Root You can now unroot revolutionary

I call myself a newbie- but I've spent so many hours doing this over the years- maybe I'm a helpless rooter.
There's no doubt I didn't follow the instructions to the letter in post one and it didn't work.
Then I went back use revolutionary and I did get the hboot switched back to 6.16....then I followed the instructions in post 1 again.
Still no luck... now I'm back to Hboot 2.16.0001

Is there any other possible thing that I am doing incorrect? Previously- an RUU file use to always work.. not sure why they no longer work.. and I've tried a bunch.
When you chose an RUU- what are you looking for?

My phone now says
SUPERSONIC EVT3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT 2.16.0001
RADIO 2.15.00.05.02

Thanks in advance

you have to be careful what PC36IMG file you are using. they are generic and can be anything. you need to take it step by step. first you need to get s-on. so run the PC36IMG file to get s-on. verify that it gave you s-on then proceed to the next step on turning your hboot back and getting stock recovery and rom back.

are you naming the first file correctly? it needs to be PC36IMG (no extra zips)exactly. does it ask you to update? what does it do?

How would you verify that you are getting s-on? It still shows s-off after the PC36IMG file updates. It also still shows s-off after the phone reboots.

ok i think the issue is with your hboot. your hboot needs to be 6.16 which is what revolutionary gives you when you root. so since you have hboot 2.16, my guess is that you hboot is interfering in getting your securities back on. i would try and run revolutionary again and see if it will change your hboot back to 6.16. once that is done then flash this:PC36IMG6.17.zip and make sure that you rename it to PC36IMG. get hboot to update it and then double check that you have s-on.

once you ave s-on then flash this ruu:
PC36IMG_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.53.651.1_Radio_ 2.15.00.0808_NV_2.15_release_209995_signed.zip
make sure that you delete the previous PC36IMG off of your card before you get the two files mixed up. and again let hboot update and you should be good to go after that.

Thanks for your help- that still didn't work. The PC36IMG6.17.zip updates..but never did change the phoen to S-on.

Sounds like my issue is very similar if not the same as Eltacos above.

However, on my attempt- I know have a black screen... I think this is referred to as the black screen of death. The phone is unresponsive at all except for the screen turning on black. It may be over for me.

When I try to choose recovery- nothing.
However, when I choose volume up- I do get the three vibrates... not sure if that is something that in the end might mean that there is life left to this phone or not.

Reply back anyone if that's the case. Thanks AGain for your help

works like a champ thanks everyone

Trying to Unroot and following "for Dummies" instructions. I have run 6.17; now at Hboot version 6.17 with S-on. Downloaded the stock zip file (120+mg). copied to root of SD card and renamed to PC36IMG.zip. Restarted EVO (Volume down and Power buttons). EVO sees the zip file, loads, then checking zip message then nothing (waited 10 or more minutes and did not recieve message to update. Went into recovery and tried to flash zip from SD. received message "can't find update script".

Next??

Thanks folks.

[ROM]RUU_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.53.651.1_Radio_2.15 .00.0808_NV_2.15_release - xda-developers

HISTORY:
I had enough of all the bugs with the OTA Gingerbread update, so I set out to downgrade back to Froyo.

I rooted using Revolutionary, then used RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15. 00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.exe to take me back to a stock Sprint FroYo ROM. I assume this also un-rooted me, which is fine.

*However*, when I boot the phone while holding the down-volume button it still says HBOOT-16.6.1002, it still shows S-OFF, and it still says "Revolutionary" at the top.

QUESTION:
How can I revert to the correct older hboot version, remove S-OFF and remove all references to Revolutionary? I want the phone to look like a stock phone that never did the OTA update for Gingerbread.

I saw this thread here, but I'm not sure if that will give me the correct version of everything (hboot, etc.) that came with FroYo.

ok if you rooted with revolutionary then you need to use the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. it has an unrooting section. basically it is a two step process where first you need to get s-on then next you need to put the stock rom and recovery on your phone. unfortunately though, you will not b able to get s-on and downgrade to froyo. since you have gingerbread before you rooted that is all you can go back to. however, you can flash a froyo stock rom if you like, but you will still have s-off.

If you really want to do this, I can help you, but it'll be somewhat involved.

Whats up Cap! I'm interested in knowing how this can be achieved, just to know how it can be done. You never know when it can come in handy.;)

Quick Question, you the same Capthrowback as over at the mikmik?

