Help Whats your beef with the X?

Wow! Awesome! Thanks! The zooming is prefect now!

I'm not thrilled with the speaker, how you can't disable the double tap shortcut (messes with quick desk), and not being able to disable camera sounds (root should fix it).

Also the small text rendering isn't the best, but rumor has it the next update will fix it. These are just nitpicks though, this phone is fantastic, and a HUGE step up from the droid and incredible.

I think the small text looks fine how small are you talking? I've been looking for the "jaggies" I've heard about but so far I haven't seen any.

My nit pick is the buttons.
Not that I think there cheap or anything but touch sensitive would be much better when they are docked. As they are, if you try to push them when it's docked you actually move the dock so you have to kind of hold it and then push. You can do it one handed so it's not big deal still just a light touch or a softer pressing button would be better. IMO. And whats with the buttons not lighting up until you press one? I need to see them so I know what/where to press. :D

Coming from the iPhone 3G, I have many complaints with the droid all of which were non issues on the iPhone.

1. The droid has horrible graphics, thumbnails etc just look pixelated et
2. Zooming in on text is horrible
3. The size is ridiculous and is annoying to have in your pocket
4. You can't click on google image thumbnails
5. Text messages don't instantly display on your screen
6. Text messages are a huge pain to delete, it's nota simple swipe and delete like the iPhone
7. You can't just click on a contacts image to change the image and it creates a second image in the same area of your images for a contact image
8. The stupid app icons are so close together you constantly open theM by accident
9. The email interface looks ancient on low def
10. Text in general looks low def
11. Contact thumbnails look low def
12. iPhone runs all similar apps better and the graphi's are better
13. Music on iTunes is better managed
14. Sound quality on iPhone for playing music is better. There are tons of artifacts from the droid x medIa player
15. You don't need an uninstaller program to delete apps on the iPhone. You just hold your finger over the app and click delete.
16. Having an HDMI output and buying the cable angered me because there is no video out.

I give this phone a 7 out of 10 when compared to the iPhone. It has a few better thugs (most of which are useless and just technicalities)

You say it is to big did you go in blind when you bought the phone and get it? I mean any person that read anything about the X realized it was large i mean if you want a small phone with a small screen stick with the iphone idk how u can complain about that just worthless bitching IMO

Fanboys need not respond. This thread was complaints and that was one complaint. You would assume a larger screen would equate to better or similar graphics to a small phone and that's not the case. The tradeoff for a much larger screen with worse graphics is not worth the extra size in my opinion.

You keep saying graphics like it's a game. Do you mean resolution? I'm assuming you're saying the images are not sharp enough on the X. If that is what you mean, then fair enough. The Iphone does have better resolution. But the X is not that bad. Other than text on a webpage when the screen is zoomed out, everything else looks pretty good.

edit: I just realized you are comparing the X to iphone 3G. I take back what I said. You have no idea what you are talking about.

The 3g is a pixelated mess with 25% less ppi and several of the things you said are just wrong.

lol....I know no phone is perfect, but cmon. Horrible?

lol.

1. I cant believe that. U talking about the browser?
2. I will give u that
3. Preference. It fits in my pockets fine, with room for more things. And my pants are not baggy.
4. I give u that
5. I dont know
6. lol...U long press then choose delete (I smell something funny here...lol)
7. Dont know.
8. No....lol
9. Dont see that...lol
10. No...lol
11. Dont know.
12. The 3G graphics are better? I dont really know.
13. Dont know.
14. Dont know.
15. I'll give u that.
16. I'll give u that

Only reason I did this is cuz the person used horrible and huge pain. Huge pain to long press and choose delete...lol If u have beef with the phone, have some real beefs. The ones where I didnt know or agreed with u, those seem like real beefs.

My beef is with the preinstalled apps like Blockbuster, city Id, Amazon MP3, and backup assistant that cannot be deleted from the phone. I came from a Moto Droid that I had rooted and I had total freedom on exactly how it looked and ran. I like the hardware on the droid X, but having a locked bootloader and a bunch of useless apps that I can't get rid of is making me second guess my decision. I should have total control over what is on my phone, instead I have bloatware using up all the memory, eating the battery, and I am powerless to do anything about it.
Perhaps I'll look into the incredible. Shame on motorola and verizon for denying their customers the right to choose what is on their phones.

