Zenithink ZT-180 1GHz 10" tablet

Has anyone tried doing the remote desktop? I wanted to do a vpn connection, but I've always had connection issues with it. If not, what file manager will allow me to view, play, read, and write in my share folders on my network?

I've used RDP client and VNC client successfully... typically over a hardware VPN to work... Most flash games are a nogo as only flash available is Flashlite (9) till we get 2.2 and they release a Flash 10.x for ARM11...

Was there anything special that you had to do, to connect? Also, was there an outside app that you used, or was it the android interface you used?

Sorry I didn't make myself clear, I was referring to the VPN connection. DAMN THIS ANDROID 1.6!!!! It work ONLY ONCE!!! and then it went dead. Even then, I want to be able to access the folders so I can access my files.

For VPN I have a Cisco 871 ISR (Hardware VPN) connected to work 24/7 so nothing special needed to get android to work past obtaining a wireless address from the router... I had gotten the Android 2.2 built-in vpn on my Droid to connect with Cisco equiptment at one point but only with pretty weak security if I remeber correctly... But as the ZT-180 id currently 2.1 Only and doesn't yet have 2.2 available that wouldn't help anyway...

Greetings all,

Thanks in advance for all the great information shared in this thread.

However I cannot find an answer to the following. I received my epad from androidtime.com (quick shipping BTW), everything is good except I cannot get the sdcard to mount. It just says "preparing udisk" and hangs there. everything else works, just I cannot download any apks, etc. because it cannot see the sdcard.

Any ideas?

BTW - I have tried a flash drive as well with same results.

Thanks again

Jim

@blkfin,

I looked at the one you purchased on that website and it seems to be the same, but I notice that the last time says 5 to 7 hours, have you tested that fact?

Jtbnet,

Just as quick it turned on, it turned off, now it wont work anymore..:(, Can you send me the settings that you used for our vpn connection? And how you was able to access your files

Sorry, I was just saying that I went to androidtime.com and looked at the same device you purchased, but I notice that they are saying its run time is 5 to 7 hours of use. I was just want to confirm that you was getting that out of the device

Only person I believe that is getting that much run time on these tablets is teslabe who documented the battery upgrade hack... stock my 5 yr. got 2.5 hrs. watching Clone Wars video recordings over the weekend till he got the 15% left early power warning message.

I'm going to ask a really stupid question just to get it out of my system. Besides the fact of a missing dialer, what keeps this tablet from actually dialing out like a phone? Knowing that you can get a 3G/2G connection from USB dongle. Also, what would it take install a dialer if possible?

I've gotten SIP clients to work EXCEPT that the microphone is not fully implemented thus not much use except for listening to voicemail...

What software did you use?

I have both the SIPDroid and the 3CX clients from market configured to use my GVoice account and Vonage Softphone line... I loosely followed instructions based on this writeup;

Free SIP Calling with Google Voice (sans Gizmo5) | Hijinks Inc.

And setup a free PBX.com account to give it a try and then added a $10/month Softphone Line to my existing Vonage account when I liked how it worked in my testing... of course until the mic. problem is fixed... Or better yet, Bluetooth Audio In/Out support for the ZT-180 then kind of out of luck using this tablet for it fully... but can get far enough to test setup... same runs great on my second Moto Droid 1 DevPhone that I have never had hooked up to a traditional Phone service...

Today I ordered a ZT-180 at androidtime.com and I am really looking forward to using the device. I have a question about tethering. I own a Symbian phone (Nokia N97) with an unlimited data plan. On my Ubuntu laptop I can just plugin my phone and Ubuntu recognizes it as a modem and I can connect to the internet straight away. Since Android is also based on Linux I figured tethering would also be possible with the ZT180. Can anybody enlighten me on this issue? Are there any apps that would enable me to tether or anything?

Hi, I'm looking at getting a Zenithink ZT-180 as well but would like to know if anyone has managed to use a 3G modem for wireless internet? My plan is while travelling being able to have net access but have read that getting wireless via 3g modem is almost impossible.

Can anyone confirm that it works?

Cheers :)

I to am trying to do the same thing. I tried to wifi tether with my DInc and my tablet didn't notice it. I had a friend with the moto droid with wifi hotspot and my tablet noticed his wifi connection. So, it's possible somehow. I just haven't been able to do it for free. My laptop noticed the wifi tether just not my tablet.

Somebody just pointed out to me an application called JoikuSpot for your cell. This should enable you to tether over wifi. Maybe you can give that a try? (And report back if it works ;) )

Hi!
I would like to know if tablets based on ZT-180 and Android 2.1 support several ebook format as PDFs, Mobi, ePub, etc.
Anybody knows if wi-fi works well in Latin America (Argentina)?

Thanks!