Yup, I am the one and only. Apparently "Captain_Throwback" is too long a username for this forum.

So, how to do it - it's actually not that complicated. The key is the android_info.txt file in the PC36IMG.zip file. That determines the "Main Version" number, which, when you're S-ON, is the lowest ROM version that it'll let you install (either via RUU or through HBOOT). The key is to choose a low number. In the attached zip, I've used 1.00.000.0. There aren't any ROM version numbers that low, so you should be able to use any RUU or PC36IMG with a valid HTC signature to update the device once the NAND is re-locked (even Eclair, I believe).

I hex-edited a downgradable HBOOT version (0.97) to be 6.97, so it'll install & overwrite Revolutionary. It *may* lock your NAND (i.e. S-ON), and if it does, then you can just go ahead and run the latest Froyo RUU (3.70) and you'll be all set. If not, you'll need to run the unrevoked S-ON zip, which should re-lock the NAND. The catch is that your radio needs to be 2.15.00.11.19 or older. If you're running Froyo, that's no problem. If you happen to still be running Gingerbread, you're stuck running a Froyo RUU to downgrade it, and then you have to re-lock the NAND, and then re-run the RUU.

That's all!

I went through the first portion and everything went fine. Updated and now i have s-on.

But when i start the hboot for the second portion to put the stock rom on it isnt working. It loads the pc36img file, then just does back to the hboot screen. It never ask me to update like it did when i started the first pc36IMG file to get s-on.

looks like this...

when i reboot the phone the mikrom ive been using loads right up. Ive already formatted my sd card. Also, the other RUU file the directions says to use doesnt work, it has an error and says to download the right RUU.
Any help here?

Howdy. welcome to the forums.

I have never done this, Just wondering if you have named the file exactly right?

Sorry i forgot to add in my post. I have confirmed a 100 times that the file is named correctly and it is in the right file. Thats not the problem. Thanks for the reply tho!

hey guys,
so i decided to mix the instructions up a little and see if more people have better success getting the ruu to work so i made it so that you run the ruu first then get s-on after.

hope this helps people out. i'm also thinking that maybe people may have to flash either a 4.53 rom or a 4.24 rom to unroot as well, since the ruu is for 4.53.

gonna switch it up in the dummies guide as well.

ok so i will start this thread going but i will also add this to the op of the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html.

so here goes.
first we need to get a stock rom and stock recovery
1.download this file:PC36IMG_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.24.651.1_Radio_ 2.15.00.05.02_NV_2.15_release_199233_signed
2.rename the file to PC36IMG. again make sure that you do not add a zip as windows hides extensions.
3.connect your phone via usb to the pc and transfer the file over to the root of the sd card.
4.power off then press and hold power+vol down.
5.hboot should see the file and will ask you to update, select yes.

we need to get s-on
6.download this file:PC36IMG6.17.zip
7.rename the file by deleting the numbers so that it is only PC36IMG and do not add any zip to the name as windows hides extensions.
8.transfer the zip file to the root of the sd card. also delete the previous PC36IMG file. make sure that you do not get the two files mixed up as they will be named the same.
9.power off (make sure that fastboot is turned off) then press and hold power+vol down.
10.hboot should scan for it. select yes to update.
11.reboot your phone

if you have s-on then congrats you are now unrooted!:D

you can also use this ruu:[ROM]RUU_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.53.651.1_Radio_2.15 .00.0808_NV_2.15_release to get you the latest ota stock rom and stock recovery.

With the ROM that you provided (the 4.24.x) and after you have S-on, can you update to the latest through HTC Software updates on the phone?

ooops:o you now i forgot to update this thread to the 4.53 ruu that is out. i have not seen the latest ruu for 4.54 yet. i know that there is a ruu.exe file.

and yes once you have s-on and you are on stock you can accpet the ota. but the same will apply about ota's and if you plan on rooting later. never accept an ota. it will change your hboot(though the latest ota will not) and most likely you will not be able to root again.

Okay, thanks! I might have to unroot my brother's phone :( and I need to know this.

Im going to say yes u can because my daughters evo isnt rooted and has the latest updates to date. still hboot 2.16 BUT i dont recomend it because you never know what will be in the next update it could close the boot loader so revolutionary wont work no more.