Whoa, whoa...all of a sudden someone's 'beefs' of the Droid X have to be 'real' according to you or others who do not agree? I believe this thread was intended for the users sole opinion which is in fact what kprst6 did. These are his complaints about the phone and obviously not everyone will agree but to say his opinions aren't 'real' is kind of ridiculous. These complaints are probably very real to this person.

Also, as being a prospective buyer, I read these type of threads and rely on my own judgment towards exactly what 'beef' may bother me depending on the consistency of the complaints. This of course I only use as a guide. There is no better way to judge a user experience than by actually experiencing it myself.

Keep em comin' though, this thread is a valuable resource to not only highlight the devices' drawbacks but to show what Motorola and Verizon should do to improve it.

That's the one thing that pops out at me that makes be wonder about the veracity of the poster. Text is simply awful on the pre 4 Apples. I have an iTouch and iPad and the Droid/X resolution is miles ahead. You simply can't read small text on them....you're constantly zooming.

A little overly dramatic don't you think?

1. To be fair VZW as added apps to EVERY phone they ever put on their network. You shouldn't be surprised to find it on the X. I'll also bet you every carrier does it.

2. Just like your beloved Droid it needs rooting before we can remove them JUST like EVERY android phone out there.

3. None of those apps listed except CityID are even doing anything. If you don't want them ignore them until the phone is rooted then remove.

4. The one BIG BEEF I have with the bloatware is apps that nag you once their trail period is over and yet you can't delete or turn it off, CITYID anyone. When that happens we should all take our phones to VZW and demand them to turn it off , remove it, or buy the app for us so we can shut it up. But at this time I don't know if maybe Moto added an option to uninstall or stop the nag, we'll see.

So Shame on you for making a stink about something you know damn well was going to be there, and what it would take to remove them, when you bought the phone.

I believe the issue is more with how the comments are presented. For one thing, the complaints are stated much more as facts rather than opinions and when facts are presented it seems fair to ask that support be presented. Also, several of the items noted do not really seem to be complaints about the Droid X as much as they are saying they prefer the iPhone or in some cases, simply that they are used to the iPhone operation. Presenting the same complaints and even the same list in multiple threads also probably doesn't help the perception.

So in my personal opinion, the list would make a lot more sense in this thread if it was limited to perceived Droid X issues and did not include perceived iPhone advantages, those are probably best addressed in other discussions.

How can you comment? Have you ever owned an iPhone before? If you have an issue, its usually because you have compared it to something before, otherwise the product would be the latest and greatest that you couldn't really complain about if it had revolutionary new features. How do you know comments aren't facts? Forums are ridiculous when people comment on things that they have never experienced themselves.

1. Very Poor music playback quality compared to my ipod touch
2. Bloatware
3. My mail wouldnt work without K-9 mail. WTF

1. The touch is a dedicated music device this is a phone.
oh look :D I happen to have my touch and DX right here (for real) on my desk ...hang on a few test are in order.................

Oh and I'm no audio head with $500.00 ear buds just an average music listener that likes a wide verity of music.

Speaker test: DX wins hands down. The speaker on the touch is bad and has no volume. You have to hold it to you ear to hear it.

Ear buds: Did you actually try listening to the two side by side? Because I seriously think the X was better. I listened to a variety of music and would listen to a the same section about 10 times then switch to the other device and do the same. I was actually shocked at how much better the X was better because I thought the eTouch would be better. Now like I said I'm not even an avid music listener and this was with a pair of 20.00 ear buds. So the best I'll give this test is a tie but IMO the X won. But it is no where to even being close to poor compared to the touch. IMO it was better.

I hope you don't think I'm being all fanboy-ish:D is that a word? but I did really did have them both setting here as I read the post so gave it a quick side by side test. And after doing it I have to wonder if you compared them or just went by memory.

2. Bloatware has been on EVERY phone since the stone age you have to know that it will be there by now. Is this your first phone? Sit back relax and wait for root access.:D

3.. My mail works fine with k9 or the default. What was the problems you were having? Was it a corp exchange account or just gmail or something like that?

The volume and ringtones aren't very loud.

The battery isn't great but it's getting better as I go into the 4th day.

I'm not happy with the camera for stills although the video is amazing.

The voice recognition works great even with my southern drawl although it doesn't work 1oo% of the time and cause a freeze from time to time. I may have this fixed by going back to the basic keyboard.

I love the size and weight of the phone more then the original droid.

I didn't like that initial activation took almost 2 hrs, Im in San Diego and bought the phone on day 1.

