Root Who's used Koush's ROM?

Does anyone know why after I flash the ROM then boot the phone up it, the phone will boot to the red eye then it suddenly shuts off and I can't get the phone to turn back on. I have to do a battery pull the hold X to reload my old ROM.

Anyone able to help please??? Thanks

Yeah, it is easy...Droidmod updater makes it really easy. I just initially wanted to avoid switching recoveries all the time to load new roms in different nandroid formats...oh well, if I must...I must ;)

Edit: Man, I need to use that damn refresh button so I don't answer questions that get answered 15 minutes earlier! :)

LOL

I think I will like this ROM, hopefully battery life will be good, but I have to admit, this is flying and I only have it at 600MHz

Are you attempting to flash to Houshik's ROM? If so, you cannot flash over an existing ROM - you'll need to wipe Data and Cache, and it is recommended to format System as well. Of course this is if you're using SPRecovery.

If you have installed ROM manager, are you following the steps listed on Koushik's page verbatim?

OK, my short benches dropped from mid 220s to high 180s with JIT enabled, and long bench dropped from high 790s to low 310s - wow.

I'm off to start pushing my apps back to the phone to see what breaks lol.

What ROM are you coming from? You want to clear data and cache at a minimum. See the post that Fabulous made earlier where he cleared everything (including system) using adb.

Also, are you using the Rom manager...I think that works better with this rom as it installs Clockwork Orange (I meant recovery) ;)

Edit: Dammit John! You beat me again! lol

Whoa. I just tried a stress test and got the following msg:

Koush's CM 5.0.4.2 JIT enabled Strss test error.jpg

WTF?

Nah, I like the company. Actually, I really just read what you post and then I say basically the same thing so I can sound smart!

IM coming from droidmod ROM, and I am using Rom manager. What post is it that Fabulous made?

So I manually rebooted the phone using ADB - and now it is going into a boot loop.

FML. I must be an Uber masochist lmfao....

Here is Fab's post...I think this is a REALLY good idea to make sure you get a nice clean start.

Just loaded this using SPRecovery and the update.zip method.

My kernel and Mod Version match the proper values.

For those who want to try this and do NOT want to flash Clockwork recovery, just make sure you adb shell into recovery and:

format DATA:
format CACHE:
format SYSTEM:

before you allow and install update.zip

Perfect clean install without any hassle.

I'll follow up on this later once I get all my apps and settings redone.

UPDATE: Well, I had some issues, it reboot twice on my while setting up my settings. I dunno why, but I was charging and doing a lot of downloading, so it got a bit hot.

But...THIS ROM IS FAST AS HELL!!

12.5Mflops @ 1GHz without JIT?! 303ms LONG benchmark in SetCPU?

More to come.

no Multimedia app when in the Dock... :(

I do like Launcher2 and the speed even at the slower clock of 600MHz

I will try it for a few days.. worst case I will go back to Pete's v0.7

BUT so far so good, I even added the Cool NexTheme

Hmm, then it may be the JIT - but my reboot loop is probably caused by me setting SetCPU OCing to the performance governor out of habit as I ahve been doing in UD6.x and UD7.0 lol.

I am flashing back to the Koushik ROM and hopefully that should fix my issues, at least until I can change the SetCPU values.

IDK I can't seem to get it to work, everytime it boots up it just shuts off on the red eye and I have to pull the battery to restore my backup

One thing I have noticed when I had the ROM working without any glitches:

Whenever the phone is booting up I keep getting messages from Win7 that the device can perform faster if it is plugged into a USB 2.0 port - but all my ports are 2.0.

Hmm, I think I am forcefully booting both computer and phone and then starting from scratch lol....

Just put the "Dock.apk" file on the root of your SD card and then use ADB to install (I think it is removed in this release but I haven't verified).

Code:
adb shell
busybox cp sdcard/Dock.apk /system/app

Hmm...I've seen that before with other ROMs. I'm not sure that is the problem. I'm chalking it up to JIT, starting fresh with 5.0.4.2, then play with JIT later (I don't have any experience with it so TGIF!).

I just updated it over itself and it took care of the JIT issue. It is not performance b/c I ma stress testing right now (~8 minutes into a 15 min test) and my temp is 125F but it is going strong, not killing anything.

Rebooting the computer did not hep the issue of the USB port demanding a 2.0 port. I dunno, but something is amiss here - I'll try contacting Koushik via twitter and seeing if there is a known issue.

You like this better than UD v7.0?

Well, I can't say yet - I haven't pushed my apps back to the phone and set everything back up yet, so I'll reserve judgment for now.

I was going to switch... but the only thing that I see better is the launcher, which blackdroid says he is updating tomorow :D. So I'm sticking with UD
