rolling blackouts, apparently they only last about an hour each, according to what I learned last week. So if you're careful not to let the cool air out, an hour isn't too terribly bad. I'm still glad it didn't happen, though!
Did I ever tell you about that time, in Dallas, when my central AC unit died--in August? And no one could replace it for a few days? Or that other time, when a transformer blew out, and we were without power for almost four days--in [a different] August? Both times we sat out on the patio, dousing ourselves and our 'kids' with hoses...
Can you keep a bottle of Gatorade [or similar] with you when you're mowing, and just take little sips every so often? That should prevent those tummy issues, but still help keep you hydrated.
I've suffered some extended outages due to city wide downed trees taking out power lines. It's no fun. I once lost my natural gas for a few days in sub zero January weather. That too was no fun.
As for drinks, I sometimes take a cup of coffee with me when mowing. Just a sip now and then isn't bad. I've never tasted Gatorade or any similar drink. Truth is, I don't drink anything but coffee, tea, and beer with a rare glass of milk or V8 now and then. I've likely consumed less than a gallon of water in the last fifty years. With these sizzling temperatures, we're hearing that the beaches will likely be packed over Labor Day weekend. The last two times that happened resulted in big spikes of COVID-19 cases. When will people learn?
I just got in from mowing dripping wet. 91° and 42% with zero wind. However, looking at my 10 day forecast, I see that next Wednesday's high is 61° with an overnight low of 50°. Wowza, that will be a 40 degree swing in less than a week.
A week? Pshah. We swing like that in a day in Boston. It's true "If you don't like the weather in Boston just wait a few minutes." I love this town.

the sun just set here in LA and i was hoping the weather would ease up enough for me to have a cigar and drink a glass of bourbon......NOPE!!!!!!!