I have an IMAP account and my yahoo account. Neither would push so I needed K9. Also the sound quality is really poor especially on pandora. I know pandora streams and all that but on my BB curve i was able to play very high quality pandora streams and now i cant even listen it it its so poor even on high quality settings :(

Ive seen the same thing on another droid x.

And yeah ive listened to both side by side on a Hi-Fi home audio system.

This isnt just a phone and in a device like this i shouldnt have to make a compromise when there is 32 GB possible of music space. CMON man it should sound better than it does

Did u actually read my response? I never said it wasnt real. Again, I agreed with some of the things they posted. I think "horrible" and "huge pain" are exaggerations tho.

Do you think long pressing and choosing Delete is a "huge pain" to delete a text message vs. swiping to delete? I will even agree that swiping to delete is better. But long pressing and choosing Delete is not a "huge pain." Drilling down into many menus is a huge pain.

Like I think LCD's are sharper than Amoled. I dont think Amoled's have "horrible" sharpness tho.

That's the one thing that pops out at me that makes be wonder about the veracity of the poster. Text is simply awful on the pre 4 Apples. I have an iTouch and iPad and the Droid/X resolution is miles ahead. You simply can't read small text on them....you're constantly zooming.

If you have 20 text messages in your inbox and have to "hold down" and then press delete, it is indeed a pain compared to swiping and hitting delete. Again, these are complaints about the phone. Everyone acts like its life or death when commenting about the complaints. Maybe its good that they are posted and made aware so they can potentially be enhanced with future updates/devices.

And some of yall are acting like its life or death if we dont agree with the complaints..So where does that leave us...lol

Funny thing is, I actually agreed with some the complaints on that list...lol

Swipe and delete......long press and delete.....I'm sorry, I dont see the "huge pain" Its not like the long press is for a minute...

And they way u explained the first time, I thought the swipe deleted it. I didnt know u had to swipe and hit delete....

Personally I think complaints with the software should be kept separate from those with the hardware... I'll only list my problems with the hardware as that would be with the phone itself (vs software being with Android, unless its Blur specific).

Speaker: The external speaker is atrocious. I'm not sure if it is because of the size of the slit or the speaker itself, but if there is any ambient noise I can't hear my music/movies. This includes hearing my ringtones as well...

Camera Button: Like others have said, this thing just sucks. I understand having the two level button (focus and capture; my complaint isn't with this), but I've only played with it for a little bit and have already missed quite a few pics because, if pressed in the wrong manner, it fails to capture a pic.

Kickstand/Front Camera: There isn't one, lol. I knew they weren't included when buying it, but really would love them so I could make Skype video calls to my overseas friends without having to whip out a laptop. This is the only issue I have that leaves me with buyer's remorse in the slightest.

A solution to my qualms would be a simple Desk Charger-esque accessory with a camera and some slightly better speakers for if I want to make my Skype calls or watch movies.

1. Cases are not compatible with the car kit. This is super ghey. I am really dissapointed in that because I LOVE the look of the clear snap on case but that damn thing is so hard to remove to put on the car dock that I had to return it for the black hard silicone case (which I actually quite like now but its not as aesthetically pleasing as the clear snap case) I am in the car 9 hours a day so the phone will be sitting in the car kit a lot.
2. Battery life is mediocre. I payed with it for 2 hours after I got it and it needed life support. 5 more hours of playing (including using the GPS with the car kit and charger attatched) and it needed a boost again from the charger.
3. The wall charger is short as ****!
4. I had to pull the battery 4 times today due to the phone freezing. WTF!?!?!?
5. It does run hot. I DLed a battery app that measured the battery temp at 107 degrees at one point.
6. Disappointed with initial camera quality (hoping the software update fixes this)

Overall I am satisfied and maybe a nice good overnight charge will do the trick and I'll go from satisfied to elated. Now if it stops freezing all together I'll be blown away.

WOW. There is a removable liner in the car dock. The only reason I can see for this is to accommodate a case.

My battery life is the best I have ever gotten from a smart phone.

Mine has only froze up one time. Maybe you have an app causing the freeze up issue

My camera takes better pictures than my Incredible and way better pics than my Droid 1. If you want better pics maybe you should buy a camera. Have you ever noticed how a good camera is the same size if not bigger than the Droid X and all it does is pictures?

I wish the hard-press buttons were instead soft press... and whassup with the flimsy-ass camera button. I feel like it's going to break every time I touch it.
