Root [WIP][DEV] Custom Recovery/Bootloader unlocking Work In Progress Thread

I have the partitions but this far don't know how to fully extract the aboot image I've only managed to partially extract it. Reflashing a repacked boot. Img or recovery also throws security error. I'm not yet sure if its digitally signed or checks file size. I've a few more ideas to test, first making the altered recovery same size As original to see if it throws error code still. I believe I may have also have another solution up my sleeve :-D

It has already been determined by Plasticarmyman that those tools need a special system card that must be purchased from that company in order to access the files. But even if you could I doubt if it will prove fruitful because if thats all it would take to unlock the bootloader it would have been done months ago. Those tools are mostly used for opening the sim card permissions and making changes to those settings.

I just recieved a reply from LG concerning the bootloader. What they sent me links to is for all the LG phones source code, in other words the firmware info files and permissions. They include all the firmwares C-F but unfortunately do not give a link for version B, which is the firmware that the devs are looking for.

That source isn't the full source anyways. They only release the full kernel source. The source they give to make a ROM, won't build because its less than half of it.

there only obligated tp release kernel source, the rest isn't.(some is i believe part of GPL) anyways LG wont be releasing source or unlocking unless they see a real reason to do so

4,000+ signatures on the petition to unlock bootloaders, ~ 4,000 ppl who won't buy their phones again. At $200 a phone, that's like $800k. Loss.

That's a bad estimate, but I know that if lg doesn't change, I won't be buying another one of their devices.

more like its just for the emulator and they arent require to release the android src its under the apache license.

Kernel src LG has been good at releasing, some times a lil slow, but they release it usually 100% full. Only things I seen them leave out is proprietary stuff for stuff like wifi etc depending on which wifi chip was used. Oh and hdmi src in the esteems but the revos had it. lol

i mean LG is standing strong but its also metropcs fault lg can't unlock them without metros consent, or they start offering a unlock method which will void warranty no matter what... and most likely wont offer a relock method meaning no way bak unless u have insurance

I dont know if MetroPCS gives a snot or not, but all LG's with ICS+ have been locked and only a few with unlock methods or were lucky enough to be able to use mako's (Nexus4) bootloader.

I would say they should unlock them, more money for both LG and Metropcs, people brick and more than likely they're gonna go buy another....

I think all devices should be unlocked. I paid for it, thus I should be able to do wtfe I want with it.

thats how i feel about any phone as well, owning 2 phones with locked bootloaders(HTC Hero, DROID Incredible), HTC started the htcdev bootloader unlock method which made many users happy and worked wonders, yet some people believe HTC is doing this to attract customers instead of helping developers...if LG released a unlock method it would be for multiple devices and not a single one. What if LG is deciding not to release it because it may be used to unlock other devices?

Plenty of LG phones have been unlocked and all with different methods. LG is (hopefully just really slow about it). I'm currently looking into kexec myself but have a few more things to try like correct boot and recovery size images. Just gotta find time.

Well for one I will never buy another locked device for my personal device again (Dev work excluded) regardless who makes it. Motorola comes out with a kickass device w/o a locked bootloader I'd prolly jump on it... 'cough' xphone!!!

same here...only reason i ever got a locked device is because it was a gift, im not aure if the new moto phone will be locked knowing moto maybe but since google took over maybe

Actually the end result paying 50 dollars for a phone like this is worth it to me
It sat next to a Wildfire for 129 dollars with no rebates
Yeah i want unlocked and the fm radios and the 5g wifi and modified kernel and better roms
But still is awesome for me
I doubt i will get an unlocked phone this nice for anywhere close to the same price.

only carrier it might be locked on is Verizon, but hopefully Verizon just wont be allowed to have it if they insist on it being locked.

price doesnt matter in my eyes...
yea, to me $350 for a Nexus is well worth the freedom. ;)

But The Motion is more than just $50 although some of you did get that deal. Currently its $149 with a $50 mail in rebate... and we all know how quick Metro is at sending those rebates. lol

But yes, The Motion is worth its money for the specs you get. I wouldnt be able to deal with its display, too use to bigger and better. ;)

Metro doesn't even allow flashed phones on their carrier anymore..they are moving away from good ol' metro days when you could do what you wanted, they want to a legit company. I 'member when you could have a funny name as your account name lol. My buddy never changed his number, and "Snoop Dogg" shows up as his Caller ID name. Metro doesn't even allow these things anymore.

Metro is scared that people will see their company as crappy service, lots of phones being "hacked and ruined"...in the public eye, would be a bad thing. In all seriousness though, for their actual customers, it would be an amazing thing to have unlocked phones.
